Achel Brewery

The Trappist Abbey of Achel or Saint Benedictus-Abbey or Achelse Kluis (which means hermitage of Achel), which belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, is located in Achel in the Campine region of the province of Limburg (Flanders, Belgium). The abbey was famous for its spiritual life and its brewery, which was one of only a few Trappist beer breweries in the world. Life in the abbey was characterised by prayer, reading and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life. The monastic community came to an end in January 2021, with the last two monks moving to Westmalle Abbey.

Borkel en Schaft is a former municipality in the Netherlands, consisting of the villages of Borkel and Schaft. It was a separate municipality until 1934. In the 19th and 20th century, a number of large cigar factories were founded in Valkenswaard, the two most renowned of which being Willem II and Hofnar. A Second World War cemetery containing 220 British soldiers was created near Valkenswaard in October 1944. It is now maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Valkenswaard war cemetery is a Second World War military war grave cemetery, located in the village of Valkenswaard, 12 km (7.5 mi) south of Eindhoven in The Netherlands. It contains British soldiers killed during the Allied push into the Netherlands during the autumn and winter of 1944.216 identified British service personnel are interred in the cemetery and a further four are unidentified.

De Treeswijkhoeve is a restaurant in Waalre in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the period 2006–2012. The restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars since 2013.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 18 out of 20 points in 2014.Head chef of De Treeswijkhoeve is Dick Middelweerd. The restaurant became a member of the Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise in 2003.De Treeswijkhoeve is housed in a 1916-built farmhouse, formerly belonging to the Estate Treeswijkhoeve. In 1988, the parents-in-law of Dick Middelweerd, bought the farmhouse and started the restaurant. Middelweerd himself joined the restaurant in 1991, as head chef. Together with his wife Anne-Laura, he bought the restaurant in 2000.

Hamont-Achel (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦaːmɔnt ˈɑxəl]; Limburgish: Haëmet-Achel) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. It was founded in 1977 by a fusion of the city Hamont and the village Achel. On January 1, 2020, Hamont-Achel had a total population of 14.294. The total area is 43.66 km² which gives a population density of 315 inhabitants per km². The municipality houses the Trappist Abbey of Achel, part of which is Brouwerij de Achelse Kluis, one of the 11 Trappist breweries. The professional tennis player Elise Mertens (WTA 35 - 2017) lives in Hamont-Achel.
