Forden railway station

Forden (Welsh: Ffordun) is a village near Welshpool in Powys, Wales, formerly in the historic county of Montgomeryshire. It forms part of the community (and community council) of Forden, Leighton and Trelystan with the neighbouring settlements of Trelystan, Leighton and Kingswood. Looking down on the parish is the Long Mountain, which stretches north eastwards from Forden through the border between Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, England.

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a church in Forden, Powys, Wales, located about half a mile to the west of the road from Welshpool to Montgomery. For some three hundred years the church was the burial-place of the family of Devereux, whose estate of Nantcribba is within the parish. The marble font, oval in shape, was presented in 1794 by Richard Edmunds, Esq. It was enlarged in 1830. The architect was Thomas Nicholson and the stained glass was designed by Edward Burne-Jones.

The River Camlad (or just Camlad) is a minor river in Powys and Shropshire. It forms part of the border between Wales and England in places, before flowing into the River Severn. It is notable for being the only river to cross from England into Wales and does so twice. The river originates in England, in the area between Snead and Lydham, flows west, forming part of the border between Wales and England, before flowing northwest into Wales. It passes through Church Stoke, where the River Caebitra flows into the Camlad. From Church Stoke it flows north, crossing the border back into England, and flows just east of Chirbury before turning west again, and forms the border (for the second time) between England and Wales. It turns northwest into Wales (for the second time) to join the River Severn to the west of Forden.

Hen Domen Welsh, meaning "old mound", is the site of a medieval timber motte-and-bailey castle in Powys, Wales. It is the site of the original Montgomery Castle, and was built by Roger de Montgomery in 1070. From 1105 the castle was the home of the de Boulers (Bowdler) family, and it is from Baldwin de Boulers that Montgomery gets its Welsh name, Trefaldwyn "The Town of Baldwin". When the castle was rebuilt in stone (1223–1234), it was decided to rebuild it on a rocky promontory a mile to the south-east – the location of the current town of Montgomery, Powys. The Hen Domen site has been extensively excavated.There are permanent exhibitions relating to both the medieval Hen Domen and Norman Montgomery Castles and their archaeological excavations (with scale models of both castles) in The Old Bell Museum in Montgomery.

Nantcribba is a township in the parish of Forden in the historic county of Montgomeryshire and now in Powys It is also the site of Nantcribba Castle which was built by the Corbett, Barons of Caus, of Caus Castle in Shropshire. To the south of the Castle site was Nantcribba Hall, which was owned by the Devereux family and the Marquises of Hereford. In the 19th century Nantcribba became part of the Leighton Hall estates.

Montgomery railway station served the town of Montgomery, Powys, Wales between 1861 and 1965.

Welshpool Airport (ICAO: EGCW) (Welsh: Maes Awyr y Trallwng; also known as Mid-Wales Airport) is located 2 NM (3.7 km; 2.3 mi) south of Welshpool, Powys, Wales. It has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P865) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Mid Wales Airport Limited). The aerodrome is licensed for night use. The airport is open to the public, with pleasure flights and flying lessons available. Welshpool airport is one of the bases used by the Wales Air Ambulance.

Montgomery (Welsh: Trefaldwyn; translates as the town of Baldwin) is a town and community in Powys, Wales. It is the traditional county town of the historic county of Montgomeryshire to which it gives its name, and it is within the Welsh Marches border area. The town centre lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the England–Wales border. Montgomery Castle was started in 1223 and its parish church in 1227. Other locations in the town include The Old Bell Museum, the Offa's Dyke Path, the Robber's Grave and the town wall. The large Iron Age hill fort of Ffridd Faldwyn is sited northwest of the town and west of the Castle. In the 2011 census, the community of Montgomery had a population of 1,295. The community includes Hen Domen.

The Battle of Montgomery took place during the First English Civil War of 1642–1646. On 17 September 1644, a Parliamentarian force commanded by Sir John Meldrum advanced to engage a Royalist army led by Lord Byron which was besieging Montgomery Castle in mid Wales. The battle was fought the next day. After the Royalists gained an initial advantage, the Parliamentarians counter-attacked and destroyed Byron's army. The Royalists retained a presence in North and Mid Wales after their defeat, but could not again gather a field army in the region until the end of the civil war.

Montgomery Castle (Welsh: Castell Trefaldwyn) is a stone-built castle looking over the town of Montgomery in Powys, Mid Wales. It is one of many Norman castles on the border between Wales and England. Its strategic importance in the Welsh Marches meant it was destroyed and rebuilt a number of times until the early 14th century, when the area was largely pacified. During the First English Civil War, it was the site of the largest battle in Wales on 17 September 1644; the walls were slighted after the Second English Civil War in 1649 to prevent the castle being used again.

The A490 is a road in the United Kingdom running from Churchstoke, Powys to Llanfyllin, also in Powys. The road runs for a short distance through Shropshire in England.

Brithdir is an area in the community of Berriew, Powys, Wales, which is 78 miles (126 km) from Cardiff and 151 miles (243 km) from London. It lies to the north-east of Berriew and is noted for its motte and bailey castle.
