North Philadelphia East

Hartranft is a neighborhood in the central part of North Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Hartranft is on the border of the predominantly Black central region of North Philadelphia and the predominantly Hispanic eastern region of North Philadelphia. Bounded by 6th Street to the west, Front Street to the east, York Street to the north, and Cecil B. Moore Avenue to the south. Bordering neighborhoods include Fairhill to the north, Kensington to the east, Cecil B. Moore to the west, and Olde Kensington to the south. Most of the neighborhood is located in the 19122 zip code. The demolished Northern National Bank building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Northern National Bank was a historic bank building located in the Hartranft neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1893, and was a two-story, brick and stone flatiron building in the Romanesque. It featured terra cotta and pressed metal decorative elements, and a set of pink granite steps at the main entrance. It has been demolished. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Joseph C. Ferguson School is a historic school building located in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1921–1922. It is a three-story, nine bay, U-shaped brick building on a raised basement, in the Colonial Revival-style. It features large stone arches, a double stone cornice, and brick parapet. The school is named after Joseph C. Ferguson a judge that was a part of Philadelphia orphan court. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.The building is currently the home The U School, an innovative high school in the School District of Philadelphia. The U School and Building 21, two schools with a non-selective lottery-based admissions process, opened at the Ferguson building during the 2014–2015 school year. Building 21 relocated after three academic years, and The U School remains.

Temple University station is an above-ground SEPTA Regional Rail station located at the eastern edge of the Temple University campus at 915 West Berks Street between 9th and 10th Streets, in the Cecil B. Moore section of Lower North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station is in the Center City fare zone, although the station itself is located in North Philadelphia. There is a small ticket kiosk located at the base of the stairs on the street level. Temple University maintains a security kiosk at street level. Stairways and two elevators lead up to the high-level platforms at track level. There are two island platforms serving four tracks. Each platform is 380 feet (120 meters) long, long enough to platform four cars with only the end doors being used. The platforms have a canopy overhead and some wind-breaking walls, but are otherwise exposed to the weather. This station is located approximately 2.6 track miles from Suburban Station. In FY 2005, Temple University station was the fourth busiest station in SEPTA's Regional Rail system, with 2,448 average total weekday boardings and 2,593 average weekday alightings. The station also has two large bicycle racks that both have roofs above them to protect bikes against the weather. The station can easily accommodate 30+ bicycles. The racks are also in full view of the 24-hour security guard.

The Class and Nachod Brewery, is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The house was built in 1911 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2003.

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture is based at Temple University, a large, urban, public research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tyler currently enrolls about 1,350 undergraduate students and about 200 graduate students in a wide variety of academic degree programs, including architecture, art education, art history, art therapy, ceramics, city and regional planning, community arts practices, community development, facilities management, fibers and material studies, glass, graphic and interactive design, historic preservation, horticulture, landscape architecture, metals/jewelry/CAD-CAM, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and visual studies.Founded in 1935 by Stella Elkins Tyler and sculptor Boris Blai in nearby Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, Tyler moved to a new, 255,000-square-foot facility at Temple's Main Campus in 2009 with the cornerstone financial support of an allocation of $61.5 million from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 2012, Tyler's Architecture programs moved into a new facility connected to the main Tyler building. Temple's programs in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture (based primarily at Temple's suburban Ambler Campus) and its programs in Main Campus-based City & Regional Planning and Community Development programs joined Tyler in 2016, unifying all of the university's architecture and environmental design disciplines in one school for the first time.In 2017, arts administrator, art historian and curator Susan E. Cahan, formerly associate dean and dean for the arts at Yale College at Yale University, was appointed dean of the Tyler School of Art and Architecture by Temple President Richard M. Englert.In 2018, Temple University's board of trustees approved changes to Tyler's structure and identity in order to unify the school, integrate disciplines in architecture and environmental design, support cross-disciplinary studies and reflect current understanding of creative practice and research. On July 1, 2019, the school's name officially expanded from the Tyler School of Art to the Tyler School of Art and Architecture.

Monument Cemetery was a rural cemetery located at the current day intersection of Broad and Berks Street in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1837 to 1956. It was the second rural cemetery in Philadelphia after Laurel Hill Cemetery. It was approximately 20 acres in size and contained 28,000 burials. It had a grand gothic gatehouse and a 67-foot high obelisk monument to George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette designed by John Sartain at the center of the cemetery. By the 1950s, the cemetery had fallen into disrepair and was sold to Temple University and the Philadelphia Board of Education. Approximately 28,000 bodies were reinterred to Lawnview Memorial Park and only 300 with their original tombstones. Many of the remaining headstones, and the monument, were used as riprap during the construction of the Betsy Ross Bridge and can be seen on the shores of the Delaware River at low tide. The land is now part of the campus of Temple University and Carver High School.

Philadelphia Military Academy (PMA) is a military school in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school opened for the 2004–2005 school year as the Philadelphia Military Academy at Leeds in the Cedarbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia. The school opened with an enrollment of 157 ninth grade cadets. The academy was housed at the Leeds middle school. A second edition of the program was housed at Elverson High School in the 2005–2006 school year. This site is the current location of the school after a merger in the latter years. PMA is also known for earning their HUD aka honor unit with distinction directly from the army in 2022. After completing a service learning project and was rated 98%

Oakdale Park is a former baseball park located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The field was home to the Philadelphia Athletics professional baseball team in the first season of the American Association, 1882. The site of the park had been used for amateur baseball since the Civil War. It was used from 1877 to 1881 by the Olympic Ball Club of Philadelphia.The 1882 Athletics played at the park, bounded by Huntingdon Street (north), 11th Street (east), Cumberland Street (south), and 12th Street (west) in the West Kensington neighborhood. The Athletics played 39 regular-season games at the park, compiling a 21–18 record. The franchise relocated to Jefferson Street Grounds in 1883. Oakdale Park was sold shortly thereafter and torn down. Philadelphia Ball Park would be built a couple of blocks west of this site, five years later.

Mosque No. 12, also known as Masjid Makkah, is a mosque in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It came to prominence in the early 1960s when a building was leased by the Nation of Islam, converted for use as a mosque, and placed under the direction of Malcolm X, who was a minister there and at Mosque No. 7 until he left the organization for Sunni Islam in 1964.
