Hamstead railway station

Hamstead is an area straddling the border of Birmingham and Sandwell, England, between Handsworth Wood and Great Barr, and adjacent to the Sandwell Valley area of West Bromwich. Hamstead Colliery was worked from the 19th century to the 1960s, with much housing built for the miners. Today the area is still referred to as Hamstead Village. The River Tame enters Hamstead after passing through Sandwell Valley, and runs through the village before exiting into Perry Hall Park. It is the largest tributary of the River Trent but is not navigable. After heavy rains it can overspill its banks, flooding the village. As of 2020, flood alleviation works are being undertaken at Sandwell Valley, to protect Hamstead. Two brick bridges over the Tame in Hamstead are Grade II listed. St Paul's Church, Hamstead was consecrated in 1892. Its grounds include Hamstead War Memorial, commemorating local men who died in World War I. Both church and memorial are Grade II listed. There is also a secondary School, Hamstead Hall Academy.

Hamstead Colliery in Hamstead (then Staffordshire, now West Midlands), England, produced coal between 1878 and 1965, by mining the South Staffordshire 'Thick' coal seam. It suffered a major fire in 1908 in which 26 men died.

Tower Hill is an area of Great Barr, Birmingham, England. It is situated on the western side of the main A34 road that links Birmingham with Walsall, and straddles the Tame Valley Canal. The canal passes through Tower Hill in a deep cutting in 200-million-year-old sandstone, and is crossed by Freeth Bridge (now restricted to pedestrians and bikes only). There are no locks on this section, which is at the Walsall Level. The area was chiefly developed between 1930 and 1960 for a mix of private and council housing. It has shops, a medical centre, a library (venue for the Barr and Aston Local History Society) and an ambulance station; the latter in a former branch of the Birmingham Municipal Bank. The only pub, The Towers, boasts a sign carved by William Bloye.

The Anchorage is a Grade II* listed building in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, England.It was built in 1899, to Arts and Crafts-style designs by Joseph Crouch and Edmund Butler, as a house for Alfred Constantine, a manufacturing jeweller. At the time, the area was in Staffordshire. The building is made of brick, with stone dressing and applied timber framing. The roof is tiled, with an off-centre cupola.A fire in around 1977 burnt the main hall's minstrels' gallery and a set of murals, The Hunt and Feast, by Fred Davis. Other interior fittings include metal work by a member of the Bromsgrove Guild, possibly Benjamin Creswick, and embroidery by Mary Newill, who also made stained glass for some of the windows.The building was granted protection from unauthorised alteration through Grade II* listed designation on 8 July 1982.One of its attached garages has been converted into a self contained dwelling under the direction of HDA Architecture. From 1983 to 2019 the building was occupied by the Jesus Fellowship Church as one of its Community Houses.

Hamstead Hall Academy is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in the Handsworth Wood area of Birmingham, in the West Midlands of England. The school is situated next to the Sandwell Valley RSPB reserve. Previously a foundation school administered by Birmingham City Council, Hamstead Hall converted to academy status in June 2013. However the school continues to coordinate with Birmingham City Council for admissions. Hamstead Hall Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs.

Perry Hall Park or Perry Hall Country Park, and previously Perry Hall Playing Fields, is a park in Perry Barr, Birmingham, England, at grid reference SP059918. It was in Staffordshire until 1928. The site is protected by Fields in Trust through a legal "Deed of Dedication" safeguarding the future of the space as public recreation land for future generations to enjoy.

King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy is a secondary school and sixth form located in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, England. The building that the school currently occupies used to be known as Handsworth Wood Boys' School but it went through a change over ten years ago. The headteacher is Mr Qamar Riaz. Originally known as Handsworth Wood Girls School, in November 2012 the school converted to academy status and was renamed Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy. In September 2018 the school joined the Foundation of the Schools of King Edward VI and was renamed King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy.

The Old Town Hall is a historic building on the corner of College Road and Slack Lane in Handsworth, West Midlands, a suburb of Birmingham in England. The building, part of which is currently used as the headquarters of the Handsworth Historical Society, is a Grade II listed building.

Great Barr is now a large and loosely defined area to the north-west of Birmingham, England. The area was historically in Staffordshire, and the parts now in Birmingham were once known as Perry Barr, which is still the name of an adjacent Birmingham district. Other areas known as Great Barr are in the Metropolitan Boroughs of Walsall and Sandwell. "Barr" means "hill", and the name refers to nearby Barr Beacon.
