Royd Moor Wind Farm

Catshaw is a hamlet in the western parts of Penistone, in the Barnsley district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. It lies about 0.9 miles (1.4 km) west of Millhouse Green, on the outskirts of the Peak District. It is south of the B6106 road and 0.3 miles (0.5 km) north of the River Don.

Millhouse Green is a village on the north banks of the River Don on the A628 road west of Penistone in the English county of South Yorkshire. Administratively, Millhouse Green forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and Penistone civil parish. The village falls within the Penistone West Ward of the Barnsley MBC.

Ingbirchworth is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth and is on the boundary of Kirklees in West Yorkshire. At the 2001 Census, the parish had a population of 400, increasing to 460 at the 2011 Census, and now estimated to be around 600. The village is notable for its reservoir, the eldest of the three situated in the area (the others being Royd Moor and Scout Dike). During extreme droughts in the summer the reservoir has been known to dry out to the extent that the old bridge over the original stream, Summer Ford Bridge, can be seen. Development is mostly laid out along two lines: older houses and farms along the former turnpike of Huddersfield Road (the A629) and newer housing estates along Wellthorne Lane. It has one pub, The Fountain Inn, which reopened in 2021 having been saved from demolition. There is an agricultural supplies and hardware shop on the edge of the village on Huddersfield Road. The Grange is the oldest extant building in the village, dating to 1624. This and a number of other properties in the older part of the village are Grade II listed.

Hazlehead Bridge railway station was a railway station on the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway's Woodhead Line. It served villages scattered over a wide area of South Yorkshire, England, and was adjacent to the bridge over the Huddersfield Road.

Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth is a civil parish in the Barnsley district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. It contains the hamlet of Gunthwaite and the village of Ingbirchworth.

Birdsedge (or Birds Edge) is a small village in the borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England, on the edge of Yorkshire's Pennine Hills, standing just below 1,000 feet (305 m) above sea level. It is approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-east from Huddersfield and about 4 miles (6 km) north-west from Penistone, between the villages of Shepley and Upper Cumberworth and is linked with the neighbouring hamlet of High Flatts, a former Quaker settlement (and still home to a Friends Meeting House). Though originally an area of upland farms, woollen weaving and stone quarries, it is now a dormitory village for nearby towns and cities of Huddersfield, Barnsley, Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. Although the village has no industry it hosts Birdsedge First School, Birdsedge Wesleyan Reform Church and Birdsedge Village Hall. A mill operates in the village, part of the Z Hinchliffe mill complex located in the nearby village of Denby Dale.

Crow Edge is a hamlet in Dunford civil parish, situated on the A616, two miles southeast of Hepworth, West Yorkshire in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in the metropolitan county of South Yorkshire, England. Until 1974 it formed part of Penistone Rural District.

The Hartcliff Folly (or Tower) is a stone structure 1.2 miles (2 km) south-west of Penistone in South Yorkshire, England. The folly was built in 1856 by a linen merchant called Henry Richardson and stands at 1,175 feet (358 m) above sea level. Richardson also built Hartcliffe Lodge before becoming the first Mayor of the borough of Barnsley. The tower may be a Folly (a structure built for no reason other than to demonstrate the social and economic status of its owner), but it has an internal spiral staircase and some believe that it was used as a viewing platform for game shooting. Another idea is that it was used as a look out for Mr. Richardson returning from Manchester on business.The furthest landmark visible from the tower is Hawkstone Park in Shropshire (60 miles away).The Folly had fallen into disrepair but was restored in 2002 by Mr. Jeff Pears, upon whose land it is sited. He rebuilt it at his own expense as a gift to the community of Penistone. It has since occasionally been open to the public, such as on 1 August 2006 when Penistone hosted the 'Yorkshire Day' celebrations.

Langsett is a village and civil parish near Penistone in South Yorkshire. It lies near the southern edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and on the edge of the Peak District National Park. At the 2001 census it had a population of 161, increasing to 222 at the 2011 Census.In the early Medieval period, Langsett was known as Penisale. It held a royal charter entitling it to hold a weekly market on Tuesdays and an annual three-day fair, but these were held somewhere in the country rather than in the village itself. The market charter was later used to start a market in Penistone.A tradition associates the location of Penisale market with a cross near the junction of Cross Lane and Hartcliffe Road. This theory is rejected by Neville T. Sharpe, who holds that this was a wayside cross used as a guide by travellers.In chronostratigraphy, the British sub-stage of the Carboniferous period, the 'Langsettian' derives its name from a study of geological exposures in the banks of the Little Don River near Langsett.The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the village.

Upper Cumberworth is a small village in West Yorkshire, England, within the civil parish of Denby Dale and the Diocese of Wakefield. It is between the villages of Denby Dale and Shepley, above the village of Lower Cumberworth. It occupies a rural location, surrounded by fields and woodland but close to Huddersfield, Barnsley, Wakefield and Sheffield by public transport or road. The 2001 Census gave the population of Upper Cumberworth and Lower Cumberworth combined as 1,222.

Upper Denby is a small village within the civil parish of Denby Dale, and the borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. Lying 11 miles (17 km) to the south-east of Huddersfield and 2 miles (3 km) south of Denby Dale, on an east facing slope of the Pennines, it occupies a position 820 feet (250 m) above sea level. The southern edge of the village is bordered by the Metropolitan borough of Barnsley within the county of South Yorkshire.

Langsett Reservoir is in Yorkshire, England, near the villages of Langsett and Upper Midhope, on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The reservoir was constructed between 1898 and 1904, and is now managed by Yorkshire Water. Fed by the Little Don or Porter River, it is around a mile long, and supplies water for Sheffield and Barnsley via the Langsett Treatment Works.
