La Covacha, was a high-end international restaurant, nightclub, and live concert venue in Miami, Florida, United States. Teresa and Aurelio Rodriguez opened the venue in 1989 as a cafeteria. A year later Aurelio created the nightclub and live music venue. Now permanently closed.

Dolphin Mall is an outlet shopping mall in Sweetwater, Miami-Dade County, Florida, west of the city of Miami. There are over 240 retail outlets and name-brand discounters as anchors. The mall opened in March 2001, the first of four Taubman Centers malls to open that year. (The others are: The Shops at Willow Bend north of Dallas, Texas, International Plaza and Bay Street in Tampa, and The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington in Palm Beach County.) The mall is built like the "Mills" outlet malls owned by Simon Property Group, which include South Florida's largest outlet mall and Dolphin's main competitor, Sawgrass Mills, and similar to Taubman's other outlet mall, Great Lakes Crossing. However, the mall is divided into three districts: Playa (Beach), Ramblas (Boulevards), and Moda (Fashion), and has nine zones. With 1,400,000 square feet (130,000 m2) of retail selling space, it is the second-largest mall in Miami-Dade County. Being near Florida International University, it is a popular hang-out place for students.A few years prior when the mall was first planned, Dolphin Mall was to have over 2,200,000 sq ft (200,000 m2), a roller coaster, a 28-screen Regal Cinemas, and over 300 shops. Once Taubman Centers owned property rights in 2000, the center was downsized to its current 1,400,000 sq ft (130,000 m2), no roller coaster, and a 19-screen Cobb Theaters in the second level in the "Ramblas" Zone.

Doral is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. One of 34 municipalities in the county, it is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Miami International Airport and 13 miles (21 km) west of Downtown Miami. Doral occupies 15 square miles (39 km2) bordered on the west by the Ronald Reagan Turnpike and the Florida Everglades, on the north by the town of Medley, on the east by the Palmetto Expressway and on the south by the Dolphin Expressway and the city of Sweetwater. The city is part of the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. As of the 2020 census, Doral had a population of 75,874, up from 45,704 in 2010. Doral has operated under the mayor-council-manager form of government since incorporation. The council, which is elected at large, is responsible for passing ordinances and resolutions, adopting the annual budget, and appointing the city manager, city clerk and city attorney. Fontainebleau (incorrectly spelled "Fountainebleau" in the 2000 census) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. The population was 59,870 during the 2020 census.

On March 15, 2018, a 175-foot-long (53 m) section of the FIU-Sweetwater UniversityCity Pedestrian Bridge collapsed while under construction. The collapse resulted in six deaths (one worker and five motorists), ten injuries (six serious and four minor), and eight vehicles being crushed underneath. Of the serious injuries, one employee was permanently disabled. At the time of the collapse, six lanes of road beneath the bridge were open to traffic. The pedestrian bridge was designed to connect the town of Sweetwater to the campus of Florida International University (FIU) in University Park, a suburb west of Miami, Florida, United States. The two were separated by a busy eight-lane highway, which the bridge was designed to span. The engineering design error that directly led to the collapse was identified by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as a miscalculation of resistance to sliding of the connection between the walkway surface, and the truss that held it up. The walkway surface was poured concrete, which was allowed to harden before the truss braces were poured above it. These truss members were connected to the deck by steel reinforcing rods embedded in the deck and in the concrete of the truss. In order to hold up the bridge these connections had to prevent the truss from sliding along the walkway surface. The resistance to sliding was miscalculated, and thus was not enough to prevent the connection from sliding causing cracks in the truss concrete. As the cracking enlarged, it ultimately caused the complete disconnection of one of the truss-to-walkway connections, leading to the collapse.
