The National Computer Center for Higher Education (CINES), based in Montpellier, is a public institution of French administrative character placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), and created by decree issued in 1999. CINES offers IT services used for public research in France. It is one of the major national centers for computing power supply for research in France. CINES has three missions: High performance computation on supercomputers; The permanent archiving of electronic documents; The hosting of national computer equipment.

The Montpellier Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics, and Microelectronics (Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Robotique et de Microélectronique de Montpellier, LIRMM) is a cross-faculty research entity of the University of Montpellier and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The spectrum of research activities covered by the LIRMM ranges from circuit design, to modeling of complex agent-based systems, algorithmic studies, bio-computing, human-computer interfaces, and robotics. The University Hospital of Montpellier, CHU de Montpellier, is the oldest medical faculty in Europe, part of the University of Montpellier. It has been rated the 6th best hospital in France. It employs about 11,000 people and is the biggest employer in the region. There are 14 medical activity departments and very substantial research activity.Emergency services at the hospital were reorganized in November 2022, largely as a result of pressures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in France.

Montpellier Business School is a French business school (grande école) located in Montpellier. Founded in 1897 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Montpellier, the Grande école is one of the oldest of the French Écoles Supérieures de Commerce. It was one of the three universities formed in 1970 from the original University of Montpellier. Its main campus neighbors the Montpellier 3 University's main campus, and for this reason the nearest tramway station is named "Universities of Sciences and Literature" rather than "University of Sciences". In January 2015, Montpellier 1 University and Montpellier 2 University merged into the Montpellier University (Université de Montpellier).

The Montpellier 1 University (Université Montpellier 1) is a French university, in the Academy of Montpellier. It is one of the three successor universities to the University of Montpellier following the split in 1970. In January 2015, Montpellier 2 University and Montpellier 1 University merged again to reform University of Montpellier.
