Doveton (Tamil: டவுட்டன்), is a neighbourhood in Purasawalkam and Vepery, and is a shopping district in Central Chennai, a metropolitan city in Tamil Nadu, India. It is the unofficial name of the neighbourhood in Purasawalkam. The area of Doveton acquired its name after Capt. John Doveton, who served as a captain commandant of the Seventh Regiment of Infantry.Capt.John Doveton is the Founder of the Doveton Group of Schools situated at no 1,Ritherdon Road, Vepery . The name Doveton originated by the presence of the Doveton group of schools in the area. The Doveton clock tower is a prominent landmark and is located at the 5 road junction called Doveton Signal.

The Madras Veterinary College, the college affiliated with Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, is a veterinary college in Vepery, a suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The college was established on 1 October 1903 in a small building known as Doblin Hall.The college became affiliated with the University of Madras in 1936 and became the first college to offer the bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine in India. In 1989, the first veterinary university in India, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), was formed, and the college became affiliated with it.

Purasawalkam Gangadeeswarar Temple is a Shiva Temple situated in Purasawalkam neighbourhood of Chennai district in Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India. It is a five-tiered temple. The main deity of this temple is Gangadeeswarar and deity goddess is Pankajambal. This temple is maintained under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. This temple is considered to have the same glory as Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This is the shrine of the 108th Shiv Lingam consecrated by Bhagirathan, a descendant of Sagaran of the Raghu dynasty. The temple was built, renovated and repaired by Kulothunga Chola II.Gangadeeswarar temple is located at an altitude of about 53 m above the mean sea level with the geographical coordinates of 13.084645°N 80.254325°E / 13.084645; 80.254325. Theppa Utsavam is usually held for 3 days on the occasion of Thai Poosa festival every year in the Pond (Theppakulam) in this very ancient temple. A canal has also been constructed to bring water to this temple pond. Rain water harvesting is done on the roads around the temple and to make rain water connections to store the rain water from them in the temple tank and to filter in them to store clean water. Under the 'Singhara Chennai 2.0' project, an action has been taken by the Chennai Metro Water, Sewage and Sewerage Works department.Sathya Narayana Perumal, Brahma, Banalingam, Nandi, Dakshinamurthy, Oontreeswarar, Vaitheeswarar, Kurunthamalleeswarar, Kashi Vishwanath, Chandikeswarar, Somaskandar, Durga, Mahaganapathy, Uchchishta Ganapathy with consort Siddhi, Shanmugar, Subramaniar with consorts Valli and Deivana, Sun, Moon, Navagrahas, Thirunavukkarasar, Sambandar, Sundarar, Manikkavasakar, Nagar, Bhagirathan, Sekkillhar, Kulachirainayanar, 63 nayanmars and Bhairava are the other deities in this temple to bless the devotees.

St. Andrew's Church (Tamil: புனித அந்திரேயா கோவில்) in Egmore, Chennai, India was built to serve the Scottish community in Chennai. Building started 6 April 1818 and the church was consecrated in 1821. It is one of the oldest churches in Madras. Its design was modelled on St Martin-in-the-Fields and along with St. George's Church, Dublin, it is considered one of the finest stylistic "daughter" churches to the famous Trafalgar Square structure.

The Government College of Fine Arts (initially known as the Madras School of Art) in Chennai is the oldest art institution in India. The institution was established in 1850 by surgeon Alexander Hunter as a private art school. In 1852, after being taken over by the government, it was renamed as the Government School of Industrial Arts. In 1962, it was renamed as the Government School of Arts and Crafts and the Government College of Arts and Crafts, before finally being renamed as present.

Wesley Church is one of the oldest churches in Egmore area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The original structure was built in Gothic architecture in 1905 by Wesleyan Mission. It was constructed at Egmore considering the growing needs of it in the area around Egmore. The church is named after John Wesley, the founder of Methodist Movement in 140 countries. It is one of the most prominent landmarks of Egmore.
