Hohenwutzen

Osinów Dolny [ɔˈɕinuf ˈdɔlnɨ] (German: Niederwutzen) is Poland's westernmost settlement, in the administrative district of Gmina Cedynia, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, on the border with Germany. It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-west of Cedynia, 50 km (31 mi) south-west of Gryfino, and 70 km (43 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. The village has a population of 180. It is the site of a border crossing with Hohenwutzen, on the road connecting the Polish town of Chojna with Bad Freienwalde in Germany.

Hohensaaten is a village and a former municipality in Brandenburg in Germany. Since 1 January 2009, it is part of the municipality Bad Freienwalde.

Alte Oder is a branch on the river Oder in Brandenburg, Germany, where it drains the Oderbruch basin, flowing northwards to the confluence with the Oder near Hohensaaten. It is one of several branches of the Oder named "Alte Oder".

Stary Kostrzynek [ˈstarɨ kɔsˈtʂɨnɛk] (German: Altcüstrinchen) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Cedynia, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, close to the German border. It lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Cedynia, 53 km (33 mi) south-west of Gryfino, and 73 km (45 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. Stary Kostrzynek is the westernmost point in Poland. Before 1945 the area was part of Brandenburg (Frankfurt Region) within Prussia, Germany. For more on the history of the region, see New March.

Amt Oderberg was an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Barnim, in Brandenburg, Germany. Its seat was in the town Oderberg. It was merged with the Amt Britz-Chorin to form the Amt Britz-Chorin-Oderberg in January 2009. Oderberg (German: [ˈoːdɐbɛʁk] ) is a town in the district of Barnim, in Brandenburg in northeastern Germany. It is situated 16 km east of Eberswalde, and 27 km southwest of Schwedt, close to the border with Poland, and in close vicinity of Berlin.

Bärenkasten is a ruined castle in Oderberg, Brandenburg, Germany. The castle was built in the second part of the 14th century. It was built in the south of the city to protect the passage over the River Oder. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was enlarged in phases. The castle was gradually demolished between 1730 and 1754.

Lunow-Stolzenhagen is a municipality in the district of Barnim in Brandenburg in Germany.

In the Battle of Cedynia or Zehden, an army of Mieszko I of Poland defeated forces of Hodo or Odo I of Lusatia on 24 June 972, near the Oder river. Whether or not the battle actually took place near the modern-day town of Cedynia is disputed in modern scholarship.Mieszko I, Poland's first documented ruler based in Greater Poland, had successfully campaigned in the Cedynia area, then a West Slavic tribal territory also coveted by Holy Roman Emperor Otto I and German nobles. While Mieszko's differences with Otto I were settled by an alliance and payment of tribute to the latter, the nobles whom Otto I had invested with the former Saxon Eastern March, most notably Odo I, challenged Mieszko's gains. The battle was to determine the possession of the area between Mieszko and Odo. Records of the battle are sparse, it was briefly described by the chronicler Thietmar of Merseburg (975−1018), whose father participated in the battle (Chronicon II.19).

The Oder–Havel Canal is a German canal built between 1908 and 1914, originally known as the Hohenzollern Canal, mostly replacing the Finow Canal. Together with Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Wasserstraße, the Oderhaltung and the Schwedter Querfahrt it forms the Havel-Oder-Wasserstraße. It runs from the town of Cedynia near the city of Szczecin on the Oder River between Germany and Poland to the Havel, a tributary of the Elbe, near Berlin. It is 82.8 kilometres (51.4 mi) long, and 33 metres (36 yd) wide. In 1934 a ship lift was built on the canal, near Niederfinow. It vertical lift was 36 metres (118 ft). The dimensions of the caisson are 85 x 12 x 2.5 m. It could lift vessels of up to 1000 tonnes displacement.

Gmina Cedynia is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, on the German border. Its seat is the town of Cedynia, which lies approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) south-west of Gryfino and 65 km (40 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. The gmina covers an area of 180.38 square kilometres (69.6 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 4,343 (out of which the population of Cedynia amounts to 1,653, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 2,690). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Cedynia Landscape Park.
