The Bentinck Higher Secondary School is located on Jermiah Road, Vepery, Chennai, near the Vepery Police Station. Purasawalkam Gangadeeswarar Temple is a Shiva Temple situated in Purasawalkam neighbourhood of Chennai district in Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India. It is a five-tiered temple. The main deity of this temple is Gangadeeswarar and deity goddess is Pankajambal. Theppa Utsavam is usually held for 3 days on the occasion of Thai Poosa festival every year in the Pond (Theppakulam) in this very ancient temple. A canal has also been constructed to bring water to this temple pond. Rain water harvesting is done on the roads around the temple and to make rain water connections to store the rain water from them in the temple tank and to filter in them to store clean water. C.S.I Ewart Matriculation Higher Secondary School (Ewart, pronounced you-urt) is a private Christian school founded in 1913 in what is now Chennai, India. It gained matriculation status in 1945, and is managed by the Church of South India, Madras Diocese. Wesley Church is one of the oldest churches in Egmore area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The original structure was built in Gothic architecture in 1905 by Wesleyan Mission. It was constructed at Egmore considering the growing needs of it in the area around Egmore. The church is named after John Wesley, the founder of Methodist Movement in 140 countries. Wesley Church is a working church with hourly prayer and daily services and follows Protestant sect of Christianity. The church also celebrates Harvest festival every year during the month of November. In modern times, it is under the dominion of Diocese of Madras of the Church of South India. It is one of the most prominent landmarks of Egmore.

Vellala street, also known as Vellalar Street, is a residential street in Purasawalkam in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Vellalar is supposedly a caste name crediting to the early residents who belonged to this caste. Later these distinctions vanished and led way to more diverse residents. One of the leading figures of early literature in English R. K. Narayan and his youngest brother R. K. Laxman, an Indian cartoonist, illustrator, and humorist were living at Number 1, Vellala Street.

The Madras Veterinary College, the college affiliated with Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, is a veterinary college in Vepery, a suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The college was established on 1 October 1903 in a small building known as Doblin Hall.The college became affiliated with the University of Madras in 1936 and became the first college to offer the bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine in India. In 1989, the first veterinary university in India, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), was formed, and the college became affiliated with it.

Purusawalkam is a defunct legislative assembly constituency, that includes the locality, Purasawalkam of Chennai City and its surroundings. Purasawalkam assembly constituency was part of Chennai Central (Lok Sabha constituency). It was later divided between Egmore and newly created Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar assembly constituencies.

Kosapet (Tamil: குயப்பேட்டை) is a suburb of Chennai. The name is a corruption of Kuyavar Pettai ("Potter's Locality"), and originated due to the concentration of potters and artisans in this area. The area is Ward 98 (Zone 7) of Chennai Corporation. Kosapet is situated near Purasawalkam. Kuyavar Pettai is the original name. The locality is popular for many events and festival celebrations which is unique in every street. Kandasami temple which is one of the oldest temples in this area is famous for its festivals such as bramha utsav, kandasasti and other celebrations. There is a tank which belongs to the temple; it helps to keep the ground water level intact.
