Whistlefield, Argyll

The Whistlefield Inn is a Category C listed building in Whistlefield, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, about twelve miles northwest of Dunoon. Built in 1663, it was originally a drover's inn on the route between Strachur and Ardentinny. It sits about 1,300 feet (400 m) from the eastern shores of Loch Eck. Today, it is an inn and restaurant. The business came under new management in September 2018.

The River Cur is a river in the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, western Scotland. The position of its source is uncertain, as it is formed from a large number of small burns; for example, one of these rises on the slopes of Cruach nam Mult, at grid reference NN165056 and an elevation of about 2,000 feet (600 m). The river flows south-west until it reaches the head of a glacial valley near Strachur, Loch Fyne. (For a short distance it forms the boundary of the Argyll Forest Park, which it soon enters.) The river does not enter Loch Fyne, but instead turns south-east. At that point it has reached an elevation of only about 160 feet (50 m), and it continues along the valley, losing altitude much more slowly, until it reaches the head of Loch Eck. Before reaching Loch Eck, it passes near the tiny settlements of Balliemore and Invernoaden and Glenbranter.

Coylet is a hamlet on Loch Eck, Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, in West Scotland.The hamlet is within the Argyll Forest Park, which is itself within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. It developed around the Coylet Inn, a coaching inn on the A815 road that leads to Dunoon, the main town on the peninsula. The name may be derived from Gaelic caol ait, "narrow place".

Beinn Bheula is a mountain located between Loch Goil and Loch Eck. It is part of the Arrochar Alps range. Beinn Bheula appears rugged from Lochgoilhead, with several summits, the highest of which is Caisteal Dubh (Gaelic for black castle). It is commonly climbed from Loch Goil

Beinn Ruadh (664 m) is a mountain of Argyll and Bute in Scotland. Part of the Grampian Mountains, it lies between Loch Eck and Loch Long in Argyll Forest Park. A large and sprawling peak, its lower slopes are covered in forestry plantations. The nearest town is Dunoon a few miles to the south.

Glenbranter; is a hamlet and former estate once owned by Sir Harry Lauder, on the northwest shore of Loch Eck in the Argyll Forest Park, on the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute in the West of Scotland.

Beinn Lochain is one of the Arrochar Alps at 703 metres (2,306 ft), in the Argyll Highlands. The mountain is situated to the west of Lochgoilhead. It continues the rugged and wild feel of the local area as it sits next to its higher neighbour Beinn Bheula which reaches a height of over 2,500 feet.

Benmore Botanic Garden (formerly known as the Younger Botanic Garden) is a large botanical garden situated in Strath Eachaig at the foot of Beinn Mhòr, on the Cowal peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The gardens are on the west side of the A815 road from Dunoon, between the Holy Loch and Loch Eck, and include footbridges across the River Eachaig. It is one of the sites of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Features include a Redwood Avenue of Giant Sequoias planted in 1863, large square walled gardens, a waterfall, a fernery, ponds and walks up the hillside to viewpoints over the Holy Loch. The garden is located within the Argyll Forest Park, which forms part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Glen Finart (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Fhionnaird) is a glacially formed glen on the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The glen is within the Argyll Forest Park, which is itself within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.Glen Finart runs northwest, from Finart Bay and Ardentinny on the west shore of Loch Long, following the Finart Burn.Glenfinart House, a Grade B listed house, was destroyed by a fire in the 1960s; the only remaining part of the house is the tower.

Cruach nam Miseag is a mountain near Lochgoilhead within the Arrochar Alps, Scotland. It reaches a height of 606 m (1989 ft). It is located at NS182981.

Carrick Castle is a village on the western shore of Loch Goil, 7 km south of Lochgoilhead by a minor road along the loch shore, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is within the Argyll Forest Park, and also within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. In 1877 a wooden pier was built at the castle, and a three-storey tenement building called Hillside Place was constructed inland from the castle, to provide apartments for visiting tourists. This was followed by several villas built along the shore road as accommodation for Glasgow merchants, developing what became a small village.The village church is listed on the buildings at risk register of Scotland. There is a path to Ardentinny from Carrick Castle village.

Puck's Glen is a river-formed ravine on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, with a popular scenic walking trail beside the Eas Mòr stream (Gaelic for "big waterfall"). In 2020 the glen and adjoining trails were closed temporarily due to COVID-19 restrictions, issues of stability of the gorge, and felling of trees infected by larch disease.It comes under Forestry and Land Scotland which has highlighted it as a feature of the Argyll Forest Park (itself within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park), and described it as "One of the most magical forests in Scotland, with a delightful trail along a rocky gorge."The stream tumbles down a series of waterfalls and rapids, joining the River Eachaig about 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) south of the entrance to the Benmore Botanic Garden. A car park off the A815 road (about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Dunoon on the road to Loch Eck) gives access by a track to the foot of the glen path, as well as forest paths giving an alternative route to the top of the glen.
