Dandenong South, Victoria

South-Eastern Metropolitan Region is one of the eight electoral regions of Victoria, Australia, which elects five members to the Victorian Legislative Council (also referred to as the upper house) by proportional representation. The region was created in 2006 following the 2005 reform of the Victorian Legislative Council. The region covers the outer south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and comprises the Legislative Assembly districts of Berwick, Carrum, Clarinda, Cranbourne, Dandenong, Frankston, Mordialloc, Mulgrave, Narre Warren North, Narre Warren South and Rowville.

The EastLink hotel is a sculpture designed by Callum Morton. It was unveiled on 27 November 2007 and cost A$1.2 million to construct. It is situated along EastLink, a toll road located in Victoria, Australia.

The Dandenong rolling stock factory in South Dandenong, Melbourne, Australia, was opened in 1954 by Commonwealth Engineering. It has since been operated in succession by ABB, Adtranz and Bombardier and Alstom.

Lyndhurst is a former railway station on the South Gippsland (now Cranbourne) line. In 1979, it had a single platform on the east side of the track, and a loop siding.The station was served by passenger trains to Leongatha and Yarram until their withdrawal in June 1981, and then by Dandenong to Lang Lang railmotors until their withdrawal in October 1981. Although passenger trains between Melbourne and Leongatha were restored between 1984 and 1993, Lyndhurst station was not re-opened. The platform has been demolished. In the 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan, a new passenger line was proposed linking Frankston and Lyndhurst. Cement traffic from Waurn Ponds near Geelong, to a siding serving a concrete batching plant operated by Boral, ended in 2009, after Pacific National increased the costs charged to Blue Circle Southern. The siding and the silo were removed in 2021 to make way for the duplication of the Cranbourne line.

Lyndhurst is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 36 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Casey and Greater Dandenong local government areas. Lyndhurst recorded a population of 8,926 at the 2021 census.Lyndhurst Post Office opened on 1 January 1867 and closed in 1976.After the Bracks government's decisions to abandon plans for a toxic waste dump near Mildura, the continued use of the existing Lyndhurst facility was part of the replacement plan.The Casey side of Lyndhurst lies inside the Urban Growth Boundary, and the development phase is almost complete. The Greater Dandenong side (to the west of the Western Port Highway) is outside the Urban Growth Boundary and is semi rural, and forms part of the South Eastern green wedge. In 2009 the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development purchased a 3.5-hectare site within Marriott Waters and earmarked the site for Lyndhurst Primary School. The Prep to Year 6 primary school opened in 2011 and was built under the Partnerships Victoria in Schools Model which has seen the school built and maintained through public–private partnership arrangements between the Victorian state government and Axiom Education.Lyndhurst railway station was located in the suburb on the Cranbourne line, but did not see any passenger traffic. Freight traffic to the cement facility ended in 2009. Passenger rail in the area is now serviced by Lynbrook or Merinda Park stations.

Shepley Oval is a football and cricket field located in Dandenong in south-eastern Melbourne. It presently serves as the home ground of the Dandenong Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition, and of the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup football competition. Shepley Oval is located at the eastern end of Dandenong Park, immediately north of the Dandenong Creek. The parkland was used for sports in the late 19th century, but throughout the early half of the 20th century until the 1960s, the premier venue for sports in Dandenong was the Dandenong Showgrounds (which at that time was located in Clow Street, the site presently occupied by the Dandenong Municipal Offices). Shepley Oval was developed to a top standard oval in the late 1950s, with a grandstand being opened in 1959, and it has been the region's premier sports venue since the 1960s.The venue's most historically notable football tenant is the Dandenong Football Club. Dandenong, which was then playing in the Victorian Football Association, moved its home ground from the Showgrounds to Shepley Oval in 1962, and played its games there until it folded at the end of the 1994 season. In 1995, the Southern Stingrays in Victoria's premier under-18s football competition, the TAC Cup, moved its home ground from Kavanagh Reserve, Mordialloc to Shepley Oval; the club has been since known as the Dandenong Stingrays, remains based at the ground in 2014 and is now the main football tenant of the oval. Another notable football tenant of the ground was the Victorian Football League's Springvale Football Club, which played many of its games at the ground between 2000 and 2005, after it had left the Newcomen Rd Oval but before it moved to Casey Fields.In the early 1960s, around the same time as the Dandenong Football Club moved to Shepley Oval, the Dandenong Sub-District Cricket Club was formed, and began playing its games at Shepley Oval during the summer. Top level district cricket first came to the venue in 1989, when the Waverley Cricket Club merged with Dandenong; the merged club, originally known as Waverley-Dandenong but now known as the Dandenong Cricket Club, has played its first XI and second XI cricket at Shepley Oval since; Wilson Oval, which is adjacent to Shepley Oval in Dandenong Park, serves as the third and fourth XI home ground.The venue is named after former Dandenong Cricket Association secretary and president Harry Shepley. The oval has two main buildings: the Frank Storan Grandstand, named after the Dandenong cricket personality whose fundraising efforts facilitated its construction; and the Keith Miller Pavilion, named after the former Dandenong mayor, footballer and cricketer Keith Esmond Miller – not after former Australian Test cricketer and VFL footballer Keith Ross Miller, who was a much better known sportsman from Melbourne, but had no association with sport in Dandenong. The Keith Miller Pavilion underwent a $1.25 million re-development in 2014 to improve its training facilities. The ornate western gates were originally built at the Springvale Crematorium and were moved to Shepley Oval later.

