Les Abymes

Les Abymes 5th Canton is a former canton in the Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Guadeloupe, which had 8,905 inhabitants in 2012. It comprised part of the commune of Les Abymes and disbanded following the French canton reorganisation of March 2015.

Les Abymes 4th Canton is a former canton in the Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Guadeloupe. It had 14,692 inhabitants (2012). It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The canton comprised part of the commune of Les Abymes.

Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport or Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet Airport (French: Aérodrome de Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet or Aéroport Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes "Caribbean Hub") (IATA: PTP, ICAO: TFFR) is an international airport serving Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe, France. The airport is located in Abymes, 2.4 km (1.3 NM) north-northeast of Pointe-à-Pitre. It is the main hub for Air Caraïbes and Air Antilles Express. Air France also has two Airbus A320 based in Pointe-à-Pitre for regional flights. It is the largest of the six airports in the archipelago. In 2019, the airport handled 2,488,782 passengers; it is the second busiest airport in the Lesser Antilles after Queen Beatrix International Airport located in Aruba, and before Grantley Adams International Airport located in Barbados.

Stade René Serge Nabajoth is a multi-use stadium in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 7,500 people. It is currently the home ground of the Guadeloupe national football team. René-Serge Nabajoth was a past mayor of the commune of Les Abymes.

Boisripeau is a settlement in Guadeloupe in the commune of Les Abymes, on the island of Grande-Terre. Chazeau, Jabrun-du-Sud, and Malignon are to its east.

Communauté d'agglomération CAP Excellence is a communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure in the Guadeloupe overseas department and region of France. Created in 2008, its seat is in Pointe-à-Pitre. Its area is 129.9 km2. Its population was 99,532 in 2019.

The region formerly included Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin, which were detached from Guadeloupe in 2007 following a 2003 referendum. Christopher Columbus visited Guadeloupe in 1493, during his second voyage, and gave the island its name. The official language is French; Antillean Creole is also spoken.

Quatre Chemins is a settlement in Guadeloupe in the commune of Les Abymes, on the island of Grande-Terre. It is located to the west of Malignon, Jabrun-du-Sud, and Chazeau.

The Battle of Guadeloupe or the Action of 21–22 December 1779 was a naval engagement that took place off the French island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean during the American Revolutionary War between three Royal Navy ships and three French Navy frigates. The Royal Navy under Joshua Rowley sighted and promptly chased the French frigates, all of which were captured after a brief fight.
