Langsett Reservoir

Langsett is a village and civil parish near Penistone in South Yorkshire. It lies near the southern edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and on the edge of the Peak District National Park. At the 2001 census it had a population of 161, increasing to 222 at the 2011 Census.In the early Medieval period, Langsett was known as Penisale. It held a royal charter entitling it to hold a weekly market on Tuesdays and an annual three-day fair, but these were held somewhere in the country rather than in the village itself. The market charter was later used to start a market in Penistone.A tradition associates the location of Penisale market with a cross near the junction of Cross Lane and Hartcliffe Road. This theory is rejected by Neville T. Sharpe, who holds that this was a wayside cross used as a guide by travellers.In chronostratigraphy, the British sub-stage of the Carboniferous period, the 'Langsettian' derives its name from a study of geological exposures in the banks of the Little Don River near Langsett.The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the village.

Upper Midhope (archaic Over Midhope) is a village in the civil parish of Bradfield within the Stocksbridge and Upper Don electoral ward in the borough of the City of Sheffield, England. It lies just on the edge of the Peak District national park. Historically the habitation, together with Nether Midhope (Midhopestones), were collectively known as Midhope.

The Hartcliff Folly (or Tower) is a stone structure 1.2 miles (2 km) south-west of Penistone in South Yorkshire, England. The folly was built in 1856 by a linen merchant called Henry Richardson and stands at 1,175 feet (358 m) above sea level. Richardson also built Hartcliffe Lodge before becoming the first Mayor of the borough of Barnsley. The tower may be a Folly (a structure built for no reason other than to demonstrate the social and economic status of its owner), but it has an internal spiral staircase and some believe that it was used as a viewing platform for game shooting. Another idea is that it was used as a look out for Mr. Richardson returning from Manchester on business.The furthest landmark visible from the tower is Hawkstone Park in Shropshire (60 miles away).The Folly had fallen into disrepair but was restored in 2002 by Mr. Jeff Pears, upon whose land it is sited. He rebuilt it at his own expense as a gift to the community of Penistone. It has since occasionally been open to the public, such as on 1 August 2006 when Penistone hosted the 'Yorkshire Day' celebrations.

Millhouse Green is a village on the north banks of the River Don on the A628 road west of Penistone in the English county of South Yorkshire. Administratively, Millhouse Green forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and Penistone civil parish. The village falls within the Penistone West Ward of the Barnsley MBC.

Catshaw is a hamlet in the western parts of Penistone, in the Barnsley district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. It lies about 0.9 miles (1.4 km) west of Millhouse Green, on the outskirts of the Peak District. It is south of the B6106 road and 0.3 miles (0.5 km) north of the River Don.

Hazlehead Bridge railway station was a railway station on the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway's Woodhead Line. It served villages scattered over a wide area of South Yorkshire, England, and was adjacent to the bridge over the Huddersfield Road.

Midhopestones (archaic Nether Midhope, also Middup, or Middop) is a village in the civil parish of Bradfield within the Stocksbridge and Upper Don electoral ward in the borough of the City of Sheffield, England. Together with the nearby hamlet of Upper Midhope the two habitations have been collectively known as Midhope.

St James’ Church, Midhopestones is situated in the small rural hamlet of Midhopestones, just within the northern boundary of the City of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. Since April 1969 it has been a Grade II* listed building. St James is small church which is often referred to as a chapel, in fact it is situated on Chapel Lane. The church is officially dedicated to James the Less and not James the Greater although there has always been some confusion. Some modern historians and clergy maintain that the church should be dedicated to James the Greater as the scallop shells carved above the church door are the traditional emblem of James the Greater. It is possible that it was re-dedicated to James the Less in the Victorian era because of the smallness of the church. The church is in the Parish of Penistone within the Diocese of Wakefield.

The Royd Moor Wind Farm is located at Penistone, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, and consists of thirteen 450 kW turbines. The site is located approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north west of Penistone, above the A628 trunk road between Barnsley and Manchester. The turbines are set in two parallel, staggered rows of six and seven, on a ridge in hilly fell land lying 320 metres (1,050 ft) above sea level. These turbines were completed in 1993 and are 35 metres (115 ft) in height to the hub and have a rotor diameter of 37 metres (121 ft). The maximum output is 6 mW, equivalent to the annual energy required to power 3,300 homes.The original planning application was for a 25-year operation but this has been extended to 30 years. Currently, the farm is due to be decommissioned in 2023.

Margery Hill is a 546-metre (1,791 ft) hill on the Howden Moors in South Yorkshire, England. It lies towards the northern boundary of the Peak District National Park, between Langsett Reservoir to the northeast and Howden Reservoir to the southwest. The area is managed by the National Trust as part of their High Peak Estate. Peat near the summit cairn has been dated to a uniform age of about 3,500 years old, indicating that it was constructed rather than natural; it is believed to have been part of a Bronze Age burial mound. The area has been designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument by English Heritage.Margery Hill is the highest marked point within the boundaries of the City of Sheffield. The land rises slightly to 550 metres (1,800 ft) about 0.9 miles (1.5 km) to the south, near High Stones.

Crow Edge is a hamlet in Dunford civil parish, situated on the A616, two miles southeast of Hepworth, West Yorkshire in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in the metropolitan county of South Yorkshire, England. Until 1974 it formed part of Penistone Rural District.

Carlecotes is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Carlecotes is within Dunford civil parish. The village is situated at the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park, approximately 4 miles (6 km) west from Penistone, and just over 1 mile (1.6 km) north from the A628 road. Carlecotes' church, dedicated to St Anne, is in the united benefice of Penistone and Thurlstone, and the Diocese of Sheffield. The church was completed in 1857 as a private chapel to Carlecotes Hall, and is a Grade II listed building. Carlecotes Hall, which dates to the 17th century, is 15 yards (14 m) to the north of the church, and also Grade II listed.
