Friarstown

Lough Ennell (Irish: Loch Ainninn) is a lake near the town of Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is situated beside the N52 road, off the Mullingar/Kilbeggan road. The lake is part of the Lough Ennell Special Protection Area. It is 6.5 km (4.0 mi) long by 2 km (1.2 mi) wide, with an area of about 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi). Lough Ennell has a large area of shallow water with nearly two-thirds of its area being less than 25 feet (8 m) and almost half of it being under 10 ft (3.0 m) deep. The lake produced Ireland's largest ever lake brown trout at 26 lbs (11.8 kg).The main river flowing into Lough Ennell is the River Brosna, which enters on the Mullingar side of the lake and exits on the opposite side at Lilliput. Lilliput and Lilliput House were frequently used by Jonathan Swift as a holiday home and place to write, local tradition states that Jonathan Swift was in a boat on the lake when he looked back at Lilliput and noticed how small the people looked at that distance, hence the inspiration for his most famous book Gulliver's Travels. Lilliput at the time was called "Nure" however after the publication of Gulliver's Travels locals began to refer to the lakeshore as Lilliput, the name stuck and today the area is known as Lilliput.

Lilliput (or Nure) is a townland in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located five miles (8 kilometres) south of Mullingar and lies at the southern end of Lough Ennell. Lilliput covers an area of 244 acres and was recorded with a population of 22. Lilliput is one of 11 townlands in the civil parish of Dysart, in the Barony of Moycashel. It lies in the electoral division of Middleton of the Longford-Westmeath constituency (formerly of the Westmeath constituency. Lilliput is associated with Jonathan Swift, writer of Gulliver's Travels. Local tradition states that Swift was in a boat on the lake, and when he looked back to shore he noticed how small the people looked at that distance. This was the inspiration for the diminutive Lilliputians, who feature in his most famous book Gulliver's Travels. Lilliput at the time was called "Nure": however after the publication of Gulliver's Travels locals began to refer to the lakeshore as "Lilliput". The name stuck and the area was renamed during the 18th century. There is also an early Christian association, in that St. Patrick's sister, Lupita, is known to the Lilliput area, which may also recall her name. Lilliput is the site of Lilliput House, built in the 18th century, and now home to the Lilliput Adventure Centre; it lies in what is now the Jonathan Swift Amenity Park.

Clonfad (Irish: Cluain Fada) is a civil parish in County Westmeath, Ireland, 12 kilometres (7 mi) south of Mullingar. Clonfad is one of 10 civil parishes in the barony of Fartullagh in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 4,576.7 acres (18.521 km2). Clonfad civil parish comprises 11 townlands: Calverstown, Clonfad, Dalystown, Davidstown/Guilford, Friarstown, Meedin, Newcastle, Rathnure, Templeoran North, Templeoran South and Tyrrellspass. Neighbouring civil parishes are: Carrick to the north, Castlelost to the east, Newtown to the south and Castletownkindalen to the west.

Carrick is one of 10 civil parishes in the barony of Fartullagh in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 3,292.4 acres (13.324 km2). Carrick civil parish comprises 6 townlands: Brackagh, Carrick, Gaddaghanstown, Higginstown, Robinstown and Walterstown. The neighbouring civil parishes are: Moylisker to the north, Kilbride to the east and Castlelost and Clonfad to the south.The N52 road passes through the parish approximately from south to north.

Dalystown (Irish: Baile Uí Dhálaigh) is a village in Carrick, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located in the south of the county on the N52 road, to the north of Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge.The village contains a National school, and a public house. Lough Ennell is to the north of the village.

Dysart (Irish: An Díseart, meaning 'hermitage') is a civil parish in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located about 8.5 kilometres (5 mi) south‑west of Mullingar. Dysart is one of 3 civil parishes in the barony of Moyashel and Magheradernon in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 7,424.7 acres (30.047 km2). Parts of the parish (Ballyhandy and Barrettstown) are in the neighbouring barony of Rathconrath, others (Lilliput Nure and Monaghanstown) are in the barony of Moycashel. Dysart civil parish comprises 11 townlands: Ballyhandy, Barrettstown, Bryanstown, Dysart, Lilliput Nure, Monaghanstown, Rathnamuddagh, Slane Beg and Yorkfield. The major part of Dysart is separated from two isolated townlands south of Lough Owel, Ballyote and Slane More. The neighbouring civil parishes are: Mullingar to the north, Lynn (barony of Fartullagh) to the north‑east, Moylisker and Carrick (both Fartullagh) to the east, Clonfad (Fartullagh) to the south‑east, Castletownkindalen (barony of Moycashel) to the south and south‑west and Churchtown (barony of Rathconrath) to the west and north‑west. This excludes neighbours of Ballyote and Slane More.

Cloncrow Bog (New Forest) is a peat bog in County Westmeath, Ireland. The bog is near the village of Tyrrellspass on the R446 regional road. As a raised bog of ecological interest, it was declared a Natural Heritage Area in 2005.

Meedin (Irish: Mídín), also Meedian, is a village and townland in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located in the south of the county on the N52 road, to the north of Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge and to the south of Mullingar. The village contains a 19th-century church, dating back to 1831, dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

Tudenham Park House (Irish: Teach Tudenham), originally called Rochfort House, is an 18th-century Palladian limestone country house located in Tudenham Park on the Rochfort Demesne near Belvedere House and Gardens beside Lough Ennell, County Westmeath, Ireland. The house is known for being involved in an ordeal with Robert Rochfort's brother, George, which resulted in Robert constructing The Jealous Wall so he would not have to look at his brother's grander house.

Lough Ennell is located to the east.The town is located in the civil parish of the same name. A national school, two pubs and a 19th Century Catholic chapel are located in the centre of the village.

The Jealous Wall is a large 18th century Gothic folly made from limestone located in the Belvedere House and Gardens in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is notable for being the largest folly in Ireland. It was constructed by Robert Rochfort in 1760.
