The Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (ATHICA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) contemporary art gallery in Athens, Georgia, United States. Lizzie Zucker Saltz, ATHICA's founder and director, began the institute in 2001 with the help of FiveArt, Inc., a group of local developers and arts boosters. FiveArt, Inc. offered a 2,200-square-foot (200 m2) space in a warehouse jointly owned by the Chase Street Park Condominium Association. This space, which became ATHICA's home, was renovated in winter of 2001, and was leased to ATHICA for $1.00 a year for three years, and for a reduced rent thereafter. The space is located in the Chase Street Park warehouse district, an area just over a mile from Athens' downtown. ATHICA is run entirely by volunteers, with a board made up of local artists, arts professionals, graduate art history students and arts supporters, including students and faculty from the University of Georgia. Each year, ATHICA hosts three exhibitions of contemporary art, centering on politically and socially engaged themes. Exhibitions have covered a wide variety of issues, have included national and international artists, and are regularly reviewed by local publications. The organization also hosts affiliated events like music and dramatic performances, panel discussions, and film screenings, and offers gallery space for local and regional artists between curated shows.

Normaltown is a neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, by the Athens Regional Medical Center and named for the State Normal School formerly located there. It was the first area of Athens to be wired for electricity after the completion of the Mitchell Bridge hydroelectric plant in 1896.

The Carnegie Library Building is an historic building in Athens, Georgia. It was one of many such libraries donated by Andrew Carnegie which were named Carnegie Library after him. Funds were donated on March 5, 1905, and construction was completed in 1910 on the site of the State Normal School. On November 11, 1975, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It was used as the Navy Supply Corps Museum when the campus was the base of the Navy Supply Corps School.The University of Georgia has renovated the building, which now houses a part of the university libraries. It has been given the name, Carnegie Library Learning Center.

The College of Public Health (CPH) is a college within the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia, United States.

Piedmont Athens Regional (formerly known as Athens Regional Medical Center or ARMC) is a healthcare system located in Athens, Georgia, that consists of an acute care hospital with 350-plus beds, four urgent care centers, a network of physicians and specialists, and a home health agency. The healthcare system serves a 17-county area and is one of the largest healthcare systems in northeast Georgia. Athens Regional Medical Center was named Piedmont Athens Regional when it joined Piedmont Healthcare in late 2016.

The James A. Sledge House, at 749 Cobb St. in Athens, Georgia, was built around 1860. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.It is a one-and-a-half-story Gothic Revival cottage. Its most salient features are its steep roof and three tall triangular front-facing dormers. It has a one-story veranda across the front of the house. It is built of stuccoed brick walls about 18 inches (0.46 m) thick.It is also included in the Cobbham Historic District.

The Taylor-Grady House, also known as the Henry W. Grady House, is a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark at 634 Prince Avenue in Athens, Georgia, United States. Built in the 1840s, this Greek Revival house is notable as the only known surviving home of Henry W. Grady (1850–89), managing editor of the Atlanta Constitution and a leading force in the reintegration of the American South in the Reconstruction Era that followed the American Civil War. The house is operated by the Junior League of Athens, which offers tours and rentals for private events.

The Cobbham Historic District, in Athens, Georgia, is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It included 216 contributing buildings on 117 acres (0.47 km2).The district is roughly bounded by Prince Ave., Hill, Reese, and Pope Streets. It includes Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Late Victorian.It includes: Fire Station #2 James A. Sledge House, a Gothic Revival cottage which is separately listed on the National Register. The T. R. R. Cobb House built in 1842 is an historic octagon house originally located at 194 Prince Avenue in Athens, Georgia. On June 30, 1975, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.The original part of the home of Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb is a Greek Revival four-over-four "Plantation Plain" built about 1834. The house given in 1844 to Cobb and his new wife, Marion Lumpkin, as a gift from his father-in-law, Joseph Henry Lumpkin, the first Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. Cobb made additions to the house of new rooms, and by 1852, it had acquired its octagon shape and two-story portico. Cobb died in 1862, and his widow remained in the house until 1873 when she sold it. The house was maintained and the Cobb family was served by the two dozen enslaved people Cobb owned, who lived behind the main house.Until 1962, the house was used for a variety of purposes including rental property, a fraternity house, and a boarding house. In 1962, the Archdiocese of Atlanta bought the house to use as the rectory and offices for St. Joseph Catholic Church. In the 1980s, the parish was planning to demolish the house, and the Stone Mountain Memorial Association stepped forward in 1984, bought it, and relocated it to Stone Mountain Park in 1985.The restoration of the house never took place because of lack of funding, and the house sat for nearly twenty years. In 2004 the Watson-Brown Foundation bought the house and returned it to Athens in the spring of 2005. The Watson-Brown Foundation restored the house to its appearance of 1850; in 2008, the Georgia Trust gave their work its Preservation Award for excellence in restoration.The house was delisted from the National Register in 1985, but was re-listed on July 23, 2013.The house is now open as a house museum located at 175 Hill Street in Cobbham Historic District. The same foundation also operates other historic house museums in Georgia including Hickory Hill in Thomson and the May Patterson Goodrum House in Atlanta.

The Joseph Henry Lumpkin House was built in the 1830s, and purchased by its namesake, the first chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, in 1842.

Allen's was a hamburger joint and nightclub in Athens, Georgia. It was originally established in 1955 in the Normaltown neighborhood of Athens, but was later located at the corner of Hawthorne and Oglethorpe Avenues. It went out of business in November 2011.

Camak House, at 279 Meigs Street, Athens, Georgia, was built in about 1834 by James Camak and featured in Georgia's early railroad history. An example of Federal architecture, it has a number of features unusual for its period, including a kitchen within the raised basement, and closets. Both main floors have four rooms; the stairwell has a mahogany railing, and moldings and trim were made using a Greek key pattern. After long service as a family home, it was used as a Masonic Lodge before being bought by Coca-Cola Enterprises. In 1975 Camak House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but the building had by then fallen into disrepair. It was restored and used as the offices of a law firm. As of December 2011, it is for sale.
