Culpho

Playford Hall is a country house in the civil parish of Playford, in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. Playford Hall is set in 30 acres, the gardens were designed in 1960 by Lady Penelope Aitken. Playford Hall is owned and occupied by the Melrose family and the grounds are sometimes opened to support charities. The house is a Grade II* listed building and the moated site is a scheduled monument.

Playford is a small village in Suffolk, England, on the outskirts of Ipswich. It has about 215 residents in 90 households. The name comes from the Old English plega meaning play, sport; used of a place for games, or a courtship or mating-place for animals, and the Old English ford meaning a place where a stream or river can be crossed. Villages nearby include Rushmere, Little Bealings, Great Bealings, Culpho and Grundisburgh. There are no pubs or shops in Playford, although it has a church (St Mary's) and a village hall.

Carlford is a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 25,461 acres (103.04 km2).Carford Hundred is of an irregular figure about ten miles (16 km) in length and from four to six miles (9.7 km) wide. It is bounded on the south by Colneis Hundred, on the east by Wilford Hundred and the River Deben, on the north by Loes Hundred and on the west by Bosmere and Claydon Hundred and the borough of Ipswich. It falls in the Deanery of Carlford, and in the Archdeaconry of Suffolk. The southern part of the hundred running from the bounds of Ipswich to Woodbridge and the River Deben has generally a light sandy soil, whereas in its northern parts a rich loam prevails. Listed as Carleford in the Domesday Book, the name has the structure "carla ford", meaning "ford of the churls (peasants)". It was one of seven Saxon hundreds grouped together as the Wicklaw Hundreds.Greenwich, Ipswich was listed as "Grenewic", which means a “green farmstead”, was listed as being in Carlford Hundred in the Doomsday book, but was subsequently integrated into Ipswich as part of St Clement's Parish.

Grundisburgh () is a village of 1,584 residents situated in the English county of Suffolk. It is in the East Suffolk district, six 6 miles (10 km) north-east from Ipswich and 4 miles (6 km) north-west of Woodbridge located on the B1079. Flowing through the village are the rivers Lark and Gull. The finding of Ipswich and Thetford-type pottery suggests that there was settlement in the Middle Saxon era. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Grundesbur", "Grundesburg", "Grundesburh" or "Grundesburc". Grundisburgh is pronounced "Gruns-bruh". The village has a primary school, a Church of England church and a Baptist chapel as well as one pub, The Dog. The Grundisburgh and District News is a newspaper which is published by volunteers every three months and provides news for Grundisburgh and the surrounding villages and hamlets. There are two fords in the village. The village is the setting for the novel A Wicked Deed by Susanna Gregory. Grundisburgh Primary School is a medium-sized school with 131 pupils at the time of the last Ofsted inspection. It is located in a modern building in Alice Driver Road which was built in 1989 after spending 115 years at the Old School next to St Mary's Church. The Old School building has now been converted into affordable housing, which was opened by John Gummer MP in July 1994.

Tuddenham St Martin or Tuddenham is a small village within the Suffolk countryside, lying just outside Ipswich, on the River Fynn. The village contains "The Fountain" restaurant as well as the church of St Martin in which lies the final resting place of artist Carl Giles and his wife Joan. The village has its own magazine called The Tuddenham Tattler. The social calendar includes "The Tuddenham TADPOLE's (Tuddenham Amateur Dramatic People Of Little Experience) Pantomime", the Village Féte, the Safari Supper and several Parish Picnics. It was a part of the old Hundreds of Suffolk of Carlford.

Little Bealings is a village in Suffolk, England. It has a population of approximately 470 people living in around 185 households. The population had fallen to 420 at the 2011 Census. Its nearest towns are Ipswich (5.1 miles (8.2 km) away) and Woodbridge (3.1 miles (5.0 km) away). Nearby villages include Great Bealings, Playford, Culpho, Martlesham and Grundisburgh. The village contains a school, a village hall and a meeting room called the Angela Cobbold Memorial Hall. Its pub, the Admiral's Head, closed on 20 July 2012.Until 1956 the village had an active railway station. This was closed as part of the 1950s rail closure programme, prior to the Beeching Axe. The station is now used as commercial office premises. The railway line running through the station remains active, as part of the Ipswich to Lowestoft line, and crosses the main street at an automatic level crossing. Little Bealings' church is All Saints, part of a shared benefice with Great Bealings, Playford and Culpho. The Grove, an old house and estate in the village, was the childhood home of Sidney Colvin, the curator, critic, and great friend of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Great Bealings is a small village in Suffolk, England. It has about 302 people living in it in around 113 households. Its nearest towns are Ipswich (6 miles (9.7 km) away) and Woodbridge (2.6 miles (4.2 km)). Nearby villages include Little Bealings, Playford, Culpho, Hasketon and Grundisburgh. The village does not have an obvious centre, and the population is split between two areas — one around Lower Street to the East of the village, and the other at Boot Street/Grundisburgh Road to the West of the village. St Mary's, the village church, is about in the middle of these two centres of population. The village shares a playing field with Little Bealings, which is located behind the joint Village Hall, and includes a grassed plateau, a fenced and hard surfaced multi-sports court, children's play equipment, and a boules piste. It is named after John Ganzoni, Lord Belstead, who lived in the village for many years, and whose Charitable Trust Fund supported the project. The River Lark passes through the middle of the village, and is crossed by the main road with a humpback bridge.

