Wełnowiec-Józefowiec (German: Hohenlohehütte-Josephsdorf) is a district of Katowice. It has an area of 3.15 km2 and in 2007 had 15.924 inhabitants.The district consists of two historical settlements: Wełnowiec (German: Hohenlohehütte), first mentioned in the 17th century, initially a hamlet of Bogucice; before 1922 also known as Hohenlohehütte, after a local steel mill; Józefowiec (German: Josephsdorf), established in 1826 by rev. Józef Beder, a Catholic priest from Chorzów;

Koszutka (German: Kossutka) is a district of Katowice. It has an area of 1.38 km2 and in 2007 had 12,431 inhabitants.

Katowice (UK: KAT-ə-VEET-sə, US: KAHT-, Polish: [katɔˈvitsɛ] (listen); Silesian: Katowicy; German: Kattowitz; Yiddish: קאַטעוויץ, romanized: Kattevitz) is the capital city of the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland and the central city of the Upper Silesian metropolitan area. It is the 11th most populous city in Poland, while its urban area is the most populous in the country and one of the most populous in the European Union. Katowice has a population of 286,960 according to a 31 December 2021 estimate. Katowice is a central part of the Metropolis GZM, with a population of 2.3 million, and a part of a larger Upper Silesian metropolitan area that extends into the Czech Republic and has a population of 5-5.3 million people.Throughout the mid-18th century, Katowice developed into a village following the discovery of rich coal reserves in the area. In the first half of the 19th century, intensive industrialization transformed local mills and farms into industrial steelworks, mines, foundries and artisan workshops. The city has since reshaped its economy from a heavy industry-based one to professional services, education and healthcare. The entire metropolitan area is the 16th most economically powerful city by GDP in the European Union with an output amounting to $114.5 billion. Katowice has been classified as a Gamma - global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network and is a centre of commerce, business, transportation, and culture in southern Poland, with numerous public companies headquartered in the city or in its suburbs including energy group Tauron and metal industry corporation Fasing, important cultural institutions such as Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, award-winning music festivals such as Off Festival and Tauron New Music, and transportation infrastructure such as Katowice Korfanty Airport. It also hosts the finals of Intel Extreme Masters, an Esports video game tournament. Katowice is also home to several institutions of higher learning, notably the University of Silesia, the Silesian University of Technology and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music.

Stadion GKS Katowice is a football stadium at Silesian Culture and Recreation Park in Chorzów (just at the border with Katowice), Poland. It is the home ground of GKS Katowice. The stadium also hosted three matches of Poland national football team. Venue holds 6,710 people and was built in 1955. There is a planned full reconstruction of a stadium that will take place in near future.

Spodek (meaning "saucer" in Polish) is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened on 9 May 1971. Aside from the main dome, the complex includes a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and three large car parks. It was the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland until it was surpassed by Tauron Arena in 2014. The Spodek hosts many important cultural and business events. Music concerts are especially common non-sport events. It can hold around 11,500 people, although this number is in practice limited to 10,000 or even 8,000 due to stage set-ups obscuring the view. Its Polish name refers to a flying saucer since its iconic shape resembles a UFO. Spodek is a major contribution to the cultural significance of Katowice in Poland, especially for the younger generations. It has also been used as an unofficial logo for the city on posters promoting redevelopment in Katowice. Moreover, Spodek is home to ice hockey clubs in the winter months.

Bytków TV Tower is a 110 metre tall RadioTV tower in Siemianowice Śląskie, Poland, on the border with Bytków, an urban part of Katowice. Bytków TV Tower, situated at 50°17′45″N 19°00′31″E, has a unique design: it consists of a reinforced concrete tower as its base, with the appearance of a thin high-rise building with a square cross section. On the top of this concrete tower, there is a horizontal steel cross turned at an angle of 45 degree to the sides of the concrete tower. At the ends of the crossarms, which are equipped with gangways, the antenna mast on its top is guyed. Bytków TV Tower is operated by company Emitel SA, is not accessible for visitors and is used for directional radio services, FM- and TV-transmissions. It started broadcasting in 1957.

