Lučenec (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈlutʂeɲets] ; German: Lizenz; Hungarian: Losonc; Yiddish: לאשאנץ; Latin: Lutetia Hungarorum) is a town in the Banská Bystrica Region of south-central Slovakia. Historically, it was part, and in the 18th century the capital, of Nógrád County of the Kingdom of Hungary. In 1920, as a result of the Treaty of Trianon, it became a part of Czechoslovakia. The town has a large synagogue, built in 1924, which served a large Jewish population before World War II. The synagogue underwent renovations in 2016. Lučenec is the economic centre of the whole Novohrad region, which includes districts Poltár and Veľký Krtíš.

Lučenec District (okres Lučenec) is a district in the Banská Bystrica Region of south-central Slovakia. Until 1918, most of the district belong to the Novohrad county, with a small area around the villages of Šíd, Čamovce and Šurice in the east belonging to the Gemer a Malohont county. The district is situated in the Southern Slovak Basin, in the broad valley of the Ipeľ River. The two towns—Lučenec and Fiľakovo—comprise nearly 54% of the population of the district, the remainder living in the 55 surrounding villages. The district lies on the E571 route (Route 50 in Slovak numbering) from Bratislava to Košice, and on one of the train lines connecting the two cities. Train services also run to Budapest via Fiľakovo. There is a small aerodrome at Boľkovce. The main industries are food processing and building materials.

The Lučenec Synagogue is a former Neolog congregation and synagogue, located in Lučenec, in the Banská Bystrica region of Slovakia. Completed in 1925 in the Secession style and is registered as a National Cultural Monument, the building was used as a synagogue until World War II. It was reconstructed and reopened as a cultural center on 13 May 2016.

Cinobaňa (Hungarian: Szinóbánya)is a village and municipality in the Poltár District in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia. It belongs to the largest municipalities in Poltár District, together with Málinec.
