Little Saco River

The Shepards River is a 13.6-mile-long (21.9 km) river in western Maine and eastern New Hampshire in the United States. It is part of the Saco River drainage basin. The Shepards River rises in the town of Conway, New Hampshire, south of Dundee Hill and north of Crown Hill, among foothills of the White Mountains. The river flows southeast across a corner of Eaton, New Hampshire, then turns northeast into Brownfield, Maine, passing the villages of West Brownfield, Brownfield, and East Brownfield before reaching the Saco River east of Frost Mountain. Several species of game fish have been caught in the Shepards River, including brook trout, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and atlantic salmon.

Lovewell Pond is a sizable body of water located in southeastern Fryeburg, Maine. It has a moderately developed shoreline with approximately 75-80 buildings, not including approximately 35 others with access rights to the pond's shoreline.Lovewell Pond is the second largest pond in Oxford County. It is about 1,120 acres (450 ha), slightly smaller than Kezar Pond, which is about 1,299 acres (526 ha). Lovewell Pond does, however, fluctuate largely in size due to its annual flooding phenomenon. It is the drainage basin for many small streams including Fight Brook and Mill/Wards Brook, but mainly the Saco River, which acts as both an inlet and outlet for the pond. When the Saco River floods, the water, which normally flows out, reverses direction and flows into the pond, causing it to rise. Lovewell Pond has an actual drainage area of about 3,101 acres (1,255 ha). This flooding is an unusual characteristic for a pond. Lovewell Pond has a maximum depth of 45 feet (14 m) during dry season, but can increase by as much as 10 feet (3.0 m), depending on how high the water rises during rainy periods. The water is normally lowest in the summer (August) and highest in the spring (April).

Eastern Slope Regional Airport (IATA: FRY, ICAO: KIZG, FAA LID: IZG), also known as Fryeburg Airport, is a public airport located three miles (4.8 km) southeast of the central business district of Fryeburg, a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. It is owned by the Town of Fryeburg. The airport is accessible from ME-5 in Fryeburg and Brownfield, Maine. It is very close to Conway, New Hampshire. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, Eastern Slope Regional Airport is assigned IZG by the FAA and FRY by the IATA.

The Battle of Pequawket (also known as Lovewell's Fight) occurred on May 9, 1725 (O.S.), during Father Rale's War in northern New England. Captain John Lovewell led a privately organized company of scalp hunters, organized into a makeshift ranger company, and Chief Paugus led the Abenaki at Pequawket, the site of present-day Fryeburg, Maine. The battle was related to the expansion of New England settlements along the Kennebec River (in present-day Maine). The battle was the last major engagement between the English and the Wabanaki Confederacy in Governor Dummer's War. The fight was celebrated in song and story for at least several generations and became an important part of regional lore—even influencing the stories of Nathaniel Hawthorne in the early 19th century as well as other writers. Its importance is often exaggerated in local histories, as arguably the August 1724 English raid on Norridgewock was probably more significant for the direction of the conflict and in bringing the Abenaki to the treaty table. But the Norridgewock raid, also celebrated in song and poetry, has been less well remembered, probably because it was essentially a massacre of Indian civilians by New England forces.

Brownfield is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,631 at the 2020 census. Brownfield is home to the Stone Mountain Arts Center.

Fryeburg Academy is a private secondary school located in Fryeburg, Maine. The academy was founded in 1792, making it the oldest high school in Maine and one of the oldest private schools in the United States. Daniel Webster was one of the first administrators, teaching at the school for a year.Boarding students come from across the United States, North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Academy also serves as the high school for the MSAD 72 school district. Around 75% of the school's student population comes from the local school district.

The Squire Chase House is a historic house on Main Street in Fryeburg, Maine. The oldest portion of this house, now a portion of the elongated ell attached to the main block, was built c. 1767 by Nathaniel Merrill, one of the early settlers of Fryeburg after its land was granted to Joseph Frye in 1762. It was sold in 1799 to James Osgood, the son of another early settler. Stephen and Mary (Osgood) Chase inherited this property in 1824, and moved the main block of the house across the street to its present location, and attached the older house to it. The exterior of this house was Federal in styling, although its interior is now Greek Revival in character.The property was acquired in 1854 by David R. Hastings, who extended the main block's eaves, adding the brackets and cupola of the then-fashionable Italianate style. In 1908 the house was purchased Hattie Pike, a descendant of James Osgood, and was reported in 1979 to still be in the Pike family.The main block of the house connected via the ell to a 19th-century barn. A single-story porch extends across the south side of the house, and another extends across much of the eastern face of the ell.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located on the northwest side of Main Street, just south of its junction with Bridgton Road, and opposite part of the campus of the Fryeburg Academy.

The Church of the New Jerusalem, now known as The Fryeburg New Church, is a congregation of The New Church (Swedenborgianism) at 12 Oxford Street in Fryeburg, Maine. The historic church building is a Stick style structure designed by Portland architect, Charles H. Kimball, and built in 1878. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Barrows-Steadman Homestead is a historic house at the northeast corner of Main and Stuart Streets in Fryeburg, Maine, United States. Built c. 1809, this frame house is a good vernacular example of Federal architecture, but is most notable for the murals painted on the walls of one of its bedrooms by Rufus Porter and Jonathan Poor, noted itinerant painters of the 19th century. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Fryeburg is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,369 at the 2020 census. Fryeburg is home to Fryeburg Academy, a semi-private preparatory school, and the International Musical Arts Institute. The town is also site of the Fryeburg Fair, which each October attracts approximately 300,000 visitors.

The Public Library of Fryeburg, Maine is located at 515 Main Street. The library is located in a stone building, which was built in 1832 as the District No. 1 Schoolhouse, and is one of only two known 19th-century stone schoolhouses in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
