South Bermondsey railway station

South Bermondsey is a ward in the London Borough of Southwark created in 2010 out of Burgess Ward in southeast London, England. The area is served by South Bermondsey railway station, with a future station at Surrey Canal Road. Nearby neighborhoods include New Cross, Bermondsey, Deptford, Rotherhithe and Peckham. It is the current home of Millwall F.C.

Southwark Park was a railway station in Bermondsey, south-east London, on the Greenwich Line between Spa Road and Deptford. It was opened by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway on 1 October 1902, on approximately the same site as the then long-closed Commercial Dock railway station. It was close to the southern end of Southwark Park, from which it took its name. South Bermondsey railway station, on the South London Line, is nearby. The station was constructed on a section of extra wide arches running from 168 yards (154 m) west of Rotherhithe New Road to 680 yards (620 m) east of the road. Two loop lines ran through the station, which was controlled by the Corbetts Lane Signal Cabin (later renamed Southwark Park Station Signal Cabin). Passengers boarded trains from two island platforms, reached from ground level via ramped approaches. Each platform was 170 yards (160 m) long, with waiting rooms and a roof 220 feet (67 m) long. A booking hall and station offices stood at ground level.The station did not attract much traffic, as an electric tramway ran nearby and was more popular with travellers. Along with Spa Road and Deptford stations, Southwark Park station closed on 15 March 1915 due to wartime economies. It did not reopen due to competition from other public transport making it uneconomic to operate. The station continued to be used by railway staff until 21 September 1925. The bricked-up remains of the ticket hall are visible from the outside in Corbetts Lane. The abandoned interior of the ticket hall and foundations for the platforms were uncovered by Network Rail in March 2015 as part of Thameslink Programme upgrade. British Rail did consider reopening the station as part of Thameslink in the 1980s but never materialised.

The Spa Road Junction rail crash was an accident on the British railway system which occurred during the peak evening rush hour of 8 January 1999 at Spa Road Junction in Bermondsey, in South East London.

The London Bridge – Greenwich Railway Viaduct consists of a series of nineteen brick railway viaducts linked by road bridges between London Bridge railway station and Deptford Creek, which together make a single structure 3.45 miles (5.55 km) in length. The structure carries the former London and Greenwich Railway line and consists of 851 semi-circular arches and 27 skew arches or road bridges. It is the longest run of arches in Britain, It is also one of the oldest railway viaducts in the world, and the earliest example of an entirely elevated railway line. It was built between 1834 and 1836. The original viaduct had been widened for 1.95 miles (3.14 km) of its length between Corbett's Lane and London Bridge on the south side to accommodate the trains of the London and Croydon Railway and London and Brighton Railway, in 1842 and also for 2.65 miles (4.26 km) on the north side to accommodate the South Eastern Railway main line in 1850. It is a Grade II listed structure.

Commercial Dock was a railway station in Rotherhithe, south-east London, on the London and Greenwich Railway. It was situated on approximately the same site as the later Southwark Park railway station. Numerous sources disagree over when Commercial Dock station was opened, with July 1856, 1859, or 1867 being possibilities; it closed in 1867. No visible trace of the station remains.

On 25 April 2022, four people were stabbed to death in Bermondsey, London, United Kingdom.In the early hours of the morning of 25 April, neighbours heard screams from a three-bedroomed terraced house in Delaford Road, Bermondsey, in south London, England. Police attended at 1:40 am, discovering the bodies of three women and a man inside the house. They were a 64-year-old Jamaican woman, her 58-year-old partner, as well as her 45-year-old daughter, and 28-year-old granddaughter.Police arrested a 28-year-old man at the scene and said they are not looking for anyone else. On 28 April, the man, Joshua Jacques (born 19 April 1994), was charged with four counts of murder.

Surrey Canal is an area in inner south east London, situated 2 miles south of Tower Bridge, which was formerly home to a section of the Grand Surrey Canal. It is formed by the meeting point of three districts: Bermondsey, Deptford and New Cross.

The Den (previously The New Den) is a football stadium in New Cross, south-east London, and the home of Millwall Football Club. The Den is adjacent to the South London railway originating at London Bridge, and a quarter of a mile from the Old Den, which it replaced in 1993. Built on a previous site of housing, a church and the Senegal Fields playgrounds, the Den has an all-seated capacity of 20,146, although that is restricted to approximately 18,100 to allow for visiting fans' segregation and crowd safety measures. The highest match attendance in the 2018–19 season was 17,195. The Den is the sixth stadium that Millwall have occupied since their formation in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in 1885. Previous grounds include Glengall Road (1885–1886), Lord Nelson Ground (1886–1890), The Athletic Grounds (1890–1901), North Greenwich (1901–1910) and The Old Den (1910–1993).

DIY Space for London was a volunteer-run social centre, music venue, rehearsal space, and creative hub formerly located at 96-108 Ormside Street in South Bermondsey, London.

The New Cross to Finsbury Market Cable Tunnel is a 5.7-kilometre (3.5 mi) long, 2.85-metre (9 ft 4 in) diameter tunnel beneath London which carries power distribution cables for UK Power Networks as part of the London power distribution network. It was built between 2009 and 2017 by J. Murphy & Sons.The tunnel runs at a depth of 25 to 35 metres (82 to 115 ft), from New Cross substation in Lewisham to Finsbury Market substation in Hackney, close to the edge of the City of London. Along the route, it connects substations at Osborn Street in Whitechapel and Wellclose Square in Wapping, passing beneath the River Thames downstream of Tower Bridge.The tunnel carries cables operating at a voltage of 132 kV with a capacity of 400 MW - enough to power 130,000 homes.

Surrey Canal railway station (formerly New Bermondsey and Surrey Canal Road) is a proposed station on the South London Line of the London Overground network. It is on its main line (from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction which opened in December 2012).The site is on Surrey Canal Road where Bermondsey, New Cross and Deptford meet. The station will be adjacent to Millwall Football Club's ground and will mean more routes and trains for match-day crowds other than through South Bermondsey and Surrey Quays stations.

South East London Combined Heat and Power, better known as SELCHP, is a major energy from waste incineration plant in South Bermondsey, London. It was designed to generate both heat and electricity. The plant can generate up to 35 MegaWatts of power using a steam turbine in electricity only mode. It can incinerate up to 420,000 tonnes per year of municipal solid waste.
