Lion Island is a river island that is located at the mouth to the Hawkesbury River inside Broken Bay, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The island is considered part of the Central Coast Council. It is a descriptive name because it resembles a Sphinx, a mythical figure of a crouching lion.

Umina Beach is a suburb within the Central Coast Council local government area on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. By road, it is 85 kilometres (53 mi) north of the Sydney CBD and 111 kilometres (69 mi) south of the Newcastle CBD. Umina Beach is locally known on the Central Coast as being on 'The Peninsula' (or 'Woy Woy Peninsula'). A natural peninsula that includes the towns of Umina Beach, Woy Woy, Blackwall, Booker Bay and Ettalong Beach. The main street, West Street, is the retail centre of The Peninsula with key national brands represented through Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Bunnings. Moving from north to south, Umina Beach begins where Woy Woy and Blackwall end: at Veron Road and Gallipoli Avenue. Umina Beach is the most populated suburb on the Central Coast.

The Hawkesbury River, or Hawkesbury-Nepean River, is a river located northwest of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Hawkesbury River and its associated main tributary, the Nepean River, almost encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney. The Hawkesbury River has its origin at the confluence of the Nepean River and the Grose River, to the north of Penrith and travels for approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) in a north–easterly and then a south–easterly direction to its mouth at Broken Bay, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the Tasman Sea. The Hawkesbury River is the main tributary of Broken Bay. Secondary tributaries include Brisbane Water and Pittwater, which, together with the Hawkesbury River, flow into Broken Bay and thence into the Tasman Sea north of Barrenjoey Head. The total catchment area of the river is approximately 21,624 square kilometres (8,349 sq mi) and the area is generally administered by the Hawkesbury–Nepean Catchment Management Authority. The land adjacent to the Hawkesbury River was occupied by Aboriginal peoples: the Darkinjung, Darug, Eora, and Kuringgai. They used the river as a source of food and a place for trade. In the languages of the traditional custodians the river is Deerubben or Dyarubbin.In March 2021, the river level rose, and many areas were flooded as part of the March 2021 Australian floods.

Broken Bay, a semi-mature tide-dominated drowned valley estuary, is a large inlet of the Tasman Sea located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Sydney central business district on the coast of New South Wales, Australia; being one of the bodies of water that separate greater Metropolitan Sydney from the Central Coast. Broken Bay is the first major bay north of Sydney Harbour. Broken Bay has its origin at the confluence of the Hawkesbury River, Pittwater, and Brisbane Water and flows openly into the Tasman Sea. The total surface area of the bay is approximately 17.1 square kilometres (6.6 sq mi).

Brisbane Water is a wave-dominated barrier estuary located in the Central Coast region, north of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Brisbane Water has its origin at the confluence of the Narara and Coorumbine Creeks, to the south–east of Gosford and travels for approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) in a southerly direction to its mouth at Broken Bay, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from the Tasman Sea, at Barrenjoey Head. A number of towns and suburbs surround the shores of Brisbane Water, including Blackwall, Booker Bay, Davistown, Empire Bay, Erina, Ettalong Beach, Gosford, Green Point, Hardys Bay, Kilcare, Kincumber, Koolewong, Phegans Bay, Point Frederick, Point Clare , Saratoga, Tascott, Wagstaffe, and Woy Woy. Contained within Brisbane Water is St Huberts Island, Rileys Island, Dunmar Island and Pelican Island; and adjoining the estuary is Brisbane Water National Park to the west and Bouddi National Park to the east. Forming part of the same tidal estuary system is a separate but connected basin, the Kincumber Broadwater, lying to the east of Davistown. The total catchment area of the river is approximately 165 square kilometres (64 sq mi). The land adjacent to the Brisbane Water was occupied for many thousands of years by Australian Aboriginal peoples, the Darkinjung and Kuringgai, who used the estuary and foreshore areas for cultural purposes.Brisbane Water was named in 1825 in honour of Sir Thomas Brisbane, a Governor of New South Wales, serving between 1820 and 1825.

