Grainger High School

The William Cocke House is a historic house registered on the National Register of Historic Places, located along Old U.S. Route 11W near Rutledge, Tennessee. It is locally significant as a reminder of Grainger County's political history, and as an example of the Greek Revival style of architecture displayed in East Tennessee.

The 2018 Southeastern Provisions raid, also known as the 2018 Bean Station ICE Raid and the 2018 Grainger County ICE raid, was a workplace raid that occurred at Southeastern Provisions, a cattle slaughterhouse and meat-packing facility in rural Grainger County, Tennessee, United States, 9 miles (14 km) west of the town of Bean Station.The facility was raided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). 11 workers were arrested and 86 more were detained, all of whom were suspected of residing in the United States unlawfully. As of 2021, the event remains one of the largest workplace raids in United States history.

The Battle of Bean's Station (December 14, 1863) was fought in Grainger County, Tennessee, during the Knoxville campaign of the American Civil War. The action saw Confederate forces commanded by Lieutenant General James Longstreet attack Union Army cavalry led by Brigadier General James M. Shackelford. After a clash that lasted until nightfall, Longstreet's troops compelled the Federals to retreat. Two cavalry columns that were intended to envelop Shackelford's force were unable to cut off the Union cavalry, though one of the columns captured 25 Federal wagons. On December 15, Shackelford was joined by some Union infantry southwest of Bean's Station where they skirmished with the Confederates before withdrawing again. Longstreet's troops began the Siege of Knoxville on November 19. When Major General Ambrose Burnside's garrison was relieved on December 4 by a much larger Union army led by Major General William T. Sherman, Longstreet retreated northeast to Rogersville. The pursuing Union force under Major General John Parke soon halted at Rutledge and Bean's Station. Learning that the bulk of Sherman's army left the area, Longstreet decided to assume the offensive again. He planned to surround and crush Shackelford's cavalry, but the Union cavalry resisted stubbornly, and the Confederate cavalry pincers failed to close. On December 16, Shackelford joined Parke's main Union field force at Blaine's Crossroads. Seeing that his strategy failed, Longstreet withdrew to the northeast.

The 1972 Bean Station bus-truck collision was a head-on collision involving a double-decker Greyhound bus and a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 11W in Grainger County, Tennessee, that occurred near the town of Bean Station on the morning of May 13, 1972. Ultimately resulting in 14 deaths, the collision is the deadliest and one of the worst in the history of Tennessee. The collision led to outcry from politicians and citizens calling for traffic safety and infrastructure improvements, such as highway widenings, and the completion of Interstate 81 in Tennessee.

Cherokee Lake, also known as Cherokee Reservoir, is an artificial reservoir in the U.S. state of Tennessee formed by the impoundment of the Holston River behind Cherokee Dam.

Panther Creek State Park is a state park in Morristown, Tennessee, United States. It is located prominently on the shore of Cherokee Lake, an impoundment of the Holston River, via the Cherokee Dam. The western terminus of Tennessee State Route 342 is located inside the park. The route connects the park to U.S. Route 11E (also known as Andrew Johnson Highway). The park has an area of approximately 1,444 acres (6 km2).

Tate Springs was a historic world-class luxury resort complex located on U.S. Route 11W in Bean Station, Tennessee, United States. Known for its mineral spring water shipped internationally, it was considered to be one of the most popular resorts of its time in the Southern United States, and was visited by many wealthy and prominent families such as the Ford, Rockefeller, Firestone, Studebaker, and Mellon families. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1963, and the only remnants of the complex are the cabins of the site, the pool bathhouse, and the springhouse, the last of which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Cherokee (also known as Cherokee Village) is an unincorporated community in southern Grainger County, Tennessee.It is located at the intersection of Tennessee State Routes 92 and 375 near TVA's Cherokee Dam.

Big Spring Union Church, also known as Big Springs Primitive Baptist Church, is a historic church in Springdale, Claiborne County, Tennessee. The church was built circa 1795 or 1796, and was known at first as Big Spring Meetinghouse. A Baptist church was organized at the site in 1800. During the Civil War, it served as a hospital for both Confederate and Union Army troops. It is one of the oldest church buildings in Tennessee that is still in active use as a church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The church is on Lone Mountain Road, off Tennessee State Route 32. The Tennessee State Library and Archives holds a copy of the records of Big Spring Primitive Baptist Church for the years 1800 through 1948.