Silesia City Center is a shopping mall in Katowice, Silesia, Poland. It was opened in 2005 as the first modern shopping mall in Katowice. In 2015 it has been described as the "largest shopping mall in the Silesia region".Its total area covers a few thousand square metres, of which 650 000 sq metres is a trade zone, 100 000 sq metres is a housing estate and 600 000 sq metres is an office site. It is situated in Katowice along 107 Chorzowska Road (the land previously belonged to the coal mine KWK Gottwald). The edifice was opened 18 November 2005. An investor is Hungarian company - TriGranit Development Corporation.

The Rondo Generała Jerzego Ziętka in Katowice is the roundabout in the centre of the city, in the Silesian Voivodship in southern Poland. On that main traffic circle, the Aleja Korfantego and the road 79, part of the Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa, meet. To allow an easy passage through the Katowice city centre for road 79, two tunnels of 657 and 650 metres have been built. There are ramps leading to the roundabout, which are the exit for the city centre. Also, a new bus and tram station, fully equipped for handling disabled people, has been built. The traffic circle, dedicated to general Jerzy Ziętek, has three levels. At -1 level, the tunnel is located, on the ground floor there are various business offices, and on the +1 level the Katowice Museum of Fine Arts and an information centre about the city are present. A glass cupola tops it all. General Jerzy Ziętek, namegiver of the Rondo, and Wojciech Korfanty, namegiver of one of the streets that crosses it, were named as the two most important Silesian persons in the 20th century by the Gazeta Wyborcza, with Korfanty coming in first and Ziętek second.

On 28 January 2006, the roof of one of the buildings at the Katowice International Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Katowickie) collapsed in Chorzów / Katowice, Poland. At 16:15 GMT (17:15 local time), the central section of the roof of the hall collapsed, possibly due to the weight of snow on the building. According to the police there were roughly 700 people in the hall at the time of the collapse. A further collapse occurred 90 minutes later during rescue operations. Polish government spokesman Krzysztof Mejer confirmed that there had been 65 dead as well as more than 170 injured, including 13 foreigners. There are confirmed deaths of ten foreign tourists – one from Belgium, one from Germany, three from Slovakia, one from the Netherlands, one from Hungary and three from the Czech Republic. The trade hall was hosting the 56th National Exhibition of Carrier Pigeons, with over 120 exhibitors from all over Europe. Poland was at that time experiencing very cold weather with heavy snow. This meant that the rescue operation was undertaken in sub-zero temperatures, putting the survivors inside the building at risk of exposure.

Katowice International Fair (Polish: Międzynarodowe Targi Katowickie, MTK) was an international trade fair in Katowice and one of the largest in Poland (the largest being the Poznań International Fair). A few dozen events were organized there each year, with the participation of some 4,500 companies.

The Stalexport skyscrapers are twin skyscrapers (Tower A and Tower B) located in Katowice, Silesia, Poland. The buildings share a three-story base. They were designed by Yugoslavian architect Georg Gruićić in the late 1970s and finished in 1981 and 1982, respectively.When built, they were the tallest buildings in Poland, outside the capital, Warsaw. They were designed to accommodate 1800 people. The towers were originally used by the Centre for Foreign Trade.The total floor area is 27,183 m². The buildings are primarily used for office space, and are home to a number of international corporations and financial institution and contain over 700 offices. They are also known for their unique, modern design, which features sharp angles and a facade of steel, glass, and granite. At the time of constitution these buildings were the tallest buildings in Poland.

The Silesian Insurgents' Monument (Polish: Pomnik Powstańców Śląskich) in Katowice, southern Poland, is a monument to those who took part in the three Silesian Uprisings of 1919, 1920 and 1921, which aimed to make the region of Upper Silesia part of the newly independent Polish state. The monument was unveiled on 1 September 1967, and was designed by sculptor Gustaw Zemła and architect Wojciech Zabłocki. The wings symbolize the three uprisings, and the names of places where battles were fought are etched on the vertical slopes. The monument was funded by the people of Warsaw for Upper Silesia.
