The San Marcos Outlet Malls are two distinct outlet malls, the Premium Outlets and the Tanger Factory Outlet Center. Each is located off Interstate Highway 35 in San Marcos, Texas. The outlet mall first opened in 1977. (Verification needed.) Combined, the two adjacent malls have more than 240 stores, and an excess of 1,000,000 sq ft (93,000 m2). During peak seasons, shoppers at the malls can reach numbers that effectively triple the population of San Marcos. The outlet malls in San Marcos are one of the top tourist attractions in the state. The outlet malls combined are one of the top employers of San Marcos, and are the top employers of students of nearby Texas State University.In 2006, ABC's The View named the San Marcos Outlets the third-best place to shop in the world.

San Marcos High School is a secondary school in San Marcos, Texas. The school serves grades 9 through 12, and is part of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD). The school appeared in the movie Boyhood starring Ellar Coltrane.

The Chilympiad was a Texas tradition held annually in the second week of September from 1970 to 2002. It originated in San Marcos, Texas at Aquarena Springs, but in 1974, was relocated to its permanent headquarters at the Hays County Civic Center, also in San Marcos. The event was a competition of chili cooking. Winners of the contest automatically qualified for the World Championship Chili Cookoff at Terlingua, Texas.The rules were few and simple, being no more than: All chili must be made from scratch at the site of the contest. Women are barred from entering the contest as chefs.In response to the second rule, another cookoff was established in Luckenbach, Texas named "Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned," in which the winners similarly qualify for the world championship cookoff.In 2001, the Chilympiad was scheduled for September 14 and 15. The September 11 attacks severely impacted participation and attendance at the event. The event lost $30,000. Attendance improved for 2002, but the event lost $19,000. Chilympiad was cancelled for 2003. Although the El Jefe Association, which organized the annual event, hoped to revive the festival in 2004, they were not able to recoup from previous losses, and was terminated hereafter.

Dick's Classic Garage was an automobile museum in San Marcos, Texas. It was founded in 2009 by Dick Burdick, a Texas businessman and car collector, who also operated the now defunct Central Texas Museum of Automotive History in Rosanky, Texas. Dick's Classic Garage was inaugurated in 2009. It closed to the public on December 31, 2018. The museum showcases American vehicles and memorabilia from the 1930s though the 1950s and displays a 1948 Tucker Sedan (chassis number 1050; this is the lowest mileage Tucker with 0.4 miles on the odometer). The museum also includes a restoration area.

Zorn is an unincorporated community in northern Guadalupe County, Texas, United States. Zorn is located on Texas State Highway 123, approximately 13 miles (21 km) north of the town of Seguin.

San Marcos Academy or SMA (also known as San Marcos Baptist Academy or SMBA) is a private, coeducational, college preparatory Christian school that is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Association of Boarding Schools. The academy was founded in 1907; its mission is to educate young men and women within a nurturing community based upon Christian values. The academy accepts boarding students in grades 6–12 and day students in grades K-12. Enrollment in 2009 was 274, with about 75% in the residence program. The school is located in the Texas Hill Country in San Marcos, Texas, United States, south of Austin, and north of San Antonio. San Marcos Academy is one of the oldest boarding schools in the state of Texas, and was established in 1907 by Texas Baptists with the support of the city of San Marcos. The academy's first president was James Milton Carroll. The academy has students matriculate at a wide range of colleges and universities.

Wonder World is a natural theme park located in San Marcos, Texas. The park's primary attraction is Wonder Cave, an ancient earthquake cave and Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Other attractions include an anti-gravity house, a trackless motor train, and a wildlife park.

KTSW (89.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an Alternative format. Licensed to San Marcos, Texas, United States, it serves the San Marcos, Kyle, and New Braunfels areas. The station is an affiliate of Texas State University. Originally based in Old Main, KTSW 89.9 has moved into the newly renovated Trinity building in the fall of 2016. Its radio transmitter is located in New Braunfels on the Guadalupe County, Texas side.

New Braunfels National Airport (ICAO: KBAZ, FAA LID: BAZ) is a public use airport in Guadalupe County, Texas, United States. It is owned by the city of New Braunfels and located four nautical miles (5 mi, 7 km) east of its central business district. Formerly known as New Braunfels Regional Airport, it is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned BAZ by the FAA but has no designation from the IATA (which assigned BAZ to Barcelos Airport in Barcelos, Amazonas, Brazil).From 1940 to 1967, it operated as Clear Springs Air Force Base.

Clear Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field is a former United States Air Force facility located 4 mi (6.4 km) East of New Braunfels, Texas near Clear Springs.

Gruene ( green) is a German-Texan town in Comal County in the U.S. state of Texas. Once a significant cotton-producing community along the Guadalupe River, the town has now shifted its economy to one supported primarily by tourism. Gruene, a German surname, (pronounced "Green") is now a district within the city limits of New Braunfels, and much of it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on April 21, 1975. The city is known for its German-Texan heritage and architecture and many residents of Gruene and New Braunfels are descendants of the first German settlers.

The Henry Gruene Family Home is a Victorian-style house that was constructed in 1872. The Gruene Family Home, though not listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places, is a contributing property to Gruene Historic District, which was listed in 1974. Presently, the home operates as the Gruene Mansion Inn in the Gruene Community of New Braunfels, Texas. Deep in tradition, the mansion was one of the first buildings in Gruene, in 1872. The Gruene Mansion Inn began as H.D. Gruene's historic Eastlake Victorian home and cotton plantation. All current accommodations are century-old barns and homes restored to our own Victorian Rustic Elegance - A combination of antiques, fine fabrics, and handmade furniture. Every room has a unique character and offers details such as clawfoot tubs and deep pedestal sinks. Gruene Mansion Inn is listed as one of the top inns in the state of Texas.
