Northcote Lodge School is an independent preparatory school for boys aged 8–13 in Wandsworth Common, South London. The school is owned by Malcolm and Katharine Colquhoun. The school's premises at 26 Bolingbroke Grove are the former location of Linden Lodge School for the Blind. Northcote Lodge is part of Northwood Schools, the family of schools comprising Broomwood Hall Lower School (boys and girls 4-8), Broomwood Hall Upper School (girls 8-13) and Northwood Senior (co-ed, 11-16) which opened in September 2020 at Garrad's Road, Streatham, SW16. Entry to Northcote Lodge is primarily via Broomwood Hall - there is also a 7+ entry and Academic and Music scholarships via Broomwood for boys interested in moving on to Northcote - but there are always some places for external candidates at 8. The school also has some places at 11+ for boys who are looking to move on to a boarding school at 13.

The Royal Victoria Patriotic Building is a large Victorian building in a Gothic Revival style combining Scottish Baronial and French Châteauesque. It is located off Trinity Road in Wandsworth, London. It was built in 1859 as the Royal Victoria Patriotic School, by popular subscription as an asylum for girls orphaned during the Crimean War. It is a Grade II* Listed Building designed by the architect Major Rohde Hawkins.

Emanuel School is an independent, co-educational day school in Battersea, south-west London. The school was founded in 1594 by Anne Sackville, Lady Dacre and Queen Elizabeth I and occupies a 12-acre (4.9 ha) site close to Clapham Junction railway station. Northcote Road is a shopping street In Battersea, south London, which stretches over half a mile. It is close to Clapham Junction station. It is the epicentre of the so-called 'Nappy Valley', named because of the young, affluent and productive demographic and also because the road lies over a culverted stream (the Falconbrook) giving it a low-lying position between the two commons of Wandsworth and Clapham (rising to the west and east respectively). As well as many cafes and shops, Northcote Road has an historic food market which dates back to the 1860s, as well as the indoor Northcote Road Antiques Market. However, as with the vast majority of street markets, Northcote Road is a mere shadow of itself, being much smaller size, and more specialised in what its stalls offer, reflecting the changing demographics of the local area.

St Mary's Cemetery is a cemetery opened in 1860 in Wandsworth, London. It was established by St Mary's Burial Board in part of Wandsworth Common. It has also been known as Battersea St Mary's Cemetery and Battersea Rise Cemetery. Its burial land was exhausted in the 1960s. There is a small chapel where services can be conducted. It is owned by the London Borough of Wandsworth. Notable burials include: John Burns, trade unionist and politician, MP for Battersea Sir William Anderson Rose, Lord Mayor of London, MP for Southampton William Taylor, headmaster of Sir Walter St John's Grammar School For Boys for 34 years from 1873 to 1907The cemetery contains the war graves of 15 British service personnel from World War I and 3 from World War II.

The Clapham Junction railway crash occurred on the morning of 12 December 1988, when a crowded British Rail passenger train crashed into the rear of another train that had stopped at a signal just south of Clapham Junction railway station in London, England, and subsequently sideswiped an empty train travelling in the opposite direction. A total of 35 people died in the collision, while 484 were injured.The collision was the result of a signal failure caused by a wiring fault. New wiring had been installed, but the old wiring had been left in place and not adequately secured. An independent inquiry chaired by Anthony Hidden, QC found that the signalling technician responsible had not been told that his working practices were wrong, and his work had not been inspected by an independent person. He had also performed the work during his 13th consecutive seven-day workweek. Hidden was critical of the health and safety culture within British Rail at the time, and his recommendations included ensuring that work was independently inspected and that a senior project manager be made responsible for all aspects of any major, safety-critical project such as re-signalling work. British Rail was fined £250,000 for violations of health and safety law in connection with the accident.
