36th Street station (Charlotte)

NoDa (short for "North Davidson") is a popular arts district in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It is located in the North Charlotte neighborhood on and around North Davidson Street and 36th Street, approximately one mile northeast of Uptown. Formerly an area of textile manufacturing and mill workers' residences, the area has also served as a center for the arts. NoDa shares the same geography as Historic North Charlotte which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The name "NoDa" was coined by architect Russell Pound. In addition to historic mill houses, NoDa has seen a boom in residential construction in multifamily housing in recent years. The neighborhood has become an entertainment district focused on bimonthly gallery crawls. In addition to the art galleries, there are several music venues and restaurants in the neighborhood.[1]

The Highland Park Manufacturing Company Mill No. 3 is a historic textile mill complex and national historic district located at 2901 N. Davidson St. in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The district encompasses included five contributing buildings and are the original mill building (1903-1904) and major weaving room addition (c. 1946), Gate House (c. 1904, 1920), Dye House (c. 1925), Boiler House (c. 1903-1904), and Waste House (1903-1904). The original mill was designed by Stuart W. Cramer and features a four-story tower capped by fancy corbelling and crenelated parapets.The building is located in the North Charlotte Historic District. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Currently, the building had been converted into an apartment complex named Highland Mill Lofts.

The North Charlotte Historic District is a 155.5-acre (62.9 ha) national historic district located in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The listing included 282 contributing buildings and four contributing structures. It includes work designed by architect Stuart Warren Cramer; it includes Bungalow/craftsman, Late Victorian, vernacular Victorian, reflecting turn-of-the-century mill-village architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Highland Park Mill No. 3. Other notable buildings include the Mecklenburg Mill (later Mercury Mills, 1905), Johnston Mill (1913), Grinnell Manufacturing Company, Hand Pharmacy Building (1904), Lowder Building (1927), the former Highland Inn (c. 1903), Charlotte Fire Department Engine Company No. 9 (1937), and North Charlotte Primary School.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Speas Vinegar Company is a historic industrial facility at 2921 North Tryon Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. The facility consists of a two-story brick manufacturing and office building, to which is attached a single-story brick warehouse. The building's principal decorative embellishments are brick pilasters separating the window bays, topped by cast stone caps. Built in 1939, it is a good local example of early 20th-century fireproof industrial construction. It was built by the Speas Vinegar Company, founded in 1888, and was operated by that company and its successors, H. J. Heinz and Fleischmann's Vinegar Company, until 1994.The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. Currently, the building is used by NoDa Brewing Company as a brewery and tasting room.

Old North Charlotte is a neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina. Old North Charlotte, contrary to its name, comprises a large section of the city's east side. Old North Charlotte is one of Charlotte's oldest neighborhoods and can trace its history back to the early 1880s when Mecklenburg's economy was still heavily reliant on the textile industry. As a result many former mill buildings dot the landscape of the area which is home to Charlotte's arts district, North Davidson, or "NoDa". Following World War II Old North Charlotte was much like any of the other mill towns throughout the piedmont region. Workers lived in similar looking company-owned homes on what was then the northern edge of Charlotte (this is how the area gets its name). In 1975 Old North Charlotte was home to the city's last surviving textile mill, Johnston Mill, which would cease operations soon thereafter. After this the area was plunged into a home of widespread poverty and crime, most notably prostitution. The 1990s saw the success of an effort led by community figures such as church leaders to clean up the area; in doing so the area became more attractive to development due to its location close to Uptown Charlotte.

Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary (formerly New Life Theological Seminary) is a private evangelical Christian college and seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was established in 1996 by Eddie G. Grigg, a pastor, educator, and theologian. The institution was approved as a degree-granting institution in 1997, granted candidate for accreditation status in 2003, and was fully accredited in 2008.

Carolina Actors Studio Theatre (CAST) was an independent non-profit theatre company located at 2424 North Davidson Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded in 1992 by Charlotte acting instructor Ed Gilweit as an actor's teaching school. In 2000 Gilweit's company partnered with a video and stage production company run by Michael Simmons called Victory Pictures, Inc., and then with the fledgling theatre group Another Roadside Performance Company run by Robert Lee Simmons, Michael Simmons' son. Through this series of mergers, Gilweit and the Simmons' became the founders of the Carolina Actors Studio Theatre. After Gilweit's death in 2002, Michael Simmons became the Managing Artistic Director. CAST was noted for large-scale installations and elaborate sets with the goal of complete immersion of the audience in the reality of each play. CAST always sought to obliterate the emotional distance between the actor and spectator, a technique they called "experiential theatre". When attending a CAST performance, the experience of the spectator began from the moment they entered—or even approached—the theater.

25th Street is a light rail station on the LYNX Blue Line in the Optimist Park neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It opened on March 16, 2018, as part of the Blue Line extension to the UNC Charlotte campus. The station features an island platform and is located in Optimist Park.

Charlotte station is an Amtrak station located at 1914 North Tryon Street, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the northeast of Uptown Charlotte. Owned by Norfolk Southern, it is located near that railroad's yard outside Uptown. It is the southern terminus for the Carolinian and Piedmont, as well as a service stop on the Crescent. As of fiscal year 2018, it is the busiest station in North Carolina, and one of the busiest in the Southeast.The outdated station, disconnected from the city center, will be replaced by a new station uptown, Charlotte Gateway Station, which is tentatively scheduled to open in 2023.

Rosedale, also known as Frew's Folly, is a historic plantation house located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built about 1815, and is a Federal style frame dwelling. It consists of a 2+1⁄2-story, three bay by two bay, central block flanked by 1+1⁄2-story wings. It is sheathed in molded weatherboard and rests on a stone basement. Each section has a gable roof. The central block is flanked by exterior brick chimneys.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.The restored house and gardens are open to the public.

VanLandingham Estate is a historic home located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1913–1914, and is a large two-story, wood-shingled, Bungalow / American Craftsman style dwelling. The entrance features a low roofed canopy supported on stone piers and it has a hipped terra cotta tile roof. The house is set in carefully landscaped grounds originally designed by Leigh Colyer, one of the region's earliest landscape architects.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Currently, the building is being used as a bed and breakfast.
