Valkenswaard War Cemetery

Valkenswaard (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌvɑlkə(n)sˈʋaːrt] (listen)) is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands, in the Metropoolregio Eindhoven of the province of North Brabant. The municipality had a population of 30,910 in 2019 and spans an area of 56.50 km2 (21.81 sq mi) of which 1.58 km2 (0.61 sq mi) is water. The name Valkenswaard stems from its history of falconers, who caught wild falcons there; valk is Dutch for "falcon". It lay on a route where falcons migrated south each year. In the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, Valkenswaardian falconers were active at many European courts, in which falconing was a beloved pastime. Valkenswaard's falcon-catching area has now been built over and falcons are no longer caught there. In the 19th and 20th century, a number of large cigar factories were founded in Valkenswaard, the two most renowned of which being Willem II and Hofnar. A Second World War cemetery containing 220 British soldiers was created near Valkenswaard in October 1944. It is now maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The spoken language is Kempenlands (an East Brabantian dialect, which is very similar to colloquial Dutch).The Eurocircuit Valkenswaard is a motorsport racetrack that has hosted the European Rallycross Championship and the FIM Motocross World Championship.

De Treeswijkhoeve is a restaurant in Waalre in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the period 2006–2012. The restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars since 2013.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 18 out of 20 points in 2014.Head chef of De Treeswijkhoeve is Dick Middelweerd. The restaurant became a member of the Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise in 2003.De Treeswijkhoeve is housed in a 1916-built farmhouse, formerly belonging to the Estate Treeswijkhoeve. In 1988, the parents-in-law of Dick Middelweerd, bought the farmhouse and started the restaurant. Middelweerd himself joined the restaurant in 1991, as head chef. Together with his wife Anne-Laura, he bought the restaurant in 2000.

Dommelen is a village in the southern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Valkenswaard, North Brabant. Dommelen derives its name from the little brook Dommel that runs through it. Having its clear water close at hand, Dommelen is mostly known for its beer brewery from which the brand name Dommelsch is derived. Its other main attraction is an old watermill. Heikant is a hamlet in the municipality of Waalre, in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located about 3 km south of the centre of Waalre.

The Aalstermolen (English: Aalster Mill) is a windmill located on the Raadhuisstraat 28A in Aalst, Waalre, in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. Built in 1904 on an artificial hill, the windmill functioned as gristmill. The mill was built as a tower mill and its sails have a span of 25.70 meters. The mill has been a national monument (nr 38186) since 15 May 1968.

Aalst is a village located 6 km south of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on the Tongelreep stream and the road to Valkenswaard. It was an independent municipality until 1923, when it merged with the municipality of Waalre. Aalst experienced rapid growth during the 1970s and 1980s as housing estates were built in the Ekenrooi area, which served as an overflow area for Eindhoven. Despite this development the area remains very green and pleasant with large stretches of managed forest and heathland. Notable places include 'De hut van Mie Pils', a cafe and restaurant located in the wooded area in the east of the municipality. In September 1944, Aalst saw the British XXX Corps pass along the main road from Valkenswaard to Eindhoven as part of Operation Market Garden. Waalre (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋaːlrə] (listen)) is an affluent municipality and town in the province of North Brabant in the southern Netherlands, immediately south of the city of Eindhoven.

Borkel en Schaft is a former municipality in the Netherlands, consisting of the villages of Borkel and Schaft. It was a separate municipality until 1934. The area is now part of the municipality of Valkenswaard. The spoken language is Kempenlands (an East Brabantian dialect, which is very similar to colloquial Dutch).

Achel Brewery or Brouwerij der Sint-Benedictusabdij de Achelse Kluis was a Belgian Trappist brewery, (the smallest of the Belgian Trappist breweries) until January 2021. It continues to operate as a brewery but is no longer Trappist, as the brewing monks whose presence gave rise to that status have retired. It is located in the Abbey of Saint Benedict in the Belgian municipality of Hamont-Achel. It brews six "Trappist beers" (now described as "Trappist style").

The Trappist Abbey of Achel or Saint Benedictus-Abbey or Achelse Kluis (which means hermitage of Achel), which belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, is located in Achel in the Campine region of the province of Limburg (Flanders, Belgium). The abbey was famous for its spiritual life and its brewery, which was one of only a few Trappist beer breweries in the world. Life in the abbey was characterised by prayer, reading and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life. The monastic community came to an end in January 2021, with the last two monks moving to Westmalle Abbey.

The Run is a stream in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a left tributary of the Dommel and part of the Meuse basin. The Run originates near the town of Weebosch and flows in a general northeast direction towards Veldhoven. South of Eersel it flows near the hamlets of Stokkelen, Schadewijk and Stevert. Near the hamlet Stevert used to be a watermill in the Run, which became obsolete in 1969 due to the channelization of the stream. Further downstream the Run passes the hamlet of Heers until it discharges into the Dommel, just south of Veldhoven.
