The Thomas Brackett Reed House is a historic brick duplex house at 30–32 Deering Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1876, the house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975 for its association with Thomas Brackett Reed (1839–1902), Speaker of the House of Representatives (1889–1891 and 1895–1899). Reed owned and occupied number 32 from 1888 until his death in 1902. He was notable for significantly increasing the power of the House Speaker, introducing a set of rules known as the Reed Rules that still govern debate in that body today.

The Deering Street Historic District is a historic district in the Downtown and Parkside neighborhoods of Portland, Maine. Encompassing all of Deering Street and much of State Street, as well as adjacent portions of Congress and Mellen Streets, it is a cohesive collection of high quality architect-designed buildings from the second half of the 19th century, that were originally predominantly residential in nature. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Portland Main Post Office is located at 125 Forest Avenue in the Parkside neighborhood of Portland, Maine. The building in which it is located, now shared with other businesses, was built in 1932 to a design by noted Maine architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens and enlarged in 1967. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 for its Colonial Revival architecture.

State Street is a downtown street in Portland, Maine, United States. Part of Maine State Route 77, it runs one-way for around 0.95 miles (1.53 km), from an intersection with Forest Avenue in the northwest to York Street in the southeast. It is one of the three main routes crossing the Portland peninsula in this direction, the other two being High Street and Franklin Street. Part of the street passes through the Deering Street Historic District. State Street and High Street were converted from two-way traffic in 1972.

Longfellow Square is a public square in Portland, Maine, United States. Named for the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, it is one of the three main squares on the city's Congress Street — the others being Congress Square and Monument Square, both located a short distance to the northeast. A monument to Wadsworth, erected in 1888, stands in the center of the square, with the seated subject looking east. The square is bounded by Congress Street to the north and State Street (which intersects Congress Street) to the west and south. Adjacent to the square is One Longfellow Square, a small performing-arts center.

WJZP-LP (107.9 FM) is a low-power broadcast radio station in Portland, Maine, United States. The station broadcasts a community-based jazz, classic soul and urban gospel format. The station has been on the air since 2005. The station plays jazz and classic R&B in the afternoon, and uptempo and dance tracks in the evening.Dennis Ross, the founder, owner, and operator of WJZP, stated that Portland civil rights leader Gerald Talbot was his inspiration for founding a minority-owned radio station. In 2007, he spoke out at the Federal Communications Commission hearing on media ownership issues in Portland.

One Longfellow Square is a non-profit performing arts and concert venue in Portland, Maine, United States. Located in Longfellow Square, the building is home to the Center for Cultural Exchange, which opened on March 5, 1999, in the renovated building. The building was abandoned in 1994 and purchased by Portland Performing Arts in 1998. After the group spent nearly $800,000 to renovate the space. The venue nearly permanently closed due to financial losses sustained due to safety restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Baxter Building is an historic building located at 619 Congress Street in downtown Portland, Maine. Completed in 1888, it served as the Portland Public Library from its founding until 1978, when the Library moved to another location on Congress Street. The building went unused from 1978 to 1983, when it was purchased by the Maine College of Art (MECA). MECA utilized the space for studio space, dark rooms, as a computer lab and library. In 2010, MECA sold the building to Northland Enterprises LLC, which then leased it to the VIA Group.The building was designed by local architect Francis H. Fassett. It was built in the Romanesque Revival style which was prominent during the mid-19th century. It was updated in 1928 by Portland architect John Calvin Stevens. In February 2010, the building was renovated based on designs from local firms Scott Simons Architects and Archetype Architects, which was partially funded through a $272,000 tax break from the City Council as well as through federal historical tax credits.

The Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Monument is a public monument in Portland, Maine's West End. Located on the corner of State and Congress Street, it honors poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who was born in Portland in 1807. The intersection built around the monument is known as Longfellow Square.

The Lafayette Hotel now Lafayette Apartments is an historic building in Portland, Maine, United States. Completed in 1903, the building was designed to be a luxury hotel and many of Maine's political and economic elites maintained year-round residences in the hotel. In the 1960s, the building was converted to an apartment building.It is located at 638 Congress Street, at the intersection of Park Avenue in the West End. It was built where Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, stayed during his visit to the city in 1825. It was designed by architects Francis H. Fassett and his son, Edward F. Fassett and opened in June 1903. It was considered to be fireproof upon opening. The original proprietor was James Cunningham. It was notable for its Mayfair Ballroom and French motifs. The hotel advertised its adherence to the American Plan, which indicated the company's unwillingness to recognize or negotiate with trade unions.As of 2023, Sagamore Hill Lounge occupies part of the first floor.

The State Theatre is a historic theater located at 609 Congress Street in downtown Portland, Maine, which features a combination of Moorish and Art Deco architecture. It reopened as a 1,870-seat performing arts venue in 2010.
