The Ware–Lyndon House is a historic house located at 211 Hoyt Street in Athens, Georgia, at the end of Jackson Street. Built circa 1850, the house is two stories and exhibits an Italianate style. Edward R. Ware, its original owner, sold the property to Edward S. Lyndon in 1880. In 1939, the city of Athens purchased the home and a major restoration was made in 1960. In 1976, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only surviving structure from the Lickskillet neighborhood of Athens, one of the most fashionable districts of its time.

The President's House, also known as the Benjamin H. Hill House or the Grant-Hill-White-Bradshaw House, was erected in 1856 in Athens, Georgia. The mansion has served as University of Georgia president's residence since it was donated to the University System of Georgia in 1949. John Thomas Grant constructed the house in 1856. Benjamin Harvey Hill, who served in both the House of Representatives and United States Senate, acquired the house in 1876. Later, James White, founder of the First National Bank of Athens, purchased the property in July 1883. However, his daughter, W. F. Bradshaw, inherited the house upon White's death during the same year. The Bradley Foundation of Columbus, Georgia, acquired the property from Bradshaw's estate and in 1949 presented it to the University of Georgia as a home for its president. With the help of donations from the Bradley Foundation, the Georgia Board of Regents acquired the property in the early 1940s. The University of Georgia restored the house and grounds; Cooper, Bond, and Cooper were the architects in charge of remodelling, and Hubert B. Owens, A.S.L.A., designed the rear gardens. The front yard was refurbished in 1965. The house is one of the oldest buildings in Athens, Georgia. The University of Georgia President's House was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey and as of March 16, 1972 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Michael F. Adams was the first President to relocate his residence off campus. The facility served as an Alumni building and special programs location on the University of Georgia campus. The university announced plans to sell the residence in 2023.

The First African Methodist Episcopal Church (First AME Church), formerly known as Pierce’s Chapel, is an AME church established in 1866 by Rev. Henry McNeal Turner, and located at 521 North Hull Street in Athens, Georgia.It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since March 10, 1980.

The Joseph Henry Lumpkin House was built in the 1830s, and purchased by its namesake, the first chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, in 1842.

The Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (ATHICA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) contemporary art gallery in Athens, Georgia, United States. Lizzie Zucker Saltz, ATHICA's founder and director, began the institute in 2001 with the help of FiveArt, Inc., a group of local developers and arts boosters. FiveArt, Inc. offered a 2,200-square-foot (200 m2) space in a warehouse jointly owned by the Chase Street Park Condominium Association. This space, which became ATHICA's home, was renovated in winter of 2001, and was leased to ATHICA for $1.00 a year for three years, and for a reduced rent thereafter. The space is located in the Chase Street Park warehouse district, an area just over a mile from Athens' downtown. ATHICA is run entirely by volunteers, with a board made up of local artists, arts professionals, graduate art history students and arts supporters, including students and faculty from the University of Georgia. Each year, ATHICA hosts three exhibitions of contemporary art, centering on politically and socially engaged themes. Exhibitions have covered a wide variety of issues, have included national and international artists, and are regularly reviewed by local publications. The organization also hosts affiliated events like music and dramatic performances, panel discussions, and film screenings, and offers gallery space for local and regional artists between curated shows.

The double-barreled cannon is an American Civil War-era experimental weapon and is now a modern landmark located in Athens, Georgia. While originally built for warfare, the cannon never saw battle. It is part of the Downtown Athens Historic District, in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Clarke County Courthouse in Athens, Georgia is a historic courthouse serving Clarke County which was built in 1914. It is part of the Downtown Athens Historic District.

The Twilight Series is an annual road cycling race that takes place in the spring in Athens, Georgia, United States, since 1980. During the course of each Twilight weekend, competitive events in a variety of fields are staged, including BMX racing and trick contests, a Kids' Criterium, a mountain bike or 'Fat Tire' Criterium, and the climactic event of the weekend, the Twilight Criterium. The weekend event features amateur and professional races, with differing prizes for each. The Twilight Criterium itself is the most publicized and highly anticipated of each Twilight weekend. It is a professional race that takes place on a 1 km (.621 mile) course in downtown Athens. The entire race requires cyclists to endure 80 km (49.71 miles) within just a few hours. The main criterium features cash prizes totaling more than $US10,000.

Downtown Athens is the oldest of the main commercial and residential centers in Athens, Georgia, United States. Downtown is generally considered to be the area bounded by Dougherty Street on the north, Broad Street and the University of Georgia campus on the south, Pulaski Street on the west, and Foundry Street by the east. A Downtown Athens Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by Austin Kinsey in 1978. The commercial and governmental heart of the city has traditionally been toward the eastern end of Downtown Athens, between Lumpkin and Thomas Streets. Recent developments, particularly between Lumpkin and Pulaski Streets, have expanded the boundaries of the "central" part of the neighborhood. The term "Downtown Athens" can also mean this smaller, more commercial area, particularly when used in the context of the city's nightlife and restaurants. Some definitions of "Downtown" include the area west of Pulaski Street, which is a much more residential area characterized by historic homes, new infill construction, and some public housing. This part of Downtown Athens has the highest concentration of hotels particularly along Broad Street. The Prince Avenue commercial corridor is an important center of business, particularly for those living in the Boulevard and Normaltown neighborhoods. The area has several hotels and apartment buildings, and more high-rise condos are either under construction or planned for the area. Some of these high-rises as well as the construction of the new Multi-Modal Transportation Center have the potential to redefine the area encompassing downtown Athens to stretch east to the banks of the Oconee River.

The Classic Center is a convention center in Athens, Georgia, United States. It was opened in 1995. Located within is Akins Ford Arena at The Classic Center, a large event hall that also serves as a 2,000-seat arena. The arena is home to the UGA Ice Dawgs hockey team and formerly the Peach State Cats arena football team. The Classic Center also contains a 2,122-seat theatre.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. is an American craft brewery founded in April 2014 by David Stein, Adam Beauchamp, Derek Imes, and Chris Herron in Athens, Georgia. They have become popular for their core beer brands—most notably their Tropicália IPA—as well as a variety of seasonal and specialty releases.

The Morton Theatre, located in downtown Athens, Georgia, at 195 West Washington Street, is one of the first vaudeville theatres in the United States uniquely built, owned, and operated by an African-American businessman: Monroe Morton. In 2001, its location was termed Athens' "Hot Corner". The Theatre currently operates as a rental facility that hosts a wide range of dramatic, musical, and dance performances as well as special events.