Rushmere St Andrew is a village, civil parish and electoral ward adjacent to part of the eastern edge of the borough of Ipswich in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. The parish includes most of Rushmere Heath and parts of the Ipswich suburb of Broke Hall as well as the village of Rushmere St. Andrew, from which it draws its name. The parish was formed in 1894 from the rural part of the parish of Rushmere.

Clopton is a village and civil parish in Suffolk. It is located between Ipswich and Debenham two kilometres north of Grundisburgh on the River Lark. The village is no larger than a series of houses either side of the B1078, surrounded by farm land. The village itself has no clear centre; houses and other buildings are concentrated around the four manors of Kingshall, Brendhall, Rousehall and Wascolies, all of which are mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.As of 2011, the population of the parish numbered 375 people. The village previously had a school, which was built in 1875 and had capacity for 100 pupils with an average attendance of 56, however it closed in the late 1930s. Pupils instead attend schools in Grundisburgh or Woodbridge, with a bus service provided by Suffolk County Council.

Bealings railway station was a station in Little Bealings, Suffolk, on the line between Ipswich and Lowestoft. It was 7 miles 20 chains (11.7 km) down the line from Ipswich. While the station closed on 17 September 1956, the line remains open and both the station building and platforms survive. It was opened by the Eastern Union Railway (EUR) on 1 June 1859 when the full East Suffolk Line opened between Great Yarmouth in Norfolk and Ipswich in Suffolk. The station buildings were designed by Frederick Barnes (architect), who also designed Woodbridge station. By the 1860s the railways in East Anglia were in financial trouble, and most (including the EUR) were leased to the Eastern Counties Railway; they wished to amalgamate formally, but could not obtain government agreement for this until 1862, when the Great Eastern Railway was formed by amalgamation. Thus in 1862 the operation of Bealings Station was taken over by the Great Eastern Railway who operated the station until 1923 when grouping saw the Great Eastern Railway taken over by the London and North Eastern Railway. The July 1922 Bradshaw's Guide showed seven up services (towards Ipswich) and seven down services calling at the station, with two services each way on Sundays. Most services were local trains which would originate or terminate at Ipswich and call at most stations on the East Suffolk Line. However, the station did enjoy a main line service direct to Liverpool Street. Bradshaw's stated that the 08:17 departure conveyed first and third class Pullman carriages (there was no second class at this time), arriving in Liverpool Street at 10:30. The return working was at 15:18, arriving back in Bealings at 17:22. From 1916 the station was the railhead for Martlesham Heath Airfield. In 1919 the goods yard was recorded as having three roads one of which served a small goods shed (the building on the left-hand side of the picture).After World War II the railways were nationalised and Bealings station became part of British Railways' Eastern Region. Lack of patronage saw the station close in September 1956 and the goods yard followed in April 1965. The signal box (opened in 1884 with 18 levers for signals and points) remained in use, however, as a block post to divide up the Westerfield-Woodbridge section and to operate the level crossing gates. The box lasted until 1984, when it was closed as a result of the introduction of RETB (Radio Electronic Token Block) signalling on the East Suffolk line; at the same time, the manual level crossing gates were replaced by the current automatic half-barriers. The station building is still extant today and is occupied by the Mallard Business Centre.

Sinks Valley is a 24.9-hectare (62-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Kesgrave, on the eastern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk, United Kingdom.This site has diverse semi-natural habitats, with alder and oak woodland, a brook with fringing swamp, wet and dry grassland, spring fed fen and heath. Areas grazed by rabbits have a short turf rich in lichens, mosses and herbs. The nationally uncommon mossy stonecrop grows on paths.The site is private property with no public access.
