Wonder World is a natural theme park located in San Marcos, Texas. The park's primary attraction is Wonder Cave, an ancient earthquake cave and Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Other attractions include an anti-gravity house, a trackless motor train, and a wildlife park.

The Chilympiad was a Texas tradition held annually in the second week of September from 1970 to 2002. It originated in San Marcos, Texas at Aquarena Springs, but in 1974, was relocated to its permanent headquarters at the Hays County Civic Center, also in San Marcos. The event was a competition of chili cooking. Winners of the contest automatically qualified for the World Championship Chili Cookoff at Terlingua, Texas.The rules were few and simple, being no more than: All chili must be made from scratch at the site of the contest. Women are barred from entering the contest as chefs.In response to the second rule, another cookoff was established in Luckenbach, Texas named "Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned," in which the winners similarly qualify for the world championship cookoff.In 2001, the Chilympiad was scheduled for September 14 and 15. The September 11 attacks severely impacted participation and attendance at the event. The event lost $30,000. Attendance improved for 2002, but the event lost $19,000. Chilympiad was cancelled for 2003. Although the El Jefe Association, which organized the annual event, hoped to revive the festival in 2004, they were not able to recoup from previous losses, and was terminated hereafter.

Fort Street Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church building at 516 W. Hopkins Street in San Marcos, Texas. The late-Gothic Revival building was constructed in 1901 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Farmers Union Gin Company was an American cotton processing company located in San Marcos, Texas. Its main facility, located at 120 Grove Street, is now a registered historic site.

San Marcos station is an intermodal transit center in San Marcos, Texas with primary ridership towards Dallas–Fort Worth. 19.4% of ridership commutes locally. 12.5% of embarking riders travel as far as Chicago, with a minority of this segment alternatively traveling to Los Angeles.It is served by Amtrak's Texas Eagle line as well as Capital Area Rural Transportation System and Greyhound Lines buses.

Cheatham Street Warehouse is located in San Marcos, Texas. It was built in 1910 as a grocery warehouse along the railroad tracks for a local grocery.In 1974, Texas State University alumnus (1961, 1965) Kent Finlay and business partner San Marcos Daily Record writer Jim Cunningham leased the building to open a honky-tonk music hall, greatly influenced by Luckenbach, Texas' Hondo Crouch. In 1979, Cunningham grew tired of selling all the beer he could not drink, and moved on to continue his journalism career. Kent and his wife, Diana Becker Finlay (Hendricks) continued to own the business, attempting to owner-finance the sale of the business several times, only to have it return to them; which led Kerrville Folk Festival's Rod Kennedy to describe the venue as "Kent's Bastard Child." The venue provided an outlet for a variety of local musicians at the beginning of their careers. Southwest Texas State University student George Strait and the Ace in the Hole Band played their first shows in the venue in 1975. In the early 1980s, a young Stevie Ray Vaughan played there every Tuesday night.Cheatham Street Warehouse has hosted such acts as Willie Nelson, Ernest Tubb, Delbert McClinton, Townes Van Zandt, Marcia Ball, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Charlie Sexton, Gary P. Nunn, Asleep at the Wheel as well as many, many up-and-coming Texas artists such as James McMurtry, Slaid Cleaves, Shelley King, Hayes Carll, Sunny Sweeney, Randy Rogers Band, HalleyAnna , and Todd Snider.Kent Finlay died on Texas Independence Day, 2015 and Randy Rogers Band lead singer Randy Rogers, whose debut album was recorded at Cheatham Street in 2000, purchased the venue from Kent's children, Jenni, Sterling and HalleyAnna Finlay in 2017.

First United Methodist Church is a historic church at 129 W. Hutchison in San Marcos, Texas. An easily recognized landmark of the San Marcos skyline is the Carpenter Gothic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The sanctuary was built in 1893, but the congregation dates back to 1847 in the earliest days of the city of San Marcos. The present sanctuary is the third building to occupy this site. First United Methodist Church's historic 1893 sanctuary served as the architectural inspiration for the Old Main building at Texas State University.

San Marcos ( SAN MAR-kəs) is a city and the county seat of Hays County, Texas, United States. The city's limits extend into Caldwell and Guadalupe Counties, as well. San Marcos is on the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. Its population was 44,894 at the 2010 census and 67,553 at the 2020 census. Founded on the banks of the San Marcos River, the area is thought to be among the oldest continuously inhabited sites in the Americas. San Marcos is home to Texas State University and the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.In 2010, San Marcos was listed in Business Week's fourth annual survey of the "Best Places to Raise your Kids". In 2013 and 2014, the United States Census Bureau named it the fastest-growing city in the United States. In December 2013, it was named number nine on Business Insider's list of the "10 Most Exciting Small Cities In America".

The Hays County Courthouse is an historic courthouse located in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. It was built in the Classical Revival style in 1908. It is recognized by both the National Register of Historic Places and Texas Historical Commission.

The Fire Station and City Hall at 224 N. Guadalupe St. in San Marcos, Texas was built in 1915. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It is a two-story buff brick building. It was designed by Austin architect Roy L. Thomas.

The McCoy College of Business Administration is the business school of Texas State University. The college offers curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students and receives its business accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Established in 1968, Texas State's business school was originally known as the College of Business Administration. Following a $20 million gift from local businessman and wife Emmett and Miriam McCoy in 2004, the school was formally renamed the Emmett and Miriam McCoy College of Business Administration. The endowment, now administered by the McCoy College of Business Development Foundation, provides distinguished professorships, scholarships to both undergraduates and graduates, and program development. Later, the McCoys were awarded honorary doctorates, being the seventh and eighth individuals receiving such awards from Texas State University. The College contains five departments: Accounting; Computer information systems and QMST; Marketing; Management; Finance and Economics.

The Wittliff Collections, located on the seventh floor of the Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University, was founded by William D. Wittliff in 1987. The Wittliff Collections include the Southwestern Writers Collection and the Southwestern & Mexican Photography Collection.
