Holloway Down

West Ham Union Workhouse was a workhouse in Leytonstone, built in the village of Holloway Down between 1839 and 1841 and run by the West Ham Poor Law Union. That Union covered several parishes in what is now Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. West Ham Borough Council took over its running in 1930 and renamed it the Central Home Public Assistance Institution (or Central Home for short), using it as a home for the infirm, aged and chronically sick. In 1948 it formally became a National Health Service hospital under the name of the Langthorne Hospital, which remained open until 1999.The workhouse's main original block, its chapel and its lodge are all Grade II listed buildings, whilst the workhouse and hospital lands have been redeveloped.

It was suburban to London, forming part of the London postal district and Metropolitan Police District. It now forms the southernmost part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest in Greater London.

St Patrick's Roman Catholic Cemetery is a cemetery located in Waltham Forest, London. The cemetery is crossed by tarmac roadways and paths, with trees planted throughout including mature oak, poplar, Lombardy poplar, plane and sycamore. There are a number of fine monuments, including the striking modernist Ferrari mausoleum. It dates from 1965, and commemorates Lucia Ferrari, “Mamma adorabile”.

West Ham Jewish Cemetery is a cemetery for Jews in West Ham in the London Borough of Newham, England. It was established in 1856 by the New Synagogue on Great St. Helen's, soon joined by the Great Synagogue in Duke's Place, both of them London congregations.There are a number of notable people buried here, in a graveyard visually dominated by the imposing Rothschild Mausoleum. One section contains graves removed to this burial place from the former Hoxton burial ground of the Hambro Synagogue when that site underwent urban redevelopment. The oldest legible tombstone in this section dates from 1794.

St Paul's Church, Stratford is a Church of England church in Stratford, London. It had its origins in a Sunday School opened in Stratford New Town by a City Missionary around 1850, for which a building was constructed on Queen Street by Samuel Gurney in 1853, within the parish of St John's Church, Stratford. St John's vicar William Holloway was ambivalent about the mission and so friction arose when the vicar of All Saints, A J Ram, bought a site for the mission to build a church, initially an iron hall in 1859 and a permanent church in 1864, both dedicated to St Paul. The latter was built with assistance from Thomas Fowell Buxton and Raymond Pelly. The permanent church was then assigned a separate parish in 1865, split from that of St John's. The church was destroyed by a V-weapon in 1945, but was replaced by a new building, consecrated in 1953.St Paul's parish opened a mission church of St Mark to provide services for factory girls, opening in 1877, building a permanent building in 1891, suffering bomb damage and finally being sold to the Methodist Church after 1945. Its parish is now known as 'St Paul and St James, Stratford', after the congregation of St James' Church, Forest Gate moved from St John's to St Paul's in 2014 (the former parish area of St James' instead moved to St Saviour's, also in 2014.

Cann Hall is a ward, and former civil parish, in the south of Leytonstone in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It is north of Stratford and Forest Gate, east of Leyton, and west of Wanstead Flats, the southernmost tip of Epping Forest.

Maryland railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line serving the Maryland area of the London Borough of Newham, east London. It is 4 miles 39 chains (7.2 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Stratford and Forest Gate. Its three-letter station code is MYL and it is in fare zone 3. The station was opened in 1873 as Maryland Point by the Great Eastern Railway. It was renamed Maryland in 1940. It is currently managed by Transport for London and is on the Elizabeth line between Shenfield and London Paddington. By May 2023, the Elizabeth line service will be extended beyond Paddington to Reading and Heathrow Airport.

The Cart and Horses is a pub in Stratford, London, next to Maryland railway station. Established in the early 19th century, it was an early venue for the rock band Iron Maiden and strongly identified with the group.

Buxton School (formerly Cann Hall Primary School and Tom Hood School) is a mixed all-through school located in Leytonstone, London, England.The school was formed on 1 January 2010 from an amalgamation of Cann Hall Primary School and Tom Hood School. It currently educates pupils aged 3 to 16.

Leytonstone High Road is a railway station in Leytonstone in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, on the Gospel Oak to Barking line, 9 miles 76 chains (16.0 km) down the line from Gospel Oak and situated between Leyton Midland Road and Wanstead Park. It has two platforms that are elevated approximately 20 feet (6 m) above ground level, each of which contains a metal shelter, covered but not completely enclosed. Ticket machines and Oyster validators (for touching in and out) are installed under the arch at the foot of the stairs. Although the railway crosses over the London Underground's Central line almost immediately north west of the station, there is no direct interchange; Leytonstone station is about a 10-minute walk away. Despite the distance, travellers using Oyster cards can make the interchange as part of a single journey.
