Exning Road Halt railway station

Exning is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It lies just off the A14 trunk road, roughly 12 miles (19 km) east-northeast of Cambridge, and 10 miles (16 km) south-southeast of Ely. The nearest large town is Newmarket. The most conspicuous building in Exning is the church of St Martin, which is visible from the A14.

The Burwell Museum (also known as Burwell Museum and Windmill) is located in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, England. The museum depicts life through the centuries on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens. Opened in 1992, it is housed in a collection of different period and period style agricultural buildings. Some are reconstructed from other sites, such as the 18th century timber-framed barn, and others are built in the local style using mainly reclaimed materials, such as the wagon sheds/granary display area. The displays are set out as 'scenes' (rather like stage sets) with many individual artefacts making each display, in order to give visitors a better idea of how, where and when items were used. Themes and exhibits include agriculture, period rooms and household items, military life, a blacksmith's shop, a reconstruction of a Roman potter's workshop, Victorian school room, vintage vehicles, carts and farm equipment The museum is also welcoming to school trips and was used in 2012 to film a TV documentary about Cambridgeshire fen folklore, featuring eight local school children. Adult groups are also welcome. The neighbouring Grade II* listed windmill, Stevens' Mill, is also part of the museum and can be visited when the museum is open.

Burwell is a village and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, England, some 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Cambridge. It lies on the south-east edge of the Fens. Westward drainage is improved by Cambridgeshire lodes (waterways), including Burwell Lode, a growth factor in the village. A population of 6,309 in the 2011 census was put at 6,417 in 2019.

Burwell railway station was on the Cambridge and Mildenhall branch of the Great Eastern Railway. After the closure of the line, the site of Burwell station was redeveloped, initially as a cardboard factory, and then a few decades later as a housing estate. The names of the streets Station Gate and Railway Close hint at the site's past usage.

RAF Newmarket was a Royal Air Force station located near Newmarket, Suffolk, England, near the border with Cambridgeshire. It was opened in 1939 and closed in 1945.

Newmarket Heath is a 279.3-hectare-large (690-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Newmarket in Suffolk. It covers most of Newmarket Racecourse.Most of this site is chalk grassland, and it has areas of chalk heath, a rare habitat in Britain. There is a rich variety of flowering plants, including a nationally rare species listed in the British Red Data Book of threatened species and five nationally uncommon ones. The dominant grasses are upright brome and sheep's fescue.

The National Stud is a United Kingdom Thoroughbred horse breeding farm located two miles from Newmarket. The Stud originated in 1916 as a result of a gift by William Hall Walker (later Lord Wavertree) of the entire bloodstock of his stud farm in Tully, Kildare town in County Kildare, Ireland. As part of the arrangement, the British government acquired the Irish property along with Walker's training stables in England. In 1943, the Irish Government took over the Tully property and the Irish National Stud Company Ltd. was formed. The Irish bloodstock was then transferred to the Sandley Stud in Dorset. The stud's operations were expanded after World War II with the purchase of a stud at West Grinstead in Sussex. In 1963 the decision was made to sell the Stud's mares and operate only as a stallion station. The two existing breeding farms were sold and operations consolidated into a single new facility built on 500 acres (2 km²) of land at Newmarket. The National Stud's charity is known as the Wavertree Charitable Trust in William Hall Walker's memory and its Wavertree House contains a number of paintings he donated from his collection of sporting art. Currently the National Stud facilities accommodates up to eight stallions and as many as 200 broodmares. According to its website, the stud offers a range of services to horse breeders, including stallions at stud, seasonal and permanent boarding, sales preparation and quarantine for export. A partnership between the National Stud and Bottisham Village College was proposed in connection with the school's new Trust Status as of September 2010.

Devil's Dyke or Devil's Ditch is a linear earthen barrier, thought to be of Anglo-Saxon origin, in eastern Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. It runs for 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) in an almost straight line from Reach to Woodditton, with a 10-metre-high (33 ft) ditch and bank system facing southwestwards, blocking the open chalkland between the marshy fens to the north and the formerly wooded hills to the south. It is a Scheduled Monument, a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.

Burwell Tramway was a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) standard gauge industrial tramway which ran from the Ely-Newmarket line, just south of the Soham-Wicken A1123 road (52.3111°N 0.3440°E / 52.3111; 0.3440), to industries just north of Burwell Lode (52.2909°N 0.3089°E / 52.2909; 0.3089). As well as serving Fisons chemical (fertilizer) works, the line also served the adjacent Burwell Brick Company brickworks, a cement works, and local fruit growers and farmers.

Reach is a small village and civil parish on the edge of the fenland in East Cambridgeshire, England at the north end of Devil's Dyke, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of Burwell.
