Pompton Junction is a former railroad station and active railroad junction in the borough of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, United States. The station is located on the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway and the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, both subsidiaries of the Erie Railroad. Pompton Junction contained two side platforms at a diamond crossing, with a station depot on the Susquehanna Railroad side and a station canopy on the Greenwood Lake side. A railroad tower with the telegraph call letters "PJ" was present on the Greenwood Lake side of the station.The station opened with the construction of the Montclair Railway, a subsidiary of the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad, on January 1, 1873. The Erie Railroad closed the station in November 1921 for a few months, before reopening again in January 1922. On the New York and Greenwood Lake side, the Erie closed the station for good in September 1930 and the Susquehanna Railroad station burned down on May 8, 1941.

Pompton Lakes High School (PLHS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school in the borough of Pompton Lakes in Passaic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Pompton Lakes School District. The school serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Pompton Lakes and Riverdale, in neighboring Morris County, whose students attend as part of a sending/receiving relationship. The high school is accredited by the New Jersey Department of Education. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 681 students and 51.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.3:1. There were 70 students (10.3% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 15 (2.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school mascot is the Cardinal.

Haskell is an unincorporated community located within Wanaque Borough, in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. Haskell was formed in 1898 as a company town for a smokeless powder mill of the Laflin & Rand Powder Company. The town was named for Laflin & Rand company president Jonathan Haskell. The Haskell powder mill manufactured the W.A. .30 caliber smokeless powder used in United States Army service rifles until 1908. Laflin & Rand was purchased by DuPont in 1902, and the powder mill ceased operations in 1926. The area is served by the United States Postal Service as part of ZIP Code 07420. The community is located in suburban Northern New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 07420 was 4,942.

Haskell was a former commuter railroad station in the Haskell section of Wanaque, Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. Located at the Doty Road grade crossing in Wanaque, trains operated on the Erie Railroad's New York and Greenwood Lake Railway between Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City and Wanaque–Midvale station. The next station to the north was Wanaque–Midvale while the next station to the south from c. 1909–1930 was Pompton Junction. Afterwards, the next stop was Pompton–Riverdale. Haskell station consisted of a single low-level side platform and a three-sided shelter for protection.Rail service in Haskell began on January 1, 1873 with the introduction of the Montclair Railway between Pavonia Terminal and Monks station in West Milford. However, Haskell was not an original station, with the two stops in Wanaque being at the crossing of modern County Route 511 known as Wanaque and the station in Midvale. With the establishment of a workers community for the DuPont smokeless powder plant in Wanaque, rail service began operating a stop known as Haskell c. 1909. In 1913, after some political wrangling, the Erie were forced to build a proper station depot, which came in 1916. Just 34 years later, fighting began between Wanaque and the railroad about demolishing the depot, resulting in a fight between August 1950 and March 1952, when the sides agreed to a deal. The railroad replaced the stucco station depot with a three-sided station shelter from Harrison. Service ended on September 30, 1966.

Pompton Lakes is a borough in Passaic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 11,127, an increase of 30 (+0.3%) from the 2010 census count of 11,097, which in turn reflected an increase of 457 (+4.3%) from the 10,640 counted in the 2000 census.Pompton Lakes was established on February 26, 1895, from portions of Pompton Township, based on the results of a referendum held three days earlier. The borough was named for the Pompton people, a sub-tribe of Native Americans who lived in the area. It was the first borough to be formed in Passaic County as part of the "boroughitis" that had struck the state at the time. Pompton Lakes did not acquire territory from more than one township, which would have entitled the borough to a seat on the County's Board of Chosen Freeholders.An outer-ring suburb of New York City, Pompton Lakes is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Midtown Manhattan. From the higher mountains in and around the borough one can see the New York skyline. Three rivers, the Ramapo, Pequannock and Wanaque, run through the borough, which historically provided much of the energy for various industries in the borough. In the mid-20th century, Pompton Lakes served as a local shopping destination, but lost its status as shopping malls opened in the area in the 1970s and 1980s.

Riverdale is a borough in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 4,107, an increase of 548 (+15.4%) from the 2010 census count of 3,559, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,061 (+42.5%) from the 2,498 counted in the 2000 census.Riverdale was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 12, 1923, from portions of Pequannock Township, subject to the results of a referendum passed on April 17, 1923. Riverdale is situated in the northeasternmost part of Morris County bordering Passaic County along the Pequannock and Pompton rivers.

Pompton Lake is a 175-acre man-made lake on the Ramapo River which is located within the towns of Pompton Lakes and Wayne in Passaic County, New Jersey. The lake was formed by the construction of the Pompton Lake Dam in 1908 after a prior wooden dam was destroyed by a flood in 1903. The waters impounded in the lake serve as a supplemental drinking source. It is primarily fed by the Ramapo River, but also receives inflow from Acid Brook and smaller tributaries. The Ramapo River continues downstream of Pompton Lake Dam, flowing into the Pompton River and ultimately the Passaic River. The area of the Pompton Lake watershed is 176 square miles. The estate of the author Albert Payson Terhune, Sunnybank, is on the Wayne shore of the lake.