General Motors is a disused railway station on the Gippsland line in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was previously served by Pakenham line commuter rail services, as part of the suburban rail system. It is located between Dandenong and Hallam stations, in the suburb of Dandenong South.

The Bend Road archaeological site is an open site in Melbourne, Australia. It was discovered during survey and archaeological testing for the proposed Scoresby Freeway, which became the EastLink Freeway. The site is located in two separate areas on either side of Bend Road, Dandenong South (Bend Road 1 to the north, Bend Road 2 to the south) where the freeway now intersects the former road, and originally covered about 12 hectares.

The Albanian Mosque (Albanian: Xhamija Shqiptare Dandenong Këshavë), also known as the Albanian Islamic Centre Mosque and Albanian Sakie Islamic Centre, is a mosque located in Dandenong, a south eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is one of the earliest mosques in the country.The mosque is a large building, built next to Dandenong Creek and residential neighbourhood, with a minaret, and community facilities. Associated with the Albanian Australian community, the mosque is owned by and the centre of the Albanian Sakie Islamic Society of Dandenong.

The Dandenong Creek (Aboriginal Bunwurrung: Narra Narrawong or Dandinnong) is an urban creek of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the eastern and south-eastern Greater Melbourne region of the Australian east coast state of Victoria. The creek descends approximately 550 metres (1,800 ft) over its course of 53 kilometres (33 mi) before joining the Eumemmerring Creek to form the Patterson River (of which it can be considered the de facto main stem) and eventually draining into the Beaumaris Bay. The first European to see the creek near its source was in 1839 and is believed to be Daniel Bunce, a botanist.

Dandenong railway station is the junction for the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of the same name, and opened on 8 October 1877.A number of train stabling sidings are located near the station, including to the north of the station on either side of the railway line, as well as parallel to the platforms. A little-used goods yard was once located to the south of the station.The disused General Motors station was situated between Dandenong and Hallam.

Lynbrook is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 36 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Casey local government area. Lynbrook recorded a population of 9,121 at the 2021 census.Lynbrook is positioned on the South Gippsland Highway, slightly north-west of Cranbourne, and just south of the residential suburb of Hampton Park. Lynbrook is bounded by Dandenong Hastings Road in the west, the South Gippsland Freeway in the north, by a line north of Merinda Park railway station in the east, and the railway line in the south.The suburb was developed by VicUrban, starting in 1994. A special feature of the VicUrban development is the stormwater catchment which flows into the lake and wetlands where it is purified before being released into Dandenong Creek and into Port Phillip Bay. Prior to 1994, the area now occupied by Lynbrook was part of Lyndhurst. There are two primary schools, one State and one Catholic. There is a central shopping centre with Coles and a range of strip shops with take away food and eateries, a gym, medical centre, pharmacy, news agency, butcher, bakery, and hair and beauty. There is also a Community Center, child care centres, vet, kindergarten and maternal child health nurse. Lynbrook has a local resident's group, the Lynbrook Residents Association (LRA), who advocate to Local, State and Federal Government on behalf of residents with local issues. They also host a number of Community Events to bring the community together to create a sense of belonging and community in Lynbrook.
