Communauté d'agglomération CAP Excellence is a communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure in the Guadeloupe overseas department and region of France. Created in 2008, its seat is in Pointe-à-Pitre. Its area is 129.9 km2. Its population was 99,532 in 2019.

Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport or Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet Airport (French: Aérodrome de Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet or Aéroport Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes "Caribbean Hub") (IATA: PTP, ICAO: TFFR) is an international airport serving Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe, France. The airport is located in Abymes, 2.4 km (1.3 NM) north-northeast of Pointe-à-Pitre. It is the main hub for Air Caraïbes and Air Antilles Express. Air France also has two Airbus A320 based in Pointe-à-Pitre for regional flights. It is the largest of the six airports in the archipelago. In 2019, the airport handled 2,488,782 passengers; it is the second busiest airport in the Lesser Antilles after Queen Beatrix International Airport located in Aruba, and before Grantley Adams International Airport located in Barbados.

Baie-Mahault (French pronunciation: [bɛ ma.o]; Guadeloupean Creole: Bémao) is a commune in the overseas department and region of Guadeloupe, France. It is the second most populated commune of Guadeloupe, after Les Abymes. The extensive industrial zone of Jarry in Baie-Mahault is by far the most industrialized commune in the islands and the largest industrial park in the Lesser Antilles. It is part of the urban area of Pointe-à-Pitre, the largest metropolitan area in Guadeloupe, located in the northwest. The inhabitants of Baie-Mahault are called Baie-Mahaultiens.

Although Pointe-à-Pitre is not Guadeloupe's administrative capital (that distinction goes to Basse-Terre), it is nonetheless the region's economic capital. The inhabitants are called "Pointois". In 2018, it had a population of 15,410 in the city (commune) of Pointe-à-Pitre proper and 250,952 inhabitants in the urban unit Pointe-à-Pitre–Les Abymes. It is part of the metropolitan area of Les Abymes. Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport, Guadeloupe's main international airport, is located 3 km (1.9 mi) north of downtown Pointe-à-Pitre in the commune of Les Abymes. Harry Durimel is the current mayor of Pointe-à-Pitre.

Les Abymes (French pronunciation: [lezabim]; Antillean Creole: Zabim) is the most populous commune in the French overseas region and department of Guadeloupe, in the Lesser Antilles. It is located on the west side of the island of Grande-Terre, and is part of the largest metropolitan area of Guadeloupe, which also covers Pointe-à-Pitre.

The arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre is an arrondissement of France in the Guadeloupe department in the Guadeloupe region. It has 14 communes. Its population is 204,900 (2016), and its area is 774.1 km2 (298.9 sq mi).

The siege of Guadeloupe took place from March to May 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession, when an English expeditionary force led by Christopher Codrington landed on Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, and laid siege to the capital of Basse-Terre. Charles Auger, the French governor, received reinforcements from Martinique led by Nicolas de Gabaret. The latter opted for a Fabian strategy and scorched earth tactics, destroying resources and Fort St Charles in the process. A lack of supplies and heavy losses from disease forced the English to lift the siege in May.

Les Abymes 5th Canton is a former canton in the Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Guadeloupe, which had 8,905 inhabitants in 2012. It comprised part of the commune of Les Abymes and disbanded following the French canton reorganisation of March 2015.
