In England, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are designated by Natural England, which is responsible for protecting England's natural environment. Designation as an SSSI gives legal protection to the most important wildlife and geological sites.Berkshire lies in the valleys of the Thames and its tributary, the River Kennet, and in the west it is crossed by chalk hills. It has a population of more than 860,000. It is no longer an administrative county following the abolition of Berkshire County Council in 1998. It is governed by six unitary authorities: Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead and Wokingham.As of September 2019, there are 70 SSSIs in Berkshire, of which 8 are listed for their geological interest and 62 for their biological interest. Eight are Geological Conservation Review sites, three are Nature Conservation Review sites, two are Ramsar sites, five are Special Areas of Conservation, five are Special Protection Areas, five are Local nature reserves, one is listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and two contain Scheduled monuments. Fifteen sites are managed by Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust, one by Surrey Wildlife Trust and three by the National Trust.

Local nature reserves (LNRs) in England are designated by local authorities under Section 21 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. LNRs are sites which have a special local interest either biologically or geologically. Local authorities have a duty to care for them, and must control the sites by owning or leasing them, or by having an agreement with the owners. The local authorities can apply local byelaws to manage and protect LNRs.As of January 2020, there are forty-one LNRs in Berkshire. Five are also Sites of Special Scientific Interest, two are Special Areas of Conservation and four are managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. Pingewood is a hamlet in the civil parish of Burghfield, to the south of Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. It lies to the Southwest of Burghfield Bridge The name Pingewood derives from the old Celtic word 'pen' meaning head, peak, tip or end. The 'ge' is a contraction of the Celtic word for wood, 'coed'. When the Saxons moved into the area in the 5th century, they did not understand the meaning and added their own descriptive word 'wood' on the end.

The Teg is a small stream in southern England, in the county of Berkshire. It rises in Burghfield Common and flows northwards and then eastwards to join Burghfield Brook, a tributary of Foudry Brook.

Reading Green Park railway station is a railway station under construction in Reading, Berkshire, England. The station is intended to serve the Green Park business area and the Madejski Stadium, as well as the proposed Green Park Village residential development. It will be on the Reading to Basingstoke Line, south of Southcote Junction. The station, which has planning permission from Reading Borough Council and funding in place from the Government, was set to open in late 2020 but its completion was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Although it was subsequently planned to open the station during the summer of 2022, it is currently scheduled to open in early 2023.The station will be served by stopping services operated by Great Western Railway between Reading and Basingstoke, with an expected frequency of two trains per hour in each direction. The station will have two 5-car long canopied platforms, which will be connected by a 15-metre (49 ft) bridge, with lifts and stairs at each end. The station will have an interchange with the existing Green Park Park and Ride bus system, together with a taxi rank, surface level car park and cycle parking.

Green Park Village is a housing development in Green Park, Reading, Berkshire. It is close to the Reading Green Park railway station and Green Park business park. The initial phases are now complete and occupied, and when fully complete the new suburb is expected to contain more than 1,300 new homes, including both apartments and "New-England" style houses. The development will surround South Lake, with a noticeably higher density on the west (railway station) side as compared to the earlier eastern side.Facilities in the village include a school, Green Park Village Primary Academy, and a lake side café, Triple Two Coffee, at the south end of South Lake. Immediately adjacent to the station is the residents club and a Tesco Express supermarket.Green Park Village lies entirely within the borough of Reading, within Whitley ward. It is within the Reading West parliamentary constituency.

Green Park is a recently developed suburb of the town of Reading in the English county of Berkshire. Initially conceived as a business park, it now also encompasses a residential development of more than 1,300 new homes, including apartment blocks and "New-England" style houses. There are also shops, restaurants, a school and a new railway station. The Madejski Stadium, home of Reading Football Club, adjoins Green Park to the east. Green Park is bounded by the M4 motorway to the south, the Madejski Stadium and the A33 road to the east, the floodplain of the River Kennet to the north, and the Reading to Basingstoke railway line to the west. From a local government perspective it is largely located within the borough of Reading, but parts lie within the civil parish of Shinfield, in the borough of Wokingham, and the civil parish of Burghfield, in West Berkshire. However the residential components are all within Whitley ward of the borough of Reading.

Southcote Lock is a lock on the River Kennet at Southcote near the town of Reading in Berkshire, England. It has a rise/fall of 5 feet 3 inches (1.60 m).

The Madejski Stadium (currently known as the Select Car Leasing Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium in Reading. It is the home of Reading Football Club, who play in the EFL Championship. It also provides the finish for the Reading Half Marathon. It is an all-seater bowl stadium with a capacity of 24,161 and is located close to the M4 motorway. The West Stand contains the voco Reading Hotel, formerly known as the Millennium Madejski Hotel. The stadium was opened on 22 August 1998 and replaced Elm Park as Reading's home ground.

Fobney Lock is a lock on the River Kennet in the Small Mead area of Reading in the English county of Berkshire. Between the lock cut for the lock and the river itself is Fobney Island, which is a nature reserve.Fobney Lock was built between 1718 and 1723 under the supervision of the engineer John Hore of Newbury, and this stretch of the river is now administered by Canal & River Trust and known as the Kennet Navigation. It has a rise/fall of 7 ft 8 in (2.24 m).Fobney Island was transformed into a nature reserve in 2013, with the creation of wetland, a hay meadow and reed beds. It was intended that the resulting habitats would attract wildlife, including birds, bats, water voles, and otters.

Reading Stadium also known as Smallmead Stadium was an English greyhound racing and speedway stadium in Bennet Road, Reading in the county of Berkshire. It is not to be confused with Reading Stadium on the Oxford Road that closed in 1974 and was located further to the north of Reading.
