The Griffin House is a historic house at 200 High Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1871, it is one of the city's finer examples of Second Empire architecture, and was an early example of the trend to build further away from the city's port district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The station plays jazz and classic R&B in the afternoon, and uptempo and dance tracks in the evening.Dennis Ross, the founder, owner, and operator of WJZP, stated that Portland civil rights leader Gerald Talbot was his inspiration for founding a minority-owned radio station. In 2007, he spoke out at the Federal Communications Commission hearing on media ownership issues in Portland.

The Deering Street Historic District is a historic district in the Downtown and Parkside neighborhoods of Portland, Maine. Encompassing all of Deering Street and much of State Street, as well as adjacent portions of Congress and Mellen Streets, it is a cohesive collection of high quality architect-designed buildings from the second half of the 19th century, that were originally predominantly residential in nature. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Schlotterbeck and Foss Building is an historic factory building at 117 Preble Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1927, it is a particularly rare example of Art Deco architecture in Portland, the only one known by the noted Maine architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Deering Oaks Park is a 55-acre (22 ha) public park in Portland, Maine, which has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a playground, and a pond. It is located west of downtown Portland and is bordered by Deering Avenue on the west, Forest Avenue on the east, Park Avenue to the south and Interstate 295 to the north. State Street bisects the park. Access is from State Street, Deering Avenue, or Park Avenue. The Portland Farmers' Market is located on the Park Avenue side of the park. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Thomas Brackett Reed House is a historic brick duplex house at 30–32 Deering Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1876, the house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975 for its association with Thomas Brackett Reed (1839–1902), Speaker of the House of Representatives (1889–1891 and 1895–1899). Reed owned and occupied number 32 from 1888 until his death in 1902. He was notable for significantly increasing the power of the House Speaker, introducing a set of rules known as the Reed Rules that still govern debate in that body today.

The Battle of Brackett's Wood was fought on September 21, 1689 between the Native Americans, who had allied with the French, and English colonials, outside the town of Falmouth (present day Portland, Maine). It was part of King William's War. When 700 French-allied warriors were spotted at what is now Peaks Island the local settlers feared raiding would soon follow. Urgent pleas for assistance were carried to the colonial authorities in Boston, Massachusetts —Maine was in those times considered to be within the boundaries of Massachusetts. 160 men, including some native fighters allied with the Massachusetts Bay Colony (later renamed the Province of Massachusetts), were sent to protect the small 25 family settlement, commanded by Benjamin Church (he is considered the forebear of the modern day United States Army Rangers). Church learned from a "redeemed woman" that the French-Allied Indians were planning an attack on the settlement. She was being held as a captive aboard a small Dutch merchant ship along the coast of Maine. Today Brackett's wood is known as Deering Oaks. In those times it was part of a farm owned by the commander of the local garrison.

The Portland Farmers Market is a farmers market in Portland, Maine, U.S., which has been in continuous operation since 1768. Since 1990, the market has been held place year-round. From May to November, it is held on Wednesdays in Monument Square and on Saturdays in Deering Oaks Park. From December to April, the winter market is held on Saturdays in the former Catherine McAuley High School building.
