With its nine districts - Biehla, Brauna, Cunnersdorf, Hausdorf, Liebenau, Petershain, Rohrbach, Schönbach and Schwosdorf - it covers an area of almost 45 km², surrounded by larger forest areas and nestled in a charming pond landscape. The municipality has its name from the countless ponds in the towns, which decisively shape the landscape.

Lauta (German) or Łuty (Upper Sorbian, pronounced [ˈwutɨ]) is a town in the district of Bautzen, in Saxony, Germany. It is situated 10 km west of Hoyerswerda, and 10 km southeast of Senftenberg.

On 8 November 1940, a Deutsche Lufthansa Junkers Ju 90 passenger aircraft crashed near the municipality of Schönteichen, Germany, killing all 29 people on board.The aircraft, registered D-AVMF and named Brandenburg, was en route from the German capital Berlin to Budapest, Hungary when ice formed on its tail, causing the airplane to lose control and crash. At the time, the accident was the worst one on German soil.

Hosena (Sorbian: Hóznja) is a borough (Ortsteil) of the town of Senftenberg in Brandenburg, Germany. Hosena is located in Upper Lusatia not far from the Senftenberger See. Hosena station is at the junction of the Węgliniec–Roßlau railway and the Lübbenau–Kamenz railway.

Hosena station (Hohenbocka station until 2000) is a station at the junction of the Węgliniec–Roßlau railway and the Lübbenau–Kamenz railway. The station is located in the southeast of the German state of Brandenburg in the village of Hosena, north of the village of Hohenbocka. The station was built in 1873 as a “tower station” (German: Turmbahnhof, a two level interchange station) on the Lübbenau-Kamenz and Węgliniec (then called Kohlfurt)–Roßlau railways. Remains of the railway bridge of the Lübbenau-Kamenz line still exist.

The Jauer is a river of Saxony, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Schwarze Elster, which it joins near Kamenz.
