Newtown (Irish: An Baile Nua) is a civil parish in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located about 16.02 kilometres (10 mi) south of Mullingar. Newtown is one of eight civil parishes in the barony of Moycashel in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 10,248.8 acres (41.475 km2). Newtown civil parish comprises three population centres – Ballynagore; Killavally; and Tyrrellspass (barony of Fartullagh) – and 24 townlands: Aghanamanagh aka Commeenlonagh; Aghyrassy; Ardmorney; Ballykilmore; Ballymachugh; Cloncrow; Cloncullen; Clonyhague; Cornaher; Cumminstown, Cumminstown; Garryduff, Garryduff; Higginstown, Higginstown; Kilcloghan; Killavally; Knockmore; Knockycosker; Loughanlewnaght; Newtownlow; Rahinashene and Spittaltown; Rahinashurock; Rahincuill; Rahinmore; Rathgarrett; and Torque. The townlands of Ballykilmore, Rahincuill and Rathgarrett are in the barony of Fartullagh. Tyrrellspass Castle is a medieval castle in Tyrrellspass, County Westmeath, Ireland. Dating back to circa 1411, it is the only remaining castle of the Tyrrells who came to Ireland around the time of the Norman Invasion.

Lough Ennell (Irish: Loch Ainninn) is a lake near the town of Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is situated beside the N52 road, off the Mullingar/Kilbeggan road. The lake is part of the Lough Ennell Special Protection Area. It is 6.5 km (4.0 mi) long by 2 km (1.2 mi) wide, with an area of about 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi). Lough Ennell has a large area of shallow water with nearly two-thirds of its area being less than 25 feet (8 m) and almost half of it being under 10 ft (3.0 m) deep. The lake produced Ireland's largest ever lake brown trout at 26 lbs (11.8 kg).The main river flowing into Lough Ennell is the River Brosna, which enters on the Mullingar side of the lake and exits on the opposite side at Lilliput. Lilliput and Lilliput House were frequently used by Jonathan Swift as a holiday home and place to write, local tradition states that Jonathan Swift was in a boat on the lake when he looked back at Lilliput and noticed how small the people looked at that distance, hence the inspiration for his most famous book Gulliver's Travels. Lilliput at the time was called "Nure" however after the publication of Gulliver's Travels locals began to refer to the lakeshore as Lilliput, the name stuck and today the area is known as Lilliput.

Castlelost West is a townland in County Westmeath, Ireland. The townland is located in the civil parish of the same name. The R446 regional road runs through the south of the area. The townland of Castlelost lies to the east and contains the town of Rochfortbridge. The town of Tyrrellspass stands to the west of the townland. Rahugh or Ráith Aeda Meic Bric is an early Christian site founded by Áed mac Bricc (also referred to as Saint Hugh of Rahugh) in the 6th century, inside a ráth or ringfort. The site, located about 8 km north of Tullamore along the L1024. Rahugh consists of one pub (The Hazel Bar and Lounge), a Catholic church, local community centre, a primary school and several small -medium-sized enterprises such as Dunnes Workshop and Scally Precast. Rahugh also contains the remains of an ancient Christian monastery site and graveyard, a holy well and a so-called headache stone.
