Pen-y-Bont-Fawr (or Penybontfawr) is a small village and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales located in the Tanat valley. In the 2011 UK Census it had a population of 440 with 58% born in England and 39% in Wales (many nearby hospitals are in England).It is in the electoral ward of Llanwddyn. St Thomas's Church was built in 1855 in the Victorian Gothic style. It is a Grade II listed building.Robert Ellis (1812–1875), bardic name Cynddelw, was a Welsh language poet, editor and lexicographer, He was born nearby at Tyn y Meini, Bryndreiniog. Penybontfawr railway station was on the Tanat Valley Light Railway. The station opened in 1904 and closed in 1951.

Pedairffordd Halt railway station (alternatively Pedair-Ffordd Halt) was a station on the Tanat Valley Light Railway, located 1.3 miles south of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Powys, Wales in the hamlet Pedair-Ffordd. The station opened in 1904 and closed in 1951. There station was located on the east side of a level crossing.

Pistyll Rhaeadr (Welsh pronunciation: [pɪstɪɬ r̥aeadr], meaning "spring of the waterfall") is a waterfall 4 miles (6 kilometres) from the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in Powys, Wales, and 16 miles (26 kilometres) west of Oswestry.

Craig Rhiwarth is a mountain in the Berwyn range, in Powys (formerly Montgomeryshire), Wales, overlooking the village of Llangynog to the south. On the summit is an Iron Age hillfort, and there are remains of slate quarrying on the southern slopes.

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (Welsh pronunciation) is a village, community and an ecclesiastical parish in the extreme north of Powys, Wales; about 9 miles west of Oswestry and 12 miles south of Llangollen, on the B4580. It lies near the foothills of the Berwyn mountains on the river Rhaeadr. At the top end of the valley is the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, one of the Seven Wonders of Wales in the old rhyme. One mile north of the town is the hill Moel Hen-fache (515 m). The community includes the hamlet of Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr. It was an important site in the ancient commote (or cantref; sources disagree) of Mochnant, as indicated by the ym-Mochnant in its name (translates to "in Mochnant").Until 1974, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant was split into two civil parishes: the northern parish was in historic Denbighshire and the southern parish in historic Montgomeryshire; this reflected the division of the ancient commote in the 12th century. The divide continued between 1974 and 1996, with the former Denbighshire parish being placed in Clwyd and the former Montgomeryshire parish in Powys, each with their own community councils. In 1996, both parts of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant were united within the county of Powys, and the community councils were amalgamated in 2008.

Llangynog railway station was the western terminus station of the Tanat Valley Light Railway in Llangynog, Powys, Wales. The station opened in 1904, closed for passengers in 1951 and closed completely in 1952. It had a single platform and a run round loop with sidings serving a goods yard on the north side. The site is now occupied by a caravan park.

Llangynog (Welsh pronunciation; grid reference SJ053261) is a village and community at the confluence of the Afon Eirth and the Afon Tanat at the foot of the Berwyn range in north Powys (previously Montgomeryshire), Wales. It lies at the foot of the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass on the B4391 road, which runs between Llan Ffestiniog and Llanfyllin (though the B4391 road number 'disappears' between the western end of Llyn Celyn and Bala). It is surrounded by mountains including Craig Rhiwarth and is a popular base for walkers. Llangynog has a down-hill mountain bike course, and a crown green bowling club, who play in the Oswestry League.It was the western terminus of the Tanat Valley Light Railway (Llynclys - Llangynog) (15 miles); it opened on 5 January 1904 and closed (passenger traffic) in 1951. It is close to the pilgrimage shrine of Saint Melangell at the church of Pennant Melangell (grid reference SJ024265). The community of Pen-y-Bont-Fawr neighbours the community of Llangynog and has a population of 440 as of the 2011 UK Census. It falls under the Llanwddyn electoral ward for elections to Powys County Council.

Llanrhaeadr Football Club is a Welsh football club based in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Powys. They currently play in the Ardal NE. The home colours are blue shirts with blue shorts and socks.The club was promoted to the Cymru Alliance in 2010–11 season and although finishing in the relegation zone secured survival in the 2011–12 season due to Neath FC becoming bankrupt from the Welsh Premier. In season 2012–13 the club appointed Daniel Stevens as manager, who used to manage Ellesmere Rangers FC. A proven fluency was brought to Llanrhaeadr with a number of young players brought in alongside the new manager. 2013–14 saw the club relegated having finished bottom of the Cymru Alliance with 16 points. Marc Griffiths was appointed as Manager and the club returned to The Alliance for the 2018–19 season after winning the Mid-Wales league in 2017–18. The club was relegated from the Cymru North at the end of the 2021–22 season. In May 2022 Michael Barton was appointed manager.

The River Rhaeadr (Welsh: Afon Rhaeadr) is a river in Wales. It starts at the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall a few miles from the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, where the Afon Disgynfa falls over a 240-foot (73 m) cliff-face, after which the river is known as the Afon Rhaeadr. Downstream, the Afon Rhaeadr runs into the Afon Tanat.

Tomen yr Allt (or Domen yr Allt) was a Medieval motte and bailey defensive castle near Llanfyllin in Powys, Wales. "Tomen ar hallt" is modern Welsh for "mound on the wooded hillside."

Llanrhaiadr Mochnant railway station was a station near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Powys, Wales, on the Tanat Valley Light Railway. The station opened in 1904 and closed to passengers in 1951 and completely in 1964. The station was situated a mile south-east of the village and on the west side of a level crossing. It had two platforms and a passing loop as well as sidings to a goods yard and cattle dock.

The Plynlimon and Hafan Tramway was a 2 ft 3 in (686 mm) gauge narrow gauge railway in Cardiganshire (now Ceredigion) in Mid Wales. It ran from Llanfihangel station (later renamed Llandre station) on the Cambrian Line, through the village of Tal-y-bont and the valley of the Afon Leri, into the foothills of Plynlimon Fawr. It was built to serve the lead mines at Bwlch Glas and stone quarries around Hafan and opened in 1897, closing just two years later. The line was a little over 7 miles (11 km) long and, despite running a short-lived passenger service, it served no communities of more than 100 people.
