Barra da Tijuca (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈbaʁɐ dɐ tʃiˈʒukɐ]) (usually known as Barra) is an upper-class neighborhood or bairro in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located in the western portion of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Barra is well known for its beaches, its many lakes and rivers, and its lifestyle. This neighbourhood represents 4.7% of the city population and 13% of the total area of Rio de Janeiro. Barra da Tijuca is classified as one of the most developed places in Brazil, with one of the highest Human Development Indexes (HDI) in the country, as measured in the 2000 Brazil Census. Unlike the South Zone and Rio's Downtown, Barra da Tijuca, built only 30 years ago, follows the Modernist standards, with large boulevards creating the major transit axis. The area's masterplan was designed by Lúcio Costa, known for his work on Brasília, and creates a region filled with many gardens, shopping malls, apartment buildings and large mansions. In recent years, due to the rapid development of the Brazilian economy, Barra's population has increased by over 100,000, as a large number of residents and companies search for cheaper real estate as an alternative to the densely populated South Zone of Rio. Demographic data indicates that the region is the fastest growing neighborhood in Rio: 98,851 in 1991, 174,353 in 2000, and 300,823 in 2010. Barra natives and residents are known as Barristas, or more popularly, Barrenses. The neighborhood is a cultural, economic, and administrative hub of the city, and is believed to be the safest of Rio's upper-class neighbourhoods because of its lack of favelas and plentiful private and public security. It is the home of several celebrities and football players, such as the singer Anitta. In August 2016, Barra hosted most of the venues of the 2016 Summer Olympics, the first held in South America.

The Cidade das Artes (City of Arts) is a cultural complex located in Barra da Tijuca in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which was originally planned to open in 2004, with the name of Cidade da Música (City of Music). The formal inauguration was in January 2013, with the musical "Rock in Rio".The project's R$515 million (approx. US$250 million) to the city of Rio caused much controversy was originally budgeted at R$86 million. As the new home of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (Brazilian Symphony Orchestra) and a main center for music, the Cidade das Artes is the largest modern concert hall in South America, with 1,780 seats. The complex spans approximately 90 thousand square metres and also features a chamber music hall, three theatres, and 12 rehearsal rooms. The terrace offers panoramic views of the neighbourhood of Barra da Tijuca. The building was designed by the French architect Christian de Portzamparc and construction was funded by the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Terminal Alvorada is a bus station in Barra da Tijuca in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The terminal was renovated in 2013.

Barra Shopping is a Brazilian shopping center located in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. The center was opened in 1981.

Jacarepaguá–Roberto Marinho Airport (IATA: RRJ, ICAO: SBJR) is an airport in the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil dedicated to general aviation. Following extensive renovation in 2008 the airport was renamed after Roberto Pisani Marinho (1904–2003), a journalist and former president of Globo Network. It is a major helibase for offshore support. The airport is operated by Pax Aeroportos.

The Rio de Janeiro Olympic Golf Course (Portuguese: Campo Olímpico de Golfe) is a golf course built for the golf tournaments of the 2016 Summer Olympics, within the Marapendi Natural Reserve in the Barra da Tijuca zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The golf course was designed by Gil Hanse and the clubhouse chosen by competition, won by Pedro Évora and Pedro Rivera, from the Brazilian office Rua Arquitetos. Golf returned to the Olympics in 2016 after more than a century, last played in 1904, and featured two events, the men's and women's individual events. After the Summer Olympics ended, the golf course was opened to the public. The golf course has become a host to junior golf tournaments and introductory days to novice golfers.

Qualistage is a music venue, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue has a capacity of 8,450 spectators, but can have four different configurations. Located in Barra da Tijuca, it is one of the major show houses of Rio de Janeiro.

Terra Encantada was an amusement park in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It operated from 1998 to 2010. The park, which spanned over an area of 200 square kilometers, was dedicated to the celebration of Brazilian culture and its diverse origins, including indigenous, African, and European influences.

Monte Makaya was a steel, looping roller coaster manufactured by Intamin and located at Terra Encantada in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When it opened in 1998, Monte Makaya's eight inversions tied the world record previously set by Dragon Khan. It was located in the Terra Africana section near the rear of Terra Encantada in the northwest corner prior to the park's closure. Its location is now in the newly relocated Mirabilandia amusement park under construction in Paulista, Pernambuco, Brazil as of 2017.

The Marapendi Natural Reserve (Portuguese: Reserva de Marapendi) is a coastal nature preserve (environmental protection zone) of approximately 665.62 hectares, located in the Barra da Tijuca and Recreio neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, established for the preservation of native plants and animals such as the Paraná and jacarandas pines, restinga, mangroves and the Channel-billed toucan.The legal boundaries of the preserve extend over the Marapendi Natural Municipal Park (Portuguese: Parque Natural Municipal de Marapendi) and some developed areas with a small number of commercial tenants permitted within the inner sanctuary.

The Future Arena (Portuguese: Arena do Futuro) was a temporary sporting venue in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that was used for handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, volleyball at the 2016 Summer Olympics and goalball at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. After the games, the venue was planned to be dismantled and reassembled as four schools. As of August 2017, these plans have been abandoned by Rio's mayor Marcelo Crivella. Only in 2022 the demolition properly started.
