Roodt railway station (Luxembourgish: Gare Rued, French: Gare de Roodt, German: Bahnhof Roodt) is a railway station serving Roodt-sur-Syre, in the commune of Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg. It is operated by Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, the state-owned railway company. The station is situated on Line 30, which connects Luxembourg City to the east of the country and Trier.

Roodt-sur-Syre or Roodt-sur-Syr (Luxembourgish: Rued-Sir, German: Roodt/Syre) is a town in the commune of Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg, and about 15 km from Luxembourg City. As of 2017, the town has a population of 1,950 inhabitants.The town is the location of the Yemeni consulate in Luxembourg. Panelux, a large bread making company, has production facilities on the outskirts of the town.

Mensdorf (Luxembourgish: Menster) is a small town in the commune of Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, the town has a population of 765.

Olingen (Luxembourgish: Ouljen) is a small town in the commune of Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg. As of 2001, the town has a population of 380. The comune of Betzdorf is one of the richest in Luxembourg and has many expensive and stylish properties.

Flaxweiler (Luxembourgish: Fluessweiler) is a commune and small town in south-eastern Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Grevenmacher. As of 2001, the town of Flaxweiler, which lies in the north-west of the commune, has a population of 338. Other towns within the commune include Beyren, Gostingen, Niederdonven, and Oberdonven. The Mayor of Flaxweiler is the chief executive of the administration of the Luxembourgish commune of Flaxweiler. The incumbent mayor is Théo Weirich.

SES Astra SA was a corporate subsidiary of SES, based in Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg, that maintained and operated the Astra series of geostationary communication satellites between 2001 and 2011. Formed in 1985 as Société Européenne des Satellites (SES), it was Europe's first private satellite operator. In November 2001, upon the purchase of GE Americom from General Electric (renamed to SES Americom), SES Global was formed as the parent company to SES Americom and SES Astra. SES Astra was formed at that time as a subsidiary company to contain all of SES's existing European based satellite operations. In September 2011, SES Astra and sister subsidiary SES World Skies (formed from SES Americom and SES New Skies) were merged back into SES S.A. to streamline operations under a single management system. Subsidiaries of SES Astra, such as HD Plus and ASTRA Broadband Services became direct subsidiaries of SES. Rodenbourg (Luxembourgish: Roudemer, German: Rodenburg) is a village in the commune of Junglinster, in central Luxembourg. As of 2018, the village has a population of 159 inhabitants.Rodenbourg gave its name to a commune in the canton of Grevenmacher until 1 January 1979, when it was merged into the commune of Junglinster. The law merging Rodenbourg into Junglinster was passed on 23 December 1978.

Luxair Flight 9642 (LG9642/LGL9642) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Germany, to Luxembourg Findel Airport, Luxembourg, operated by Luxembourg national airline Luxair. On 6 November 2002, the aircraft operating the flight, a Fokker 50 registered as LX-LGB, lost control and crashed onto a field during an attempted landing at the airport. Out of 22 passengers and crew members on board, only two people survived. The crash is the deadliest aviation disaster to occur in Luxembourg.Luxembourg's Administration for Technical Investigations (AET) concluded that the crash was caused by pilot error. The crew decided to accept the approach clearance that had been given by the ATC even though they had not conducted enough preparation for the landing, leading the crew to conduct a series of improvised actions. Their actions led to the override of a certain safety features that would have prevented the propellers from entering the reverse angle, enabling the propellers to enter the reverse angle in flight and led to the lost control situation.: 61–62 The result of the investigation highlighted the possible safety risk regarding the protection system against an accidental deployment of reverse angle in turboprops during mid-flight, prompting Fokker to issue a mandatory modification on the safety feature.: 63–65

Other settlements within the commune include the commune's administrative centre, Berg, as well as Mensdorf, Olingen, and Roodt-sur-Syre.Betzdorf Castle is the headquarters of SES, the world's largest satellite operator in terms of revenue and one of the four largest components of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange's main LuxX Index.
