It extends over 531 hectares (1,310 acres) of which 84 hectares (210 acres) are green spaces. The most important public green space is the Plage Bleue Park where different events are organized every year. Among them, we have the Festival de l’Oh focused on environmental issues dealing with aquatic resources. Valenton is surrounded by the towns of Choisy-le-Roi, Créteil, Crosne, Limeil-Brévannes, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges and Yerres. The town can be reached through the motorway A86 and the main road RN6. It is connected to the suburban rail network with the RER line D (Villeneuve Triage and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the two closest stations) or RER line A at Boissy-Saint-Léger.

It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of US Créteil-Lusitanos. The stadium was built with an original capacity of approximately 6,000. It increased its capacity to 12,150 people in February 2006.Its record attendance for a league match was for a match between Créteil and Saint Etienne on 5 August 2001 with 6325 spectators. The record for a cup match is 8000 in a match hosted there by amateur team US Lusitanos Saint-Maur against Bordeaux in the round of 32 of the French Cup on 19 January 2002.

Créteil–Préfecture (French pronunciation: ​[kʁetɛj pʁefɛktyʁ]) is a station on line 8 of the Paris Métro in the commune of Créteil. It was the eastern terminus of the line and is on the surface. The station opened on 10 September 1974 with the extension of the line from Créteil–L'Échat. Its name refers to the nearby prefecture (administrative headquarters of the department) of the Val-de-Marne. The 40 hectares (99 acres) Créteil lake was opened nearby in 1970 in a former quarry. Créteil–Préfecture became a through station when line 8 was extended 1.3 km east to Pointe du Lac on 8 October 2011.