Brisbane Water Secondary College is a dual-campus government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The College's Middle School campus is located in Umina Beach, catering for students from Year 7 to Year 9; and the College's Senior Campus is located in Woy Woy, catering from students from Year 10 to Year 12. Established in 2001, the College catered for approximately 1,500 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom ten percent identified as Indigenous Australians and ten percent were from a language background other than English. The College is operated by the New South Wales Department of Education; and the College principal is Paul Gilmore.

Ettalong Beach is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia south of Woy Woy on Brisbane Water at the point where it meets Broken Bay, about 80 km north of Sydney. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. Ettalong Beach is the natural eastward continuation of Umina Beach and Ocean Beach. The village is serviced by a small retail centre along Ocean View Road. The Mantra Ettalong Beach Resort (formerly operated by Outrigger) and Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club was completed in 2005.The Atlantis residential development on the corner of Memorial Avenue and The Esplanade was completed in 2018 and marks a new benchmark for mixed use development in the village centre. Rotary Brisbane Water is based in Ettalong. One of the Central Coast's largest service clubs, members meet fortnightly at Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club.

Pittwater is a semi-mature tide dominated drowned valley estuary, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of the Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia; being one of the bodies of water that separate greater Metropolitan Sydney from the Central Coast. Pittwater has its origin from the confluence of McCarrs Creek, to the west of Church Point and a number of smaller estuaries, the largest of which is Cahill Creek, that joins the Pittwater north of Mona Vale. The Pittwater is an open body of water, often considered a bay or harbour, that flows north towards its mouth into Broken Bay, between West Head and Barrenjoey Head, less than 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from the Tasman Sea. The total area of the Pittwater is 18.4 square kilometres (7.1 sq mi) and around ninety percent of the area is generally administered by the Hawkesbury–Nepean Catchment Management Authority, in conjunction with Northern Beaches Council. The land adjacent to the Pittwater was occupied for many thousands of years by the Kuringgai peoples, an Aboriginal Australian grouping of uncertain origin. They used the river as an important source of food and a place for trade.Pittwater was named Pitt Water in 1788 in honour of William Pitt the Younger, the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Wagstaffe is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. It was named after Captain Wagstaffe, one of the first settlers in the area. It has a general store, which is also the local post office. It is a thin slither of around 200 houses between the bay and the bush(Bouddi National Park). Historically it was also known as Wagstaffe Point. In aboriginal dialect the point is called Kourang Gourang. A ferry service operates between Wagstaffe and Palm Beach(via Ettalong). Travel time is 30 minutes.

Woy Woy Aerodrome was an aerodrome constructed in 1942 as a dispersal ground and landing ground for the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy at Woy Woy, New South Wales. The airfield was built as a satellite of RAAF Station Schofields. The airfield ran north to south next to what is Trafalgar Avenue, Woy Woy and was constructed from compacted red gravel used as the runway surface. The red gravel can still be seen along the edge of the road surface. The hangars and service area were located in what is now Alma Avenue, Woy Woy. The hangars are still in existence and are utilised as warehouses or industrial buildings. The airfield was last used in 1946, the land subsequently developed for residential occupation. An anti-aircraft battery protected the airfield which was located in Blackwall Mountain Reserve.

Hazard was an Australian sloop wrecked in 1809. Hazard was of unknown tonnage, probably built in Sydney in 1800. It was owned by Thorley & Griffiths and had been chartered to Lusk.In March 1809, three ships, Argument, Experiment, and Hazard left Pittwater, New South Wales, bound for Sydney with a cargo of wheat. A squall arose and Hazard was driven onto Box Head, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Barrenjoey, New South Wales. Her master, Andrew Lusk, got into the ship's boat but was unable to persuade his single crew member, a boy, to join him. The boy was washed overboard and was dragged from the surf by some Aborigines. Lusk attempted to make it to shore but the boat capsized and Lusk drowned.

Patonga is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located on the north bank of the Hawkesbury River, southwest of Woy Woy. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area.
