The Hand and Shears is a Grade II listed public house at 1 Middle Street, Smithfield, London.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the early-mid 19th century.It was named after the former Bartholomew Fair, held at Smithfield for centuries, at which the Lord Mayor of London would come and cut a piece of cloth with a pair of shears to announce that the fair had begun.

The Worshipful Company of Founders is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London, England. The Founders, or workers in brass and bronze, were incorporated under a Royal Charter in 1614. However, with the development of technology, the ancient craft grew obsolete. Now, the Company exists, along with a majority of Livery Companies, as a charitable foundation. It also supports the foundry industry by awarding research grants and scholarships. The Founders' Company ranks thirty-third in the order of precedence of Livery Companies. Its motto is God, The Only Founder. It had an early association with Saint Clement, having either been named the Fraternity of St Clement, or having had that organization as part of its body.

The Worshipful Company of Butchers is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London, England. Records indicate that an organisation of butchers existed as early as 975; the Butchers' Guild, the direct predecessor of the present Company, was granted the right to regulate the trade in 1331. The Butchers' Guild was incorporated by Royal Charter centuries later, in 1605. The Butchers' still, unlike other Livery Companies, continues to exist as a trade association for members of the industry, instead of evolving into an institution primarily dedicated to charity. However, the Company does contribute, like all Livery Companies, to various charities. The Company ranks twenty-fourth in the order of precedence of City Livery Companies. The Company's motto is: Omnia Subiecisti Sub Pedibus, Oves Et Boves, from the Book of Psalms and Latin for: Thou Hast Put All Things Under Man's Feet, All Sheep and Oxen.

Barbican is a London Underground station situated near the Barbican Estate, on the edge of the ward of Farringdon Within, in the City of London in Central London. It has been known by various names since its opening in 1865, mostly in reference to the neighbouring ward of Aldersgate. The station is served by the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines, and is situated between Farringdon and Moorgate stations, in Travelcard Zone 1. Until 2009, Barbican was additionally served by Thameslink services to and from Moorgate.

Long Lane is a street in the City of London, the historic and primary financial centre of London. It runs east–west and forms part of the B100 route. At the western end it becomes West Smithfield and in the east it becomes Beech Street, at the junction with Aldersgate Street. The street is particularly known for drinking and dining, with a pub, The Old Red Cow, at Nos. 71–72, and restaurants Chabrot at Nos. 62-63 and Apulia (formerly Morgan M) at No. 50.

The Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great, sometimes abbreviated to Great St Bart's, is a mediaeval church in the Church of England's Diocese of London located in Smithfield within the City of London. The building was founded as an Augustinian priory in 1123. It adjoins St Bartholomew's Hospital of the same foundation.St Bartholomew the Great is so named to distinguish it from its neighbouring smaller church of St Bartholomew the Less which was founded at the same time within the precincts of St Bartholomew's Hospital to serve as the hospital's parish church and occasional place of worship. The two parish churches were reunited in 2012 under one benefice.

Cloth Fair is a street in the City of London where, in medieval times, merchants gathered to buy and sell material during the Bartholomew Fair. Today, it is a short residential street to the east of Smithfield in the north-western part of the city and is located in the ward of Farringdon Within. The street runs southwest to northeast from Little Britain, parallel to Long Lane to the north and bordered by the Anglican church of St. Bartholomew-the-Great to the south, until it merges with Middle Street some 150 yards later. The street was originally within the precincts of the Priory of St. Bartholomew's, and until 1910 formed a separate liberty, with gates that were shut at night. Such a small area could not meet the demands of installing street lighting and sewers, and rejoined the city. The area has a long history, a varied past and strong literary tradition.It contains within its boundaries the oldest residential dwelling in London (numbers 41 and 42), and a pair of properties administered by the Landmark Trust. One of them (number 43) is the former home of English poet John Betjeman; its door is in Cloth Court off Cloth Fair. A restaurant on the ground floor on Cloth Fair for a time took his name.The City Music Foundation is based in Church House in Cloth Fair.The nearest London Underground station is Barbican (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) and the closest mainline railway station is Farringdon.

The Rising Sun is an historic pub at 38 Cloth Fair in the City of London. It is the only City pub to have been closed then re-opened. John Betjeman was a customer when he lived in nearby Cloth Court.

Rutland House was the name of at least two London houses occupied by the Earls and Dukes of Rutland. That on Aldersgate Street was leased by playwright Sir William Davenant, who converted a room of it into a private theatre in the 1650s. That in Knightsbridge was a six-acre site until its demolition in the 1830s.

200 Aldersgate is a 434,005 sq ft office building in the City of London.Proposed in 1983, designed by the architects Fitzroy Robinson & Partners, and built in 1991-92, the building was the headquarters of legal firm Clifford Chance before it moved to Canary Wharf. It was extensively redeveloped by Helical Bar in 2010, in conjunction with architects Morey Smith. The refurbishment included two large new reception and lobby areas, a cycle store for 220 bicycles with shower and changing facilities and, on the first floor, a new business lounge and café linking the two parts of the building.In 2013, 200 Aldersgate was purchased by AshbyCapital, a real estate investment advisory firm, which sold the property to Samsung SRA in 2018.200 Aldersgate is recognisable by the neon artworks in its front windows. Measuring 2.5m in diameter, 'Revolution - in two parts' by Rob and Nick Carter, was commissioned by 200 Aldersgate in 2010.200 Aldersgate is also known as one of three landmarks forming Stand Up To Cancer's London 3 Peaks Challenge. In 2014, 400 participants in the first ever challenge scaled The Gherkin and Heron Tower, before abseiling 56 metres down the outside of 200 Aldersgate.

Citizens Advice (previously Citizens Advice Bureau and also known as Cyngor ar Bopeth in Welsh) is an independent organisation specialising in confidential information and advice to assist people with legal, debt, consumer, housing and other problems in the United Kingdom.The twin aims of the Citizens Advice service are "to provide the advice people need for the problems they face" and secondly "to improve the policies and principles that affect people's lives". This research and campaigns agenda also known as "social policy" is more preventative in nature and designed to stop problems arising in the first place. Citizens Advice organisations emerged in the 1930s linked to the emergence of a fledgling social welfare service and the outbreak of World War II. Public funding for the organisation was cut following the war but restored during the 1960s and a government grant in 1973 allowed the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (NACAB) to expand the charity. Citizens Advice has grown to be the largest independent advice provider in the United Kingdom. There are also a number of Citizens Advice organisations that base themselves on the United Kingdom advice charity mainly in parts of the Commonwealth including Australia, New Zealand, and Gibraltar.In 2013 the Citizens Advice Adviceguide website was visited by one third of United Kingdom's online population and Citizens Advice's own research shows that four in ten of the British population contact Citizens Advice at some point during their lives. In 2014 Citizens Advice celebrated its 75th anniversary and in 2015 the charity was named Charity of the Year at the 2015 Charity Awards. During the ten year leadership of the former Chief Executive Gillian Guy Citizens Advice expanded its remit taking on the contract for the Witness Service and the face-to-face advice element of Pension Wise.
