McCreary County Airport (FAA LID: 18I) is a public airport located in unincorporated McCreary County, Kentucky, USA, 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the central business district (CBD) of Pine Knot. It is a very small, publicly owned public-use general aviation airport. The airport lies adjacent to United States Penitentiary, McCreary and has one unattended hangar containing several ultralight aircraft. Its elevation is 1370 MSL and it has one well-maintained asphalt runway, 4/22. In 2003, Senator Jim Bunning announced that federal funding was being extended to McCreary County Airport. Plans are in development to extend the runway and build additional hangar space.

The school recently underwent restructuring, which tiers class assignments of student around college readiness or EPAS benchmarks.

The community's post office was established as Strunks Lane on February 18, 1892, and was probably named for George W. Strunk, who owned a local coal mine. Revelo is an unincorporated community within McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. Originally a railroad siding for Southern Railway (US), the community was named for James Henry Oliver, an executive Vice President of Southern's Kentucky Division. Oliver was killed in a passenger train collision in 1918 in Danville, Virginia. "Revilo" is "Oliver" spelled backwards. The United States Postal Service changed it to the modern spelling in 1943.

The Stearns Administrative and Commercial District, located on Old U.S. Route 27 in Stearns, Kentucky, is a 4.3 acres (1.7 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It included six contributing buildings and one non-contributing building.The main element is the Stearns Company General Offices Building, "a two-and one-half story frame building that utilizes dormers, porches, and roof lines characteristic of the American Four Square House." The McCreary County Museum now uses the building.

The Stearns Golf Course, at 131 Clubhouse Dr. in Stearns, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.The nomination included 180 acres (73 ha) including the 49 acres (20 ha) golf course, a log clubhouse built in 1936, and a kidney-shaped in-ground pool. The clubhouse and pool were funded by the Works Progress Administration. It was located in a coal company town and the NRHP nomination described it as "'a very unusual place, as well as a significant one. It shows the lengths that some coal companies went to create a familiar experience in a very foreign place, importing a feature of urban leisure in a place of rural work.'"

It is the county seat of McCreary County. Whitley City is one of two unincorporated county seats in Kentucky (the other being Burlington in Boone County).

McCreary County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,888. Its county seat is Whitley City. The county is named for James B. McCreary, a Confederate war soldier and two-time Governor of Kentucky (1875–1879, 1911–1915). During his second term as governor, McCreary County was created by the Legislature and was named in his honor.
