SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce is a Mumbai-based college located in Sion. Established by the South Indian Education Society, the college schools students from class 11 and 12 right up to advanced degrees and has research facilities and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. SIES has been ranked as the 7th best institute in India & 3rd in Mumbai for its Mass Communication Courses by The India Today.In the recent times college is being building recognized by various bodies as it Won the 2014-15 IMC NATIONAL QUALITY AWARD (Education Category) and Higher Education Forum Awarded "Innovation Award" in Graduate Humanities category on 14 March 2015. Its being reaccredited with 'A' by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a CGPA score of 3.51 in third cycle of 2015.

Shiv Shikshan Sanstha's English Medium School, located in Sion, Mumbai, sister concern of D.S High School, Sion, Mumbai, which is India's one of the oldest school in Mumbai. The school was founded as a primary school, and became a Secondary school. A majority of students at the school have been Hindus. Shiv Shikshan Sanstha's English Medium School's, Students participate in the Boy Scout/Girl Guide movements. Sion (/ˈsaːjən/; IAST: Śīv [ʃiːʋ]) is a neighbourhood of Mumbai. In the 17th century the village formed the boundary between Mumbai and Salsette Island. The British named it marking the end of the city. The name remained even after Mumbai was joined to the Salsette and extended up to Mulund. One of the local historical places in Sion is a hilltop garden commonly known as Sion Fort or Sheevon Killa in the Marathi language.

Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital is a full-fledged Government medical college located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The college imparts the degree Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). It is recognised by the Medical Council of India. This is one of the oldest medical colleges in Mumbai. Lokmanya Tilak municipal medical college hospital is also locally known as Sion Hospital.

Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel & Shrine of St. Anthony former Our Lady of Good Counsel Church initially known by its name in Portuguese, Nossa Senhora de Bom Concelho, is one of the oldest churches in, Bombay built by the Portuguese Franciscans. It was built at Sion and was initially affiliated to the St. Michael's Church at Mahim in 1596. The artistically done stained glass windows of the Church portray the martyrdom of Blessed Thomas of Tolentino, Fr. James of Padua, Fr. Peter of Siena, a Cleric and Br. Demetrius of Tiflis at Thane, in April 1321.

Ayurved College Sion (also known as Sion Ayurved) is an ayurvedic educational institute run by Ayurvidya Prasarak Mandal, situated beside Sion railway station in Mumbai. The college was founded in 1954. Among the former students is Madhav Sane, founder of ayurvedic clinic chain Madhavbaug Clinics . Each year the college organizes an annual event called Sheevmanthan.

Dharavi is a locality in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, considered to be one of Asia's largest slums. Dharavi has an area of just over 2.1 square kilometres (0.81 sq mi; 520 acres) and a population of about 1,000,000. With a population density of over 277,136/km2 (717,780/sq mi), Dharavi is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The Dharavi slum was founded in 1884 during the British colonial era, and grew because the expulsion of factories and residents from the peninsular city centre by the colonial government and from the migration of rural Indians into urban Mumbai. For this reason, Dharavi is currently a highly diverse settlement religiously and ethnically.Dharavi has an active informal economy in which numerous household enterprises employ many of the slum residents—leather, textiles and pottery products are among the goods made inside Dharavi. The total annual turnover has been estimated at over US$1 billion.Dharavi has suffered from many epidemics and other disasters, including a widespread plague in 1896 which killed over half of the population of Bombay. Sanitation in the slums remains poor.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar (GTB Nagar), formerly known as Koliwada, is a neighbourhood in Sion, Mumbai, named after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Guru of Sikhism. Originally home to Mumbai's indigenous Koli community, it is also known as Koliwada. A colony was constructed for the rehabilitation of Sikh and Hindu refugees who came from North West Frontier Province of Pakistan after the Partition of IndiaToday, many of the buildings and tenements originally constructed for the refugees are in a dilapidated state, and are awaiting demolition and redevelopment.The local residents, however have been protesting the order for vacating the premises and their subsequent demolition, as they seek an alternative arrangement for renting and redevelopment.GTB Nagar, today, is renowned for its unique culture and cuisine, which has evolved over the years as an amalgamation of the influences of the indigenous Koli community and the Punjabi Hindu and Sikh migrants.

The Sion Hillock Fort is a fort in Mumbai (Bombay), India. It was built under the regime of the English East India Company, between 1669 and 1677, atop a conical hillock when Gerard Aungier was the Governor of Bombay. It was notified in 1925 as a Grade I Heritage structure. When it was built, the fort marked the boundary between British-held Parel island and the Portuguese held Salsette Island that lay to the north across the creek.The hillock is situated 500 metres from the Sion railway station. At the base of the hill is the Mumbai Circle office of the Archaeological Survey of India, and a garden – the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyan. Nearby forts include the Riwa Fort and Sewri Fort. The fort is dilapidated and a collection of broken stone steps, scattered walls and ruins, overrun by trees and ground cover. The fort wall has a small room on top. A series of pathways lead to it. The fort offers a panoramic view, overlooking the salt pans in the Thane Creek. However vandalism and apathy have taken their toll on the structure. Restoration of the fort had begun in 2009 but was stopped mid-way due to paucity of funds.
