Shepards River

The Little Saco River is a 4.5-mile-long (7.2 km) tributary of the Saco River in western Maine in the United States. It begins at the junction of Haley Brook and Paine Brook in the northern part of the town of Brownfield and flows northeast, entering the town of Fryeburg just before its mouth at the Saco.

Brownfield is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,631 at the 2020 census. Brownfield is home to the Stone Mountain Arts Center.

Lovewell Pond is a sizable body of water located in southeastern Fryeburg, Maine. It has a moderately developed shoreline with approximately 75-80 buildings, not including approximately 35 others with access rights to the pond's shoreline.Lovewell Pond is the second largest pond in Oxford County. It is about 1,120 acres (450 ha), slightly smaller than Kezar Pond, which is about 1,299 acres (526 ha). Lovewell Pond does, however, fluctuate largely in size due to its annual flooding phenomenon. It is the drainage basin for many small streams including Fight Brook and Mill/Wards Brook, but mainly the Saco River, which acts as both an inlet and outlet for the pond. When the Saco River floods, the water, which normally flows out, reverses direction and flows into the pond, causing it to rise. Lovewell Pond has an actual drainage area of about 3,101 acres (1,255 ha). This flooding is an unusual characteristic for a pond. Lovewell Pond has a maximum depth of 45 feet (14 m) during dry season, but can increase by as much as 10 feet (3.0 m), depending on how high the water rises during rainy periods. The water is normally lowest in the summer (August) and highest in the spring (April).

Eastern Slope Regional Airport (IATA: FRY, ICAO: KIZG, FAA LID: IZG), also known as Fryeburg Airport, is a public airport located three miles (4.8 km) southeast of the central business district of Fryeburg, a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. It is owned by the Town of Fryeburg. The airport is accessible from ME-5 in Fryeburg and Brownfield, Maine. It is very close to Conway, New Hampshire. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, Eastern Slope Regional Airport is assigned IZG by the FAA and FRY by the IATA.

The Tenmile River is an 8.6-mile-long (13.8 km) river in the towns of Hiram and Brownfield in western Maine in the United States. It is a tributary of the Saco River, which flows to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Battle of Pequawket (also known as Lovewell's Fight) occurred on May 9, 1725 (O.S.), during Father Rale's War in northern New England. Captain John Lovewell led a privately organized company of scalp hunters, organized into a makeshift ranger company, and Chief Paugus led the Abenaki at Pequawket, the site of present-day Fryeburg, Maine. The battle was related to the expansion of New England settlements along the Kennebec River (in present-day Maine). The battle was the last major engagement between the English and the Wabanaki Confederacy in Governor Dummer's War. The fight was celebrated in song and story for at least several generations and became an important part of regional lore—even influencing the stories of Nathaniel Hawthorne in the early 19th century as well as other writers. Its importance is often exaggerated in local histories, as arguably the August 1724 English raid on Norridgewock was probably more significant for the direction of the conflict and in bringing the Abenaki to the treaty table. But the Norridgewock raid, also celebrated in song and poetry, has been less well remembered, probably because it was essentially a massacre of Indian civilians by New England forces.

Stone Mountain Arts Center (SMAC), located in Brownfield, Maine, is an intimate performance hall situated in the foothills of the White Mountains. Despite its small size and remote location, artists who have performed there include Richie Havens, The Indigo Girls, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Martin Sexton, Marty Stuart, and Tom Rush, among others.Folk singer/songwriter Carol Noonan owns and operates the center, along with her husband Jeff Flagg.

Moose Pond is located in the towns of Bridgton, Denmark and Sweden, in the state of Maine. Camp Winona, a camp for boys, Camp Wyonegonic, a camp for girls, and Pleasant Mountain Ski Area, a ski resort, are located on the pond.

Fryeburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Fryeburg in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,444 at the 2020 census.

Denmark is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,197 at the 2020 census. A number of ponds and lakes are located within the town.

Fryeburg Academy is a private secondary school located in Fryeburg, Maine. The academy was founded in 1792, making it the oldest high school in Maine and one of the oldest private schools in the United States. Daniel Webster was one of the first administrators, teaching at the school for a year.Boarding students come from across the United States, North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Academy also serves as the high school for the MSAD 72 school district. Around 75% of the school's student population comes from the local school district.

Pleasant Mountain is located in Bridgton and Denmark, Maine, in the United States. Over 2,000 acres on the east side of Pleasant Mountain is owned and managed by Loon Echo Land Trust. The Trust also maintains the 10-mile trail network on the mountain. Pleasant Mountain Ski Area is located on the north side of the mountain. The northern slope of the Pleasant Mountain is also the highest point in Cumberland County, Maine.
