Toulouse chemical factory explosion

AZF (French initialism for AZote Fertilisant, i.e. nitrogen fertiliser) was the name of a chemical factory in Toulouse, France, which exploded on 21 September 2001. The blast was equivalent to 20-40 tons of TNT, producing an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4, and was heard 80 km away (50 miles). The incident resulted in 29 deaths and left 2,500 wounded. Damages paid by insurance companies exceeded 1.5 billion euros. Although authorities initially treated the incident as an accident, the then Environment Minister speculated that the explosion may have been "a terrorist attack" in the wake of the September 11 attacks. The body of a worker known to harbor Islamic fundamentalist sympathies was found in the blast and investigated, although official investigation found the blast to be accidental. In spring of 2004, a terrorist group adopted the same name and threatened the French government with bombings.

The Campus de cancérologie de Toulouse (Oncopole de Toulouse), is a cancer research center with a European dimension. Located in the south of Toulouse, in the Lafourguette district, on the symbolic site of the explosion of the AZF factory in 2001, the campus welcomes private and public actors with the aim of harmonizing their research for the fight against cancer.The campus is developed by the Toulouse Métropole, in partnership with the general council of Haute-Garonne, the regional council of Occitania, the State and Europe. The building has been designed by the architect Yann Padlewski from the Jean-Paul Viguier architectural firm.

The Great Mosque of Toulouse (French: Grande Mosquée de Toulouse) is a mosque in the French city of Toulouse. It opened in 2018. The mosque is located in the Empalot neighbourhood in the south of the city and has a capacity of 3,000. The funds for the €6 million project came mainly from a 13-year campaign by the nearby Al-Nour Mosque, itself established in 1989. Additions came from the French state, Algeria (€213,000) and Kuwait (€131,000). The imam, Mohamed Tataï, turned down donations from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2006 and 2007.The building has three prayer halls, one of which is reserved for women, and a Quranic school. It is decorated with Tunisian marble, rugs and doors from Turkey, Egyptian chandeliers and Moroccan stucco. On the exterior, there is a gilded dome and a minaret. The architect was Christian Barthe.

Stadium de Toulouse is the largest multi-purpose stadium in Toulouse, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches, mainly those of the Toulouse Football Club, as well as rugby matches for Stade Toulousain in the European Rugby Champions Cup or Top 14. It is a pure football and rugby ground, and therefore has no athletics track surrounding the field. The stadium is able to hold 33,150 people.The stadium was built in 1937 for the 1938 FIFA World Cup (but again under construction, the World Cup matches were playing in the Stade du T.O.E.C., 4 kilometers further North) and has undergone two extensive renovations, in 1949 and 1997. The stadium staged six matches during the 1998 FIFA World Cup.It was also used as a host venue during the 2007 Rugby World Cup for games such as Japan-Fiji, won by the latter 35–31. On 13 November 2009 the stadium hosted international rugby again when France hosted South Africa.
