Ugley is a small village and civil parish in the non-metropolitan district of Uttlesford in Essex, England. It is about 2 miles (3 km) north from Stansted Mountfitchet, and situated between Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford. Within the parish is the village of Ugley Green, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the south. Ugley was first recorded in 1041 as "Uggele". It appears in the Domesday Book as "Ugghelea", in the ancient hundred of Claverling. The name probably means "woodland clearing of a man named Ugga."Within Ugley there are several buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Grade II* listed church, St Peter's, has a 13th-century nave and a Tudor brick tower. Orford House is a Grade II* listed building built by Edward Russell, 1st Earl of Orford, c.1700.The village's name has been noted on lists of unusual place names.

The village is within the civil parish of Ugley, a smaller settlement 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north. The village contains two Grade II listed 19th-century houses, and a post-medieval house.The village hall was built in 1920. Occupations in 1933 included four farmers, a carpenter, a stationer & sub-postmaster, a blacksmith, a gravel merchant, a beer retailer, a shopkeeper, a steward to Wades Hall, and the licensee of the White Hart public house. Wades Hall is the remaining wing of a larger house dating to the 16th century, Grade II listed, and approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest from the village.

Aubrey Buxton Nature Reserve is a 9.7-hectare (24-acre) nature reserve west of Elsenham in Essex. It was donated to the Essex Wildlife Trust by Aubrey Buxton and his wife in 1976.The site was previously a park for Norman House. It is woodland on a sandy and gravel soil, with meadows and six man-made ponds. Grassland plants include cowslips, wild strawberries and common spotted orchids. There are birds such as nuthatches and woodpeckers, and many species of butterfly. Black poplars, which are the county's rarest native tree, have been planted to replace trees lost to storm damage.There is access from a track off Alsa Street.

Quendon Wood is a 32.1-hectare (79-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Quendon in Essex.The site is ancient coppiced woodland with a rich variety of fauna on different types of soil. It is mainly pedunculate oak and hornbeam, with some areas having ash and maple, and others the rare birch and hazel. Plants in the understorey include bluebells, wild daffodils and herb-paris.Some parts are private with no public access, and there are extensive areas of tree felling.

It is a linear settlement on the B1383 (formerly the A11 trunk road) between Saffron Walden and Bishops Stortford. Quendon & Rickling stand 300 feet above sea level on a watershed between two rivers: the Cam to the east, flowing north through Cambridge to the Ouse flowing on to the Wash.

The trunk road status was lost due to the opening of the parallel M11 motorway. In 1931 the parish had a population of 156.

Its three-letter station code is SST. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Greater Anglia. The station, which was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1845, was originally known simply as Stansted. It was renamed to its current name in 1990 to avoid potential confusion with the forthcoming station at Stansted Airport, although a local resident, Joseph J. Green, had requested such a name change as early as 1890.The station building is the original from 1845. The station features a ticket office and passenger information screens as well as the 'flip clock' from the Network Southeast period on the London bound platform. Both platforms were extended to accommodate 12-coach trains in 2011.
