Neusiedl am See

Kalvarienberg is a nature monument in Neusiedl am See in the state of Burgenland, Austria. The nature monument covers the steep south-eastern slope of the Parndorf Plain, the Wagram.

Parndorf (Hungarian: Pándorfalu, Croatian: Pandrof) is a town in the district of Neusiedl am See in the Austrian state of Burgenland. Its original ancient name Perun is derived from the Slavic deity Perun.

Jois (German pronunciation: [jɔɪ̯s] ; Hungarian: Nyulas) is a small town in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland in Eastern Austria. It is on the northern shore of Lake Neusiedl, which straddles the border with Hungary. The picturesque wine-producing area is popular with tourists, who visit Jois's parish church with its Baroque statues dating back to 1757, the local heritage museum with the district's school museum, wayside shrines, cycling trails, and the wine trail.

On 27 August 2015, the bodies of 71 illegal immigrants were discovered in a lorry on the Ost Autobahn in Burgenland, Austria. The victims were part of the wave of many thousands of migrants who traveled through the western Balkans in an effort to reach Germany. Parndorf Plain (German: Parndorfer Platte, Hungarian: Parndorfi-fennsík, Pándorfalvi-fennsík, Slovak: Parndorfská plošina) also called Parndorf Heath (German: Parndorfer Heide) in the northern part of Burgenland, Austria, at an altitude of 160–180 m, area approx. 200 square kilometres (77 sq mi), with terraced gravel deposited by the River Danube during the Ice Age, situated between Lake Neusiedl and the Leitha Mountains in the southwest and Lower Leitha in the northeast. An almost treeless plain, it is about 30 metres (98 ft) higher than its surroundings, without any rivers or streams. Partly heath land with Pannonian flora and partly arable land. Wine growing on the steep loess slopes facing Lake Neusiedl. All towns are situated at the foot of the scarps. Large-scale dairy farming. The East railway line and the A4 autobahn (opened in Autumn 1994) run through the Parndorf plain. Draw-wells give the landscape a puszta character; Roman roads. Parndorf Plain is among the windiest areas in inland Europe. The almost continuous reign of the north-easterly wind is occasionally interrupted by a gusty south-easterly. On the plain of the Parndorfer Platte the biggest modern wind farms in Austria have been set up.

Bruckneudorf (Hungarian: Királyhida) is a small town in the district of Neusiedl am See in the federal state of Burgenland in Austria, neighbouring Bruck an der Leitha ("Leitha Bridge"). Its name means bridge new village, whereas the Hungarian version means royal bridge, and the royal refers to King Francis I. Historically and geographically, Bruckneudorf represents the extension of the Austrian town of Bruck an der Leitha over the Austrian border into Hungary. This border, symbolised by the river Leitha, separated the Austrian Empire from the Kingdom of Hungary (Cisleithania and Transleithania). Its main current national significance derives from the Bruckneudorf military exercise ground of the Austrian federal army. Currently it is also the site of Bruck an der Leitha railway station, an important railway station near the borders with Hungary and Slovakia, a stop for nearly all the international trains that pass through it.
