Sainte-Martine is a municipality in Beauharnois-Salaberry Regional County Municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 5,461. The municipality is made up of a large northern section and a small unattached southern area that was known as the municipality of Saint-Paul-de-Châteauguay until its merger with Sainte-Martine on September 9, 1999.

The English River (French: rivière des Anglais in Canada) is a tributary of the Chateauguay River. This cross-border river between Canada and the United States crosses: Clinton County, in New York State, United States; Les Jardins-de-Napierville Regional County Municipality, including Hemmingford in Montérégie, in Quebec, Canada; Le Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality, including the municipalities of Havelock, Saint-Chrysostome and Très-Saint-Sacrement, in Montérégie. In the state of New York, the English River course is mainly served by Drown Road, White Road (east-west direction), Davison Road (east-west direction) and Blackman Corners Road (CR 16) (north direction -South). In Canada, the course of the English River is mainly served mainly by the route 203 (chemin du rang du Moulin, chemin du rang Sainte-Anne). The river surface is generally frozen from mid-December to the end of March. Safe circulation on the ice is generally done from the end of December to the beginning of March. The water level of the river varies with the seasons and the precipitation.

The Battle of Baker's Farm took place in Lower Canada on November 8, 1838, during the Patriot's War. It was the first and last military success of the Patriotes in the campaign of 1838. Eight hundred Patriotes gathered on a farm near Sainte-Martine, Quebec and fought off several attacks by Loyalist volunteers. After news of the defeat of Patriotes forces at the Battle of Odelltown spread, the massed Patriotes dispersed before the arrival of British troops.

Châteauguay HVDC-back-to-back station is the largest high-voltage direct current (HVDC) back-to-back converter station in North America. Situated near Châteauguay, on the South Shore of Montreal, Quebec, it is an important plant for power exchange between Hydro-Québec and New York Power Authority (NYPA).

Howick is the third smallest municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in Le Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 850. Situated along the English River in the heart of the Châteauguay Valley, it is approximately 50 minutes southwest of Montreal and 20 minutes north of the Canada–United States border.

Très-Saint-Sacrement is a parish municipality located along the Châteauguay River in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 1,189. Established in 1885, the municipality completely encloses the village of Howick, which was incorporated as a separate entity in 1915.

Saint-Urbain-Premier is a municipality located southwest of Montreal in Beauharnois-Salaberry, in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 1,332.

Maple Grove is a district (secteur) of the city of Beauharnois, Quebec, which is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in the Montérégie region.

Route 236 is a two-lane east/west highway on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. Its western terminus is in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka at the junction of Route 132 and the eastern terminus is at the junction of Route 132 again, in Beauharnois. Up until the 1980s, Route 236 also used to extend further west, with an additional stretch between Sainte-Barbe and the hamlet of Cazaville, part of Saint-Anicet.

The Battle of Beauharnois was fought on November 10, 1838, between Lower Canada loyalists and Patriote rebels, after 500 armed men had converged on Beauharnois, on November 3–4, overtaking the seigneurial manor.The seigneury of Beauharnois belonged to the Ellice family, having, in 1796, purchased it from Michel Chartier de Lotbinière, Marquis de Lotbinière. Edward Ellice, private secretary to John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, had then been in residence for several months. He, and, separately, his wife, Lady Jane Ellice, and her sister, Eglantine "Tina" Balfour, later Ellice, were taken prisoner, along with a number of others. Ellice's watercolours, sketches and diary survived, and record that they were unharmed.The town rose up, following a series of raids by rebel leaders who had escaped into the United States. François-Marie-Thomas Chevalier de Lorimier commanded the ranks of the Patriote rebels. The British were victorious, and 108 rebels were captured and tried in Montreal. 58 of the Patriote rebels were deported to Australia, while Lorimier was hanged.British forces burned much of the area as a reprisal for the rebels’ actions.

Beauharnois () is a city located in the Beauharnois-Salaberry Regional County Municipality of southwestern Quebec, Canada, and is part of the Greater Montreal Area. The city's population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 12,011. It is home to the Beauharnois Hydroelectric Power Station, as well as the Beauharnois Lock of the Saint Lawrence Seaway.

The La Guerre River is a tributary of the south shore of lake Saint-François which is crossed to the east by the Saint Lawrence river. This river flows through the municipalities of Sainte-Barbe (MRC Beauharnois-Salaberry) and Saint-Anicet, in the Le Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Montérégie, in Quebec, in Canada.
